Ah, I was thinking of the wrong year! Walsall was 1965.

Yes correct Ska'd Walsall 3-1, then Leeds Untd, Coventry 6-1 in a replay and Villa 3-1 in the quarter Finals.

And to answer my own question we beat Villa again 6-1 at the start of the 1966/67 campaign.

In fact, in the league cup, we were drawn against and beat the Villa three times over a four year period between 1965 and 1969.

Those were the days eh! Smartass

And for all you youngsters out there, Northampton Town really were in the old  division 1 but were soon relegated.

I remember Cobblers' season in the old 1st Divn really well, Silver.....
The away game was played on Friday night early season because, I think, Northants CCC were playing on the Saturday on the same ground. If we won we'd go Top of the League, so I bunked the afternoon off school (I can still remember stuffing my face at Lunchtime, fingers-down-throat, and being sick so I could get off in the afternoon!)
We won 4-3 and went Top (one of - I think - 3 times in my life as a fan).
