Feel like I'm in the minority here but I'll put my opinion forward. I wouldn't want Pulis or Sherwood anywhere near the Albion. Pulis would probably save us from relegation but I absolutely detest the man. He encourages thuggery in his teams, spends a lot of money on dross and plays horrendous football. Also, besides his football attributes, I simply think he is a thoroughly unpleasant man. He's quite possibly the person I dislike the most in football. As to Sherwood, I just don't think he's good enough o if he is appointed, I'd back him fully but I would be very worried.

Bomberbrown1968:
Over to you JP, big decision time, only good thing to come out of Irvine's appointment is that I'd hope JP wouldn't want anymore egg on his face because he hasn't come out of the last 12 months with any credit.

Totally agree with this, Bomberbrown1968.
JP's got to stop cutting corners taking the cheap option and he has to start putting this great club of ours on a proper footing. He just can't keep on making duff appointments, the stakes are too high.
Drewks, Gianfranco Zola was made head coach of Cagliari last week I think, so he's out of the running.
I will be happy with either Tony Pulis or Tim Sherwood, although I think Sherwood is the riskier of the two options. Pulis knows what's required.
I used to be like BaggieMan in my views of Pulis, but he left Stoke with a better squad and he did do well at Crystal Palace with their flair players. I hope he could do the same at Albion while stabilising our defence in the process.

Just been looking through the Tony Pulis signings
Dave Kitson £5.5M
Seyi Olofinjana £3M
Tuncay Şanlı £5M
Dean Whitehead £5M
Diego Arismendi £2.5M
Kenwyne Jones £8M
Cameron Jerome £4M
Peter Crouch & Wilson Palacios £20M
Charlie Adam £4M
The list of players who cost £2M+ and never made it at Stoke is endless
He likes to spend decent money on bang average players. of course during his time at Stoke he made some astute signings as well but i'm not sure i'd trust him with full control of transfers at West Brom

Spot on Tom !
Given his record of signing mostly 'dross' God help us financially if he was given total control of JP's cheque book.  IMO, he's a nasty, egotistical, self opinionated Taff who turned Sjoke into a bunch of hoofballing thugs and got lucky with what he inherited at Palace. I haven't met a Sjokie up here in North Staffs who has a kind word for him but would be delighted to see us take the burden. Before he was ousted from Sjoke, there was a long running 'Pulis Out' campaign similar to that we have experienced with Irvine.

It would be a very poor move to appoint him. I would be very surprised if JP, given his personality, could stand him being in the same room.

Like many of you, I'm very concerned by the sudden hero-worship of Tony Pulis.

I know we're in a difficult situation which needs a steady hand at the tiller. I know beggars can't be choosers. But make no mistake; this would be yet more short-termism from the club, and while Pulis might stagger along for a while on the merits of a bit of fast counter-attacking, grinding out results and (let's be honest) simply not being Alan Irvine, I don't see him delivering the kind of attacking, possession football most fans want to see in the long run. Six, twelve or eighteen months down the line, presuming we're still in the league, we're once again going to be demanding decent football from a bunch of mismatched players signed to play a totally different style.

Once again, it seems there's no road map behind the scenes; we're just spinning a signpost and merrily skipping down whichever highway it points us.

SKA'd I agree with nearly all you say. I don't think its so much hero worship as it is more us being desperate for someone who could possibly save us. Time is running out fast and the transfer window is imminent. I would definitely like to see more names put forward and interviews taking place but at the min I think Pulis is the more likely to save us. I do agree though long term he isn't the answer to what we want to see at the Albion, nice football but he did ok at Palace. Thumb up

I honestly don't think the role of head-coach (or manager) is as important as people think it is. The undeniable truth is that only PLAYERS are allowed to play the game. Those on the side of the pitch in their "technical areas" can jump up and down; threaten; cajole; scream at players; make complete fools of themselves as much as they want but they have zero physical impact on the games outcome. Their much vaunted "tactical nous"; "strategical mastery" etc, etc is, for me, over exaggerated. So I don't really care who is appointed....actually that's not true...I would love to see Bomber Brown appointed to be head-coach with the sole task of giving the pre-match and half time talks and all other responsibilities given to the underlings on the coaching/management staff (they don't do much now anyway). Get an ex-Baggie with PASSION in.

RE: Alan Irvine Sacked (please post all reaction in this thread) - Bournemouth Baggie - 30-12-2014

Pulis just smacks of "Any port in a storm" in my mind. These are extraordinary times at The Albion I admit but in "ordinary times" we would not want him near our club. Would we? We can panic buy, and I believe he represents a panic buy, or look for the coach of sufficient quality who can get us out of trouble and take us forward. Root and branch overhaul of coaching stuff must take place otherwise you're merely diluting a stagnant pool not cleaning it.

RE: Alan Irvine Sacked (please post all reaction in this thread) - wba_1996 - 30-12-2014

I'd give it Pulis until the end of the season, give him room to make changes to the squad in January as he sees fit. He will keep us up, but then we need to look at the football we played under him and the signings he makes before deciding on whether to give it to him long term. The fact he was considering the Brighton job shows he is pretty desperate to get back into management so a compromise between him and JP shouldn't be a problem.

If not, I'd take Sherwood or a proven head coach/manager in a top foreign league. Would love Laudrup but there is no chance.

RE: Alan Irvine Sacked (please post all reaction in this thread) - Slick_Footwork - 30-12-2014

At the start of the season, Pulis would definitely not be a choice of mine.

I'd have liked us to go for a coach with top level experience who played decent, expansive football.

However, times are a bit desperate now. The only difference between our current position and bottom of
the league is an Esteban Cambiasso own goal. We don't look like we can score a goal but are shipping 2
on a regular basis.

With half the season already gone, we need to hit the ground running.

The thing about Pulis is he knows this league, knows the opposition and knows how to grind out results.

Yes, he failed with taking Stoke to the next level when given money, but our position is more comparable
to Palace, we're currently hurtling towards the Championship at a rate of knots...

And to be fair to Pulis, he did a remarkable job with them.

Not only did they stop shipping goals, but the likes of Bolasie and Puncheon looked like different players.

I think he'd have as good a chance as anyone of keeping us up.

As for Sherwood, not too sure. I liked the fact that he has a set of b*lls and tries to attack teams, but I
did think he was a bit tactically naive. I don't think his time in management was long enough to make a
decision on his credentials.

It's going to be a tough job for anyone, but despite never admiring his style, I think we could do a lot
worse than giving Pulis the job until the end of the season with a large bonus for keeping us up.

Move on in the summer...
