Whites V Blacks 1979 Tonight 9PM !!! - Beefy 1965 - 27-11-2016

Anybody remember this ?
I seem to remember it vaguely was 14 at the time.
This was Len Cantello's Testimonial bizarrely during the season,
A season we could have won the league but this game took on a strange twist.
nothing much was made before or during the game, but afterwards the tabloids got there teeth stuck into it.

Then we duly lost our next game and runners up spot also slipped away,

Worth a watch guys ?

Hosted by Adrian Chiles .............

Great documentary, would advise anyone who missed it to give it a watch on iPlayer. The segment on Vernon Hodgson was particularly fascinating.

Brilliant. Loved the bit where George Berry got in the crowd and lamped the twat abusing him.

Can I just say as well, as a non Baggie, I loved Cyrille Regis. Always made Match of the Day worth watching. Probably my favourite footballer who never played for Huddersfield.

I'm just glad to say I actually watched Laurie Cunningham live ..........
The best player I ever saw grace the Hawthorns and I doubt I will ever see better Cry

Beefy, I couldn't agree more, Laurie Cunningham in today's game would be right up there with Ronaldo, Bale and Messi, believe me that is no exaggeration.

Absolutely.....he had a real graceful (sounds an odd word to describe a footballer but it's true) style, and that, with a massive burst of speed and great ball skills, made him the best I've ever seen live and MY favourite player of all time.
So lucky to have seen him at our club Thumb up

We only had Laurie for two years but in that short period there was more brilliance and skill than you'll see in players who spend ten years at the club. He was just amazing.

For all that, though, I still think Cyrille was the best Albion player I've ever seen, I just think he had everything- power, skill, grace, tremendous heading and shooting ability; for a big man, his talent was remarkable. In the many dark years we had after that golden period, it was the memory of the great man that kept me going! An absolute hero.

The story goes that Ronnie Allen (as Manager) asked his Chairman (Millichip) if we could go ahead and buy Cyrille from Hayes. The Chairman dithered, and Ronnie said "OK. I'll pay them the £5,000 they're asking myself!" This persuaded Bert to dip into his pocket, and the rest was history.
I remember Cyrille's debut v Rotherham in the League Cup: Cyrille had a blinder and scored twice, which had the BRE singing "Astle is Back".
I thought this is fine, but where are we going to play Dave Cross, who we'd just bought and was playing really well himself. What a luxury!
