Good signing in the short term, do we think he's going to be a starter though?

My guess is he is going to be one of those they class as versatile, naturally a centre back, but it would be disappointing if he had been brought in just for that position, unless it is just for cover, you don't want to be building a team in front of a defensive line you know will be broken up in December.

Okay looks as though his deal has now gone through. AST is attracting interest and we have yet to see any serious offers for Fellows or one of our keepers. None should be a concern imo. I'm hoping Cleary steps up and we're well stocked with keepers.

I wish I could agree with you BlueBaggie but all I see is a club in such financial sh1t that any player is available for sale. Not only for sale but seemingly at rock bottom prices. I appreciate that BTA is not the most prolific striker and can be incredibly frustrating, but he was a raw League 2 player two seasons ago and, in my view, has come on leaps and bounds. For a young striker with real potential, less than £2 million seems a ridiculous fee, particularly when some of that will go to Salford.

With less than two weeks before the start of the season, our strike force comprises a crock, another guy who was injured for most of the season, and a guy even Cardiff don’t want. I admire your optimism over Reyes Cleary but I just don’t see it; two seasons ago he was going to be the next best thing but seems to have made no progress whatsoever, to the point where Corberan doesn’t seem to rate him.

Sorry if this sounds utterly miserable but I’m not seeing much to celebrate at the club

I’ve always wanted to give BTA the benefit of the doubt but his hold up play and general positioning just doesn’t seem to be improving. He’s scored a few standout goals but the regular in-front of goal strikers get the important touch type finishes are just not frequent enough for me. So whilst there is a tinge of sadness in seeing him go I am not losing all hope just yet.

I think the club will have to dip into market for a replacement so it does seem odd, not as unhappy as some it seems. I think Jed proved that CC's style doesn't NEED an out and out striker but it would greatly benefit from it. Hopefully Maja can get fit and have a run, Dike at this point is a wildcard and fingers crossed he's over the worst. Deserves to have a clean run of games with no setbacks. I also think Grant is an asset if you can get him to buy into it, being able to play off the left would probably take the strain off not getting Mikey J back in.

It would be great if our Academy lads got more game time and let's be honest here even with the squad last year they were not good enough to gain promotion. Change was needed and some enforced change is what we're getting.
Even our new owners are fully aware we need to bring our debt levels down and comply with FFP rules. I've said it before we have to sell £10m worth of players every year just to remain in business. We are where we are

Mixed reactions from me regarding the deals for Okay and BTA, if true...

I'd be gutted to see Okay go. I see him as the one player we have with genuine top level quality. Brilliant defensive awareness and cover, excellent on the ball, composed, a proper tackler. Also excellent in the air defensively too. He will be impossible to replace like-for-like and his move will probably mean a change in style, more legs and less control.

I can understand the move though, both from his point of view and the club's. He's given us 2 years at this level and done his best to get us promoted, but a lot of the squad are behind him in terms of ability and heart. He's 30 and has the chance to play at home, for one of the top clubs, competing in Europe. So no hard feelings. From the club's point of view, we're getting a fee for one of the high earners who is out of contract in a year, plus he's 30 and arguably doesn't have the legs that he had when he first joined. Would still love to see him stay and sign a new deal, but wouldn't begrudge him if the move goes through.

With BTA, I'm in the "I'd drive him to Hull myself" camp.

I said after he was sent off against Sunderland last year - which almost cost us our playoff place - that he should never wear the shirt again. That rant wasn't just a result of his pathetic decision that day though, I was just sick of watching him generally. I just don't see any quality there at all; couldn't trap a bag of cement, can't see or execute simple passes, doesn't do any link up play, doesn't occupy defenders, can't protect the ball and couldn't finish his dinner.

I'm gobsmacked anyone has come in for him to be honest. I think he'll struggle to get 5 goals in an average championship side.

To give him his due, he does run around and seems likable in social content, but for me that isn't enough. Obviously he will need to be replaced as he did chip in with some goals and stay fit, but I don't think it will be difficult. Any reasonable striker would've outscored him playing for us last season. A prem loan should cover it and we can use the fee to balance the books. Also fingers crossed Maja can stay fit, who looked far superior in his cameos last season. Touches, link up, finishing. We'll be far better with him in the side.
