We're in crisis, he has a proven track record with perm teams in trouble, or, on a budget. Sherwood frightens me, had 6 months at a club with far better players and financial clout, yes he got the best out of them. But this is WBA and a relegation dogfight and I simply cannot see a candidate stronger than TP for this occasion. He's playing hard ball with JP as I suspected he would but if he's to get us out the mire he needs total control and not be another yes man for the chairman. This may be the sticking point and we could end up with a another surprise that sees us relegated. I don't want to see us back in the championship just look at the following clubs fulham portsmouth blackpool birmingham wigan right now. Does anyone really want that scenario? Can anyone see a better manager for this task who's available right now because I can't? Time will tell and I'm watching the news constantly to see the outcome with trepidation One thought for now. The FA in my opinion stuck the final knife into us when they pinched Hodgson and Ashworth there was a glimmer of hope back then and ultimately England will still fail no matter who gets handed the poison chalice that is England Manager/HC Spot on. Looks like he is going to be appointed so that is great, maybe in a couple of seasons time when we are defensively stable and winning games we can look to a more expansive manager who can take us the the Swansea/Southampton level, but for now survival is priority. As a side note, we are a bigger club with a bigger fanbase and more stable finances than the relegated clubs you mentioned. We'd be midtable at worst in the Championship. RE: Alan Irvine Sacked (please post all reaction in this thread) - Tom_Wba - 31-12-2014 Happy enough with the appointment like i've mentioned before though the full control of transfers is what worries me hopefully he's not to stubborn and will work with the scouting team (which also needs shaking up). I'm also not to worried about the style of football either i think we'll play similar to what Palace were like last season and in my opinion they played some decent stuff RE: Alan Irvine Sacked (please post all reaction in this thread) - Slick_Footwork - 31-12-2014 I think we're deep in the doldrums right now and Pulis certainly has the best record in these situations out of the available candidates. Yes, he doesn't have the attractive brand of football that we'd all love to see, but ultimately, the blame has to go with the board. Had they decided to opt for someone with a bit of pedigree in the summer, I believe we could've played decent football while staying up. But the decision to hire a coach with no successes on his CV has backfired, and now it's a case of do or die. I personally don't want to watch dull football, but at the same time, I prefer my away days to Liverpool and Arsenal than Rotherham and Brentford. I'll just be happy if Pulis keeps us up. Keeping us in 17th would be an achievement in the circumstances. RE: Alan Irvine Sacked (please post all reaction in this thread) - Stairs - 31-12-2014 @Slick - he did play pretty football at Palace. Remember that and cling onto it for now. Lets wait and see what happens on the pitch before we get too depressed. I do like your "I prefer away days to Liverpool and Arsenal" comment ![]() RE: Alan Irvine Sacked (please post all reaction in this thread) - BaggieMan - 31-12-2014 I thought Irvine was a bad choice as HC but was prepared to give him a chance. If the Pulis appointment is confirmed then God help us. We may stay up but watching the dross he serves up will be so very disappointing. A couple of years ago I was suffering from insomnia. My doctor suggested I should go and watch Sjoke as he said that would certainly send me to sleep ! Zzzzzzzzz RE: Alan Irvine Sacked (please post all reaction in this thread) - valpayne - 31-12-2014 (31-12-2014, 15:45)TheBaggieMan Wrote: I thought Irvine was a bad choice as HC but was prepared to give him a chance. BaggieMan I wouldn't worry about Sjoke and his time there. They were a completely different team to Albion we don't have 11 thugs for him to manage so I believe as others do here it should be more like what we saw from Palace last season given the players they and we have. Lets have some faith because as I keep saying who else out there has the minerals to sort us out right now? TP is head strong and has a winning mentality and football is as much about that as it is skills and tactics. I'm far more hopeful now than I was if AI stayed. I couldn't see us winning a single game and had started to hope for draws against teams we should beat. That's the mental attitude I had developed. It filters down don't it. ![]() ![]() ![]() RE: Alan Irvine Sacked (please post all reaction in this thread) - Mosestheballwinner - 31-12-2014 Exactly what we need under the circumstances. It'll be nice to see some passion on the sidelines again. Haven't seen that since Megson. Get 'em told Tone! RE: Alan Irvine Sacked (please post all reaction in this thread) - tidy - 31-12-2014 Just how strange is this game that we follow?... ![]() RE: Alan Irvine Sacked (please post all reaction in this thread) - Beefy 1965 - 31-12-2014 Glad to have Pullis, but this is a great mock up of FIFA 15 control pads, Made me laugh out loud ![]() ![]() RE: Alan Irvine Sacked (please post all reaction in this thread) - aries22 - 31-12-2014 Tom_WBA: Just been looking through the Tony Pulis signings Dave Kitson £5.5M Seyi Olofinjana £3M Tuncay Şanlı £5M Dean Whitehead £5M Tom_WBA Diego Arismendi £2.5M Kenwyne Jones £8M Cameron Jerome £4M Peter Crouch & Wilson Palacios £20M Charlie Adam £4M. The list of players who cost £2M+ and never made it at Stoke is endless He likes to spend decent money on bang average players. of course during his time at Stoke he made some astute signings as well but i'm not sure i'd trust him with full control of transfers at West Brom ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Tom, I'm pretty sure Tony Pulis wouldn't have been responsible for the prices paid for those players. He worked to a DofF in John Rudge, so I'm sure Rudge and the Stoke chairman would have negotiated the fees, so I think they carry the can for any overspending. Squirrel Regis: Yes Pulis early Stoke teams were an abomination but in recent years they have out passed and out played us so this hoofball talk is just wrong. Seem to remember his Palace team doing us 3-1 last season and again nothing like long ball football. We are up shit creek without a paddle now so if you want championship football and all our players leaving like rats of a sinking ship then pretty football it is. Good luck with that ! 4 wins at home in the last 12 months. Newcastle against 10 men, Villa against 10 men, Burnley and West Ham. Poor results and aimless shit football. Sorry to be blunt but wake up and smell the coffee. The last 10 years will be for nothing if we go down. Look at Blues, that's what happens when the premier league cash gets taken away. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spot on, Squirrel - and if we do go down with Pulis, I would be 1,000 times more confident of coming straight back up again under him than under a lot of other managers who Albion might appoint, but I am much more confident now that we'll stay up, barring a disaster. |
