50 Years Ago Today - talkSAFT - 23-03-2016 .....we beat West Ham in the 2nd Leg of the League Cup Final. (1st Leg: 1-2 at Upton Park, then 2nd Leg 4-1 at The Hawthorns). I always quote the 2nd Leg as my favourite all-time Albion performance that I've witnessed. It was also the best atmosphere I can remember - I felt a bit of a heel for not waving a flag or a banner - there must have been 100 flags waved that night as we stormed off 3-0 at half-time (or was it 4?) The team that day was: Potter Cram, Campbell, Fairfax Fraser, Hope, Williams Brown, Kaye, Astle, Clark (no subs, of course) Fantastic memories! RE: 50 Years Ago Today - Beefy 1965 - 23-03-2016 51 Years ago on the 25th of March which is this good Friday, A new Saviour was born ![]() Moi ![]() Hope i don't get crucified for this ![]() RE: 50 Years Ago Today - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 23-03-2016 (He says Feb 23rd in the video, but that's an error - it was March). If anyone wants to know exactly what the Brummie Road End looked like that night... ![]() RE: 50 Years Ago Today - talkSAFT - 24-03-2016 (23-03-2016, 21:09)Beefy 1965 Wrote: 51 Years ago on the 25th of March which is this good Friday, You're younger than you look, Beef. ![]() RE: 50 Years Ago Today - Beefy 1965 - 24-03-2016 Cheers mucker ![]() RE: 50 Years Ago Today - silverbaggie - 24-03-2016 Also Ska'd the commentator mentions a goal scored by Colin Clark!!! Get yer facts right fella..........his name was Clive ![]() RE: 50 Years Ago Today - talkSAFT - 24-03-2016 Silver, you might be old enough to remember ![]() Was Graham Lovett injured? How about Stan Jones, as well? Danny Campbell made a rare appearance (I'd never have remembered that), and Gray Williams must have covered for Lovett im m/f, with Fairfax filling in at leftback. Both players were usually regulars that season for league matches. Lovatt and Danny Campbell had both played in the first leg at Upton Park but, again Jones was missing that night too. And for all you youngsters out there, Northampton Town really were in the old division 1 but were soon relegated. Here's an enjoyable quiz question for you all:- We started our defence of the league cup with a bye in the first round but, who did we hammer 6-1 in the next round on the 14 September 1966?? RE: 50 Years Ago Today - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 24-03-2016 Walsall. RE: 50 Years Ago Today - silverbaggie - 24-03-2016 (24-03-2016, 19:42)Ska Wrote: Walsall. No but a team that may soon be playing them in local derbies!! ![]() |
