Match Thread - Wigan Athletic
At last, a goal & a win!

Not sure if we have turned the corner or whether we just took advantage of a bottom three side that has picked up just two points out of the last 15.

I have always believed that May will score goals and thankfully two of our best chances fell his way and he finished perfectly on both occasions. The first goal he benefited from some appauling defending, just a minute after Wigan had taken the lead, when Nuhui flicked it through to him.

Wigan had taken the lead when slack marking gave a free header from six yards.

Semedo had earlier hit the post with a 20 yard shot.

After that, it was a pretty open game with more opportunities for Wigan before May headed Maguire's cross against both posts after good work by Helan, just to prove that last week's effort wasn't a fluke.

Palmer headed off the line as Wigan went for the equaliser.

Westwood - 6
Palmer - 6
Lees - 7
Loovens - 6
Helan - 6
Maguire - 6
McGugan - 7
Semedo - 6
Drenthe - 7
Nuhui - 6
May - 8

May was the match winner but it was a solid all round team performance. Helan added a lot going forward but was given a tough time defensively. Palmer was also given a tough time as well. McGugan gives us an extra dimension in CM and Drenthe puts defences on the back foot with his pace. We just need someone else to chip in with a goal or two to take the pressure of May.

An interesting set of results with all the teams just above us failing to win & the teams just behind us winning which has made the middle of the table even close. Perhaps more significantly, the bottom six got just two points between them yesterday as we put more distance between ourselves & the relegation zone.

I would knock Palmer, Nuhiu, Maguire to 7 and Helan to 8. Thought Palmer did really well to clear the ball off the line at the end, Maguire wasn't greedy and looked as though being dropped helped him out, Semedo closed the ball down well but miss placed a few passes (there was one instance where he lost the ball but chased down the midfielder who passed to CB, chased CB who passed to GK who kicked it into North stand near kop Laugh)

Helan was dangerous all through the game and him and Drentthe down the left could work brilliantly. He does get drawn out of position occasionally but usually has the pace to get back and recover

I have been rating Helan for some time but he certainly was on the negative side defensively. Palmer also allowed quite a few crosses in. I don't give positive points for not being greedy. I take points off for being greedy. Nuhui was part of the way to a 7 but in my book, didn't quite get there.

Lee will get his chance next week with Semedo suspended. He needs to step up because he has been poor this season.

Lavery is way off the standard for this division atm. He is more of an understudy for May. He will undoubtedly be better than Nuhui in time but at the moment he is a long way behind. SG needs to give him game time so that he can progress but not by sticking him out on the wing. That will just ruin him.

He did that last season with Afobe & it restricted him. He has 18 goals for MK Dons so far this season with another three yesterday. He could have got those goals for us if SG had used him as a striker.

I would happily take 18 goals from a shit striker!!!

I'm with Madsteve regarding Lavery, he burst onto the scene with two goals against a 10 man and very poor L**ds side, but didn't do a ton after that!!  He could just be what we need but I thing he is still a season away from that.  But as said above, he needs game time or we will never know, bit like the striker we have at Coventry!! Doh

What a crazy situation at Bellend Road!! The FL should not have allowed him to take them over in the first place but they look as silly as L**ds do through this whole situation!!

Hilarious stuff, Mussolini will have given it all the jibber to the FL about having cash and being an ethical businessman, when he's really just another Alan Sugar.

It doesn't make much difference when he's only receiving a 4 month ban Doh He'll just have a proxy, likely his best mate, run it for now.

Will it put them in a transfer embargo? Surely he's expelled so he won't be able to pump cash in
