RE: WBA vs Swansea - Match Thread - BaggieMan - 03-02-2016

Tibby is dead right, Pulis isn't the one and only reason for our poor performances but he is a vey major contributor.

In our heart of hearts, we all know Pulis is NOT the person to rebuild our squad and take us forward. His methods create too much negativity, too much division and his transfer dealings are nowhere near reliable enough. I would hope JP can see this and is planning for a replacement when the time comes. That said, JP's appointment record is as bad as Pulis' transfers !

Get Dan Ashworth back. Pay him whatever he wants.

#WBA Not good news about Jonny Evans. Pulis reports he will be out "for a few weeks" with a hamstring problem #baggies

Evans: As predicted by Drewks BEFORE kick off,  Whistle Drewks they used to burn people at the stake for that buddy Whistle
Next predictions concern the National Lottery, and can be purchased from me from tomorrow for the price of £10k .

I also predict that we will escape relegation by a gnat's knacker, and TP will be replaced in the summer by a young, good looking continental type who will be so attack minded Ben Foster will finish as our top scorer

RE: WBA vs Swansea - Match Thread - Worldclassalbion - 03-02-2016

That was apparently our lowest attendance in the Premier League and I don't blame people for staying away.

I take it the season tickets would have counted towards that? however a lot of season ticket holders by me didn't show so the crowd was even less in reality.

If TP is still there next season I won't be renewing mine, that's a fact.

RE: WBA vs Swansea - Match Thread - Zinman - 03-02-2016

BIg Vic did look good when he came but I believe this was largely because he actually had other Albion players near him. Rondon also looked better when Vic came on gor the same reason. Is it possible that Pulis might just see that neither Vic nor Rondon are capable of scoring goals when they are the only player allowed on the oppositions half? That said I ecpect Vic to start at left back on Saturday.

You are not joking I did notice they had what must have been the majority of the academy in the East Stand seated, to try to fill it up a bit I assume.

In the sense that both sides were incredibly poor (and probably equally so), yes we did.  It struck me while watching that the one thing you really can't accuse this Albion team of is lack of effort or spirit, which we often pinned our problems on a couple of years ago; they put their bodies on the line, they fight for the ball and play till the final whistle, but none of this is underpinned by actual quality where it counts.  As great as it is watching players get stuck into challenges, it sort of defeats the object when the whole reason they're doing it is because they couldn't pass the ball for ten yards without sending it to an opponent.

We are, thankfully, in a strong position where relegation is concerned and should have no problem reaching safety because we'll catch two or three teams napping between now and May.  But this summer overhaul is going to have to be enormous, and boy, don't we get sick of saying that every single summer?

Interesting post, that.
Personally, I'd rather have a team of less talented players that would scrap for everything (one extreme) than have a load of prima donas who put no effort into a game (the other), Obviously somewhere in the middle is ideal, but we maybe shouldn't be too critical of the PLAYERS, if they're giving their all - most of the criticism should be targeted at the manager/coaches, etc, who bring them to the club and decide (generally) how they play.  Huh

I'd add Newcastle to that list as well, but definitely a case of teams being worse which should keep us up.

Can't wait for this season to be over now and hopefully the start of a squad rebuild in the summer!

But, to be honest, Tibby, assuming we stay up and, as a result that Pulis stays as manager, do you think next season will be any different because I cannot see how it will be? We don't have any creativity, pace or flair in the team and this is primarily down to Pulis, the players he buys and picks and the tactics he deploys. I see the issue as Pulis, as long he's the manager I don't think anything will change. He doesn't know another way, next season he will have a change of approach because he can't. I honestly believe next season will be more of the same.......but we'll have more money!

In my defence I didn't say Pulis should rebuild our squad, just that it should be rebuilt in the summer.

If you've read my posts in the Should he be sacked thread you already know I share the same view that I don't want Pulis in charge for next season, so I'm not sure why my post has been focused upon to be honest.

We're being very blinkered if we truly think our poor performances are solely down to just one man. There's dead wood in our squad that needs replacing and the sooner it happens, the better.

Tibby, I wasn't disagreeing with you. I think you're right that there are a number of players who are not good enough but whom Pulis likes because they are prepared to play to the "tactics" he demands. These players need to in the summer. My issue is that, as long as Pulis is manager, they won't go because he likes them. So, no change of manager = no change of personnel and more of the same.
