I’m mixed on it if Big Dave gets the job.

I love the man and his whole demeanour is a breathe of fresh air compared to the previous guys we have had. He is also Albion through and through and actually cares deeply about the club.

However, I can’t help but feel that the club is making a mistake giving him the job permanently. Whilst his 6 match spell was good, it was only the Swansea game that had some resemblance to an attractive team because we played it on the floor, keeping possession and controlling the tempo. After that it was more old school defend deep, soak up pressure and look to counter quickly. That way of playing won’t work next season in the Championship when teams will put 11 men behind the ball against us. If he gets the job then I hope he can bring in a more polished version of the Swansea style of play.

I’m still hoping that this early news is a false dawn and that someone else is actually coming in at the 11th hour. If not then congratulations and good luck Big Dave.

I agree to some extent.....but if you look at the teams we were up against in those games, Josh, setting up to defend deep was the best option - and it paid off too!
AP tried to get us to play a tad more adventurously - and look what happened!
I think the players were too Pulisified to change short term so IMHO this was the right course to take ; hopefully Big Dave will be able to regenerate the existing players and any new ones will be recruited with a more attacking mindset so we are left with an Albion mentality that we recognise.

Drewks, I fully agreed with Big Dave’s approach in the matches after Swansea because it was the best way of playing in those matches. Not only could the players play that way but keeping it compact and defensive whilst playing quick on the counter-attack was the way to stop United, Liverpool and Spurs.

The problem that I was referring to is we cannot play that way next season because teams will be doing it to us. Next season we have to play higher up the pitch on the front foot and look to control matches like Fulham do. My worry is whether Big Dave can actually do that successfully.

We saw an element of it against Swansea so now he’s appointed permanently I hope he can with some good signings.

Swansea City are closing in on Ostersunds boss Graham Potter as they look to name a new manager.

Potter oversaw Ostersunds' 5-2 win over Ik Sirius on Wednesday and stated he would "absolutely" be in charge for their weekend game with BK Hacken.

The 43-year-old played down the links but it is understood that an agreement could be reached in the coming days.
