Town v Rotherham

One of the great things about this board is that for someone like me who can no longer get to games you folks give me a vivid, good natured and honest view of what's going on at the club and on the pitch - through thick and thin. Many thanks!

Decent enough performance last night and had we been able to hit the target rather than the side netting then Rotherham would've been buried under a Avalanche of goals by half time.

Special mention to Duanne Holmes who looks full of energy and movement, this system may well suit him. Joel Lynch my man of the match, cracking last ditch tackle in the first half and seemed to snuff out most things that came his direction.
Well do Big Ish, the lad has taken lots of abuse but he keeps going and took his goal well.

As a side note, if we're at the match can we not get onto the players backs. I don't rate Wells too much but I don't take the piss out of the poor lad like certain sections of our crowd do with Tommy Smith and Big Ish.

Banged on about it for far too long on here Wakey, think the ones that do it are on DATM or don't comment on here. They do my nut in, a bit of light hearted banter between your mates about them doesn't hurt but not full blast slating them at the top of your voice when they just make a small mistake. If Bet keeps failing to clear a ball, then gives it away and then gives a stupid free kick away (which he does a lot) then I'll bellow my lungs at him for being stupid, not for a misplaced pass.

Not far from us we have group of lads who just berate Tommy Smith...."forward" is the cry as soon as he touches the ball and then sarcastic remarks whatever he does with the ball. These lads just won't let it drop with him, the same with Miller constant piss take sniping when ever he gets near the ball.

Overall a good performance from Town on one of my rare home Tuesday nighter's. Thought we played at least to the level that we did at Brum, in fact a lot of comparisons with that game including the result. We started well without getting the early goal that we had the chances to take this time. We were a bit slow out of the gate again in the second half (Elsie the tea lady is still putting the tea urn with the mogadon in it in the wrong dressing room at half time). Holmes took his chance to impress the gaffer in his first start for him very well, in fact, Town could have played a lot more ball through him than they did in my opinion. Without being spectacular, Hogg was the perfect foil for Holmes, stopping a lot of Rotherham attacks at source and then letting the other players get on with it. Heard a couple of supporters leaving the ground saying they weren't very impressed with him. Hmmm, what game were they watching? Lynch was absolutely solid at the back and made great tackles and blocks in and around our box throughout the game.

We have a bit of a habit of passing it to death around their box when a shot/cross is needed. We need someone to get his head up in that situation. I thought Oggy and Seamus O'Rubbish criticism of Lolley for having a go himself late on when maybe Bunn was perhaps better placed was unfair as up to then when we got in a good position we would often run up a blind alley or turn round and pass it back to the half-way line. They didn't criticize that too much. Smith hit his marker with the ball when trying to cross it almost every time in the second half. Poor by Smith or good defending? A bit of both if I'm honest. We got the odd corner out of it but not many threatening balls into their box. Defensively he was sound though.

We are going to come unstuck against better teams trying to play it out from the back too often when everyone is still in our half. I know that is what Wagner wants us to do but every so often you have to push their defense back a bit to give us space to move the ball around.

Disappointing crowd given we are playing better football than we have in a long while and the £10 ticket offer, even though it is close to Christmas. Still, the fair-weather fans won't come out and watch until we are in the top half anyway regardless of the ticket price. Then they'll moan and boo the first time we lose and won't come again for the rest of the season. :fickletownfans:

'Lightning Feet' Miller and Mushy Carryout both took their goals well, more of the same on Saturday please!! Thumb up

On the 'old players coming back to haunt us front' I think Danny Ward fully justified our decision to let him go. After Bet Lynch brilliantly picked his pocket as he was about to pull the trigger in the first half, he rarely looked interested.

At the start of the second half, Rotherham were giving us loads of problems. We rectified this by keeping the ball. We passed it about, sometimes getting nowhere at all, but at least we stopped their momentum.
Of course though, the Town fans got on their backs for being too negative.  Rolleyes
