RE: Takeover update - Devongone - 08-08-2020

My only worry is that Trusts tend to suffer from the Hughie-Green syndrome. The more they say "sincerely folks" the less you expect to see any sincerity.

Mr Goodwin and his colleagues seem and sound like good eggs. For the first time since Dave Allen's five-year plan it sounded as though we might be interested in success in the long term. And for the first time in my lifetime it is beginning to feel as if the fans, the town and club may actually be coming together.

Locally to me down here in Devon I have had very bad experiences and have seen how a Trust can "accidentally" operate in ways in which those apparently in power would never have intended at the outset. It always seemed to me that one of the problems was those involved in making decisions didn't really have any skin in the game. BUT football certainly has the capacity to be different. The reason supporters' voices need to be heard is because they do have skin in the game, not only through the turnstiles, but through their hearts and souls. Football is about us having skin in the game. We love our teams. If Mr Goodwin stood on the Cross Street End aged seven the thing he should remember is to NEVER LET THAT LITTLE BOY DOWN. He and his fellow board members don't have to win us a string of promotions, nice as they would be, they just have to enable us to look towards the next season and the one after that, knowing there is a future and that we can adapt and survive.

It makes me want to come back to Derbyshire.

The Liam Cooper sell on of £150,000 went to DA. The trust were expecting the money to come in this week but apparently the club received the money before the takeover went through.

RE: Takeover update - Devongone - 13-08-2020

Bob's Board was not happy!

Apparently DA was very happy in a bitter and twisted way.

RE: Takeover update - Dancingwilldoit - 14-08-2020

To be fair, what DA said was correct. If the Trust accepted the books as they were and they didnt know the Cooper money had been received and gone out again is their own fault. The words Due and Diligence apply to every business deal. Then again this is another DT story so who knows the truth of it?

Do you not trust the Derbyshire Times?

In a word Matt "No".
It needs to sell papers and advertising so needs to sensationalise everything otherwise people just wont be interested. The number of stories and doctored/posed photo's they run are just too many to mention.

Isn't that the case for most newspapers?

I read several types of newspapers and read news from different media outlets and then come to my own conclusion.

Only 2 newspapers which will report on our club is the Derbyshire Times and the non-league paper.

RE: Takeover update - Devongone - 18-08-2020

One day last week I bought The Daily Mail and The Morning Star.

Papers have an agenda.

I have an agenda.

RE: Takeover update - Dancingwilldoit - 18-08-2020

Didnt know the Morning Star was still in print. You must have bought the only copy of it Dev.

The days of Newspapers is past with maybe the exception of the Weekend/Sundays when you can read some damn good articles. The internet has killed them off and if technology carries on as it is it wont be long before they die a complete death.

RE: Takeover update - Devongone - 19-08-2020

The internet mostly imitates the styles and tropes of newspapers. You imagine you can respond but that facility hardly differs from writing to a newspaper agony aunt. You might get to talk to a journalist but you won't influence the paper. On the net you may be on a platform but the platform will maintain its agenda despite you.

Nothing important changes. Most revolutions are illusions.

The Morning Star is in financial trouble, but so are all papers. I bought it to help out and to read one particular article. And because I'm a red.

I don't think newspapers have had their final day any more than books and magazines.
