We'll never know though, as he decided to neglect the chance to find out - to the detriment of his career too, it seems.
The loss of so many promising young players in recent years has been nigh on criminal.
Telfer and MacLeod this season especially.

The finger stops at McCoist for telfer. We obviously had to sell Macleod sadly, still doesn't excuse it though.

It's been bey9nd annoying that we have seen some youngsters that we let go hang them away prolifically while we sign yesterday's men only for them to strulugglr for goals.
Hearts have proved, and Hibs to an extent, that the championship is a young man's league.

Although it was more through necessity than choice we did actually use a lot of young players in 2012/13. We didn't have to rely on them to take us up but a few really played their part and got good experience on the pitch. Then last season was an absolute disaster for them as Ally brought in more players and refused to play the talented young guys despite wrapping up the title ages before the league finished. If he'd just kept his promise to do that I'm sure he'd have had more support from the fans and more faith from the young players, and it would have cost him nothing.
