WBA vs Huddersfield & Fulham
#21
After seeing that Bruce picked the same team that was dreadfully poor against Huddersfield, I feared the worst and actually backed Fulham just to ease the pain of the inevitable defeat.

But in actual fact, that was pretty much as good a performance as we can expect with the squad we have.

As was the story in earlier parts of the season, we were largely poor in front of goal. But we looked like a different side in terms of effort and running. Players playing on the front foot. You have to ask, where has that been in the last 3 or 4 months? Had we played with that effort, we'd be knocking on the door of the top 6 at least. We've been way short of that level for a long time.

Result was largely academic given our position in the league, but it was pleasing to see us play with some pride again.

I guess I'll have to start backing the opposition more often...

Well that was the best I have seen them play for a very long time.

As HRK said after the match. We need to get into winning ways that can take us positivity into next season whether that is in Premier League or Championship.

After so many times sat watching such poor performances, I was convinced this would be yet another where I'd get to bed in the early hours of the morning asking myself, 'Why do I bother?' What a relief it was watching the boys play some decent football with desire and commitment, which is all we ask for. It was such a novelty to feel entertained and not constantly looking at my watch, feeling cold and bored wondering 'how much longer is it before he blows the bloody whistle'! The fan's applause and standing ovation said it all. Let's hope that this is a turning point and that they start playing with confidence to play like we know that they can.
