No Evatt, What's the Next Step?
#21
Yes we have just two to sell ....... if Jack wants money.

Alternatively we could just sign Louis Dennis from Bromley, he scores most weeks coming from behind a lone striker, and it might confuse our thicker opponents if they got two Dennises to menace them. Mr Dunford might find us the money for him down the back of an executive sofa.

Somebody on Bobs Board suggests that JL's appointment could have had the involvement of the new potential owners because negotiations have been ongoing for months. This may well have a ring of truth about it as I was told by somebody who works at Forrest that JL was approached by CFC. If it is true then maybe that's why JL came in the first place and stated all along that it might take some time to get things right? Am sure we will never find out for sure and am equally sure that whatever happens DA will be laughing all the way to the bank. With a bit of luck he will make an offer for Mansfield.

Have you seen it now, gone into meltdown because its rumoured the new buyers haven't paid the non refundable deposit. The doom and gloom merchants are having a field day.
AC really should have kept his mouth firmly shut and nobody would have been any the wiser about anything. As it is now we have JL on the CFC web site saying he is bringing in more players but nobody is saying who is going to fund it.

Jack - "I need to bring in 6 players if you want me to keep the club in the football league"
AC - "Yeah ok go ahead"
Jack - "How much budget can I have"
AC - "Well how much do you need"
Jack - "£.5mill minimum"
AC - "Just how far away is Dover and will we need to pre book hotels so we can get a decent price for later this year"

This is really going to get interesting.

Interesting is one word for it - demoralising could be another.

I'm still baffled that people ever thought it possible new owners would come in, take over and lump some money on the table for Jack to buy a new team between now and the end of the month.

All the same people who were in a panic that we might sell Dennis, now want rid of him because we keep scoring 0. And all those who were working out how many points it was to the play-offs are now convinced we're off to hell in a handcart.

Apparently Evatt has a hole somewhere and still wants to play. It's like Monty Python. Wiseman must be the least appropriate name of all time. Bringing on O'Grady to get us a goal must be about as likely to succeed as Craig giving Ann Widdicombe a 10 on Strictly. Bob's says JBW isn't a left back, but he played for England there, and has always played there ...... wherever Joe Rowley plays they want him elsewhere. ........ the loaned goalie is fine and the goal was his fault because he thought it was going wide ....... they want Dennis taken off for O'Grady who never scores, but they don't want us hitting the ball up to him ......... they don't want us to play one up front, but then we only score when we play that way ......... and only Dennis scores ..........

New owners both exist and don't exist, haven't paid the deposit anyway, but the voice of DA (Moondog) says DA will make money available to Jack for the window. We had 56% possession and hardly managed a shot. Who wants to see that and why? What's happening to football? What's the point of keeping the ball if you don't do something with it?

Port Vale signed Dior Angus from Redditch. Aspin knows about non-league ...... Afolayan scored two for Solihull yesterday. Dover have Pinnock, Brundle and Gallifuoco who would all pee into our team. Boreham Wood and Truro have both got a keeper. Kidderminster really do have at least a couple of players good enough ......... But how does Jack recruit, and where and is there anyway a hole in his bucket dear Lisa, dear Lisa?

If the club most in crisis goes down, it has to be us doesn't it? Mark Cooper and his son both getting sent off just pales into insignificance.

After the bit of a run we managed to string together I thought if Jack can do this with this bunch he can walk on water. 1 point out of 12 over the Christmas period has brought myself and everybody else down to earth with a bump (including Blue I bet).
I never did think Jack would get money to spend this window without major player movements but who the hell will want our rejects? Stockport or Darlington? Half the squad is injured so no takers there. 3 of our regulars are loanees (Eastwood, Reid, Kellet, but it wouldn't surprise me if we tried to get a fee for one of them) then we have 2 or 3 on loan bench warmers and a long term loanee - Flores - who I cant believe we are still having to pay the agreed loan fee for till the end of the season, who the hell negotiated that? Don't bother answering Matt.
The talk of investors certainly livened up the debate over Christmas but the timing seemed all wrong to me. Why do a deal that would never get through in time before the transfer window closes. Why not wait a month or 2 until we are beyond hope and on our way down then make a ridiculously low offer that might just get accepted? DA isn't in a particularly good negotiating position and I know if I was looking to buy the club I would start digging my heels in about now and make him sweat a bit before making a reduced offer. Carsons little outburst would make me sure I was doing the right thing and just sit tight for a bit.
The alternative to the above is DA realises what a balls up he's made of it all and the only way he will ever get his money back is to secure Football League status and invest in new players. You wont believe this but a pig just actually flew past my window and waved at me !!!!!!!!

I'm kinda with the pig. It would make more sense to me to invest a bit, try to save the club, at worst have it fit and ready to go in non-league and then sell at a reasonable price ....... but the way DA operates seems to involve the deliberate creation and then partial resolution of chaos. I'd hate to work for him.

When you look at what happened to GC in the window, his raw recruits didn't get near saving us and he didn't gain one longer term player for the following season. In the following summer he had very little to build on - no wonder it fell down when he hit the random select button.

When we went for Jack we chose a manager with an eye to the long-term, surely we need to go with that policy now. We need young-ish players capable of rising to our level at least and/or be proven in non-league, who would form the basis of a team at whichever level we are playing next season. If they're committed and raring to go for us we'd have a chance of getting out of this. (I'm worried fan pressure might bring us some ageing 6-games-a-season jerk with half a name who quite likes warming the bench in the Championship or Division One.) We need lads who want to win and will fight to improve their standard. If that means we need some experienced old head to keep them together fair enough too. Alan Hansen may be famous for saying you never win anything with kids, but you don't send old men to fight a war either.

A lot of talk on Bobs board is just pure speculation and I just think leave them to it .
Carson is either on a wind up or is just stupid, I cant make my mind up but all he does is fuel the frenzy. There are a few on there who know bits and bobs but the majority are like a sewing circle with all the gossip .All I know is that since Ashley became involved with the running of the club we have gone from the playoffs in League One to the foot of League Two in two and a half seasons .Even he cant be proud of that record .
Dev loves his kids and non league wonders but it sounds like Jack is looking for more experience judging by his interview the other day.
I personally don't care how old they are as long as they come in and do a job for us .A quality young player from a champ or Premier league club can be just as valuable as an old head barking orders out from the middle of the park .

But how or where do we get a quality young player from that level? With what? And why would he choose us?

We had to pay sky-high wages to tempt CO'G?

By young I mean 26 or under, with a future, not a past they've warmed a bench with for a few seasons.

Update on Football Manager:

I got sacked after 23 games in charge of Chesterfield after getting 26 pts and left them 20th in the league, also I got them to the 2nd round of the FA Cup. Took over at Macclesfield and tried to keep them up but got relegated and rebuilt the squad by signing some players that Devon has talked about in the past and doing well in National League North and should get back in the conference at first attempt.
