The first part of the missing link was provided yesterday as Chris Powell managed to field 3 substitutes with about 20 minutes left to play. I think Powell is a decent manger, who manages to comprehensively transmit his own ambition and desire to his team. Unfortunately his own ambition and desire is extremely limited.
Speaking from personal experience, I can guarantee that if Town manage to unearth a 20 goals a season striker, he will be sold. Another 10-12 goals a season striker would be better.

If memory serves me correct, when Lillis took caretaker role for us post Robbins, we lost three out of five. Though I seem to recall us at least having a go at the opposition. One of those losses being 4 - 2 at Watford which I attended and can remember us giving it a real go. Shocking defensively, but hey ho. Just saying, I wouldn't expect a major change in points attainment if this situation was to arise again. Maybe a bit more entertainment, though I don't attend enough live games to make too much comment on that really!

I'm not going to lie, but I wasn't exactly thrilled when we appointed Powell. I was never that impressed with his Charlton sides but they were relatively effective, if very dull. When he was appointed I was expecting the same but he appears to have only delivered the dull side of things!
He isn't a great manager and he hasn't been able to get the best out of what he's got. That was his 'brief' when he was appointed and he was happy with that. More fool him working under our current board constraints but this will be the same for any manager appointed by this board. This board cannot make it work in this 'big boy' league and need to rapidly change their outlook.
Balancing the books is all well and good if you want to run a nice little club in league 2. You cant do this in the Championship and maybe Hoyle was naïve to think he could? Maybe he really didn't run the numbers prior to doing all within his power to get us out of league 1? Where is that drive to succeed now?
The problem is, Hoyle wont walk away and I doubt there is a long list of investors waiting to take us on. Where is the potential? Hoyle has us where he wants us and he is busily recouping his investment before getting out. He must have recouped well over 50% of his investment with player sales etc, so he hasn't done half bad really. What bugs me though is that why does he just not go for it and back us to the hilt? He has the financial clout to take us to the promised land, yet would rather see us struggle in order to seemingly have a nice balance sheet!
The fans have no say and until another rich benefactor comes along, then its hello healthy balance sheet and bye bye Championship!!!

Aye but we'd have no say whatsoever if some foreign millionaire came in. At least with Deano, he tells it like a Yorkshireman.

since Hoyle took over the team has made a loss, and that loss had been covered by Hoyle personally. we have also made FFP requirements since there inception, i know FFP is looking like a paper tiger but i guarantee you the moment a small club like us break the rules the the FA will throw the book at us
is everything at the club rosy at the moment, no it isnt, has Hoyle made mistakes, yes hes human not perfect but i believe he always has the best interests of the club at heart and has always said he is planning on long term sustainability not boom and bust, we tried that under Ruberry and almost didnt have a club at the end of it, i never want to go back to those days again
yes Progress has been slow, we didnt dance on through to the premier league like some delusional fans expected us to do and this has been a very rough start to the season but its early days yet
fact is we are a small fish in a big pond right now, our best players will always be wanted by bigger club who can pay twice the wages and ultimately is a player wants to leave they will find a way, Butterfield wanted to leave, he admitted to the Derby press that Derby's attention had affected him, if thats true then would we get the best out of him?

Rhodes left when someone met the asking price, Derby were just met it quicker for butterfield than anyone did for Rhodes
Powell included.
