The Chairman dithered, and Ronnie said "OK. I'll pay them the £5,000 they're asking myself!" This persuaded Bert to dip into his pocket, and the rest was history.
I remember Cyrille's debut v Rotherham in the League Cup:  Cyrille had a blinder and scored twice, which had the BRE singing "Astle is Back".
I thought this is fine, but where are we going to play Dave Cross, who we'd just bought and was playing really well himself. What a luxury!

I'd heard that story as well, Talksaft. I also remember the next game (I think) which was Middlesbrough at home when he scored a breathtaking goal with a run from just inside their half. A star was born! I have to say I felt really sorry for David Cross who was a really good number 9 but once Cyrille arrived, that was it for Dave.
