RE: WBA vs Swansea - Match Thread - Dingle-Dingle - 01-03-2022

“I’m disappointed not just with the manner in which we conceded goals, but it all started in the second minute when the first corner we had was played in too low."

Had it hit an ankle and gone in you would say it was a wonder cross, you don`t know what you`re talking about.

“I understand we’re in a difficult place and we’re in a bad run, but from the first five minutes of the game the decisions we made and the balls we were playing were a big problem for us."

At home, 42% possession, in front of your own fans. And for the next 85 minutes did anyone try to change things??

“It might have been different if the two Robinson efforts go in rather than hitting the post, but we can’t be happy with the performance."

They didn`t though. Probably the only times anywhere near target. Did the Swans keeper have to make a save all night. At least under Val we were getting twice as many shots in. Typical Bruce set up.

“There were too many players nervous and anxious. There wasn’t enough confidence. It’s up to me to try and breathe confidence into them."

I have no confidence in you, why should they?

Ashamed to be a Baggie at this time..

At the end of Ismael's time, the football was absolute dross and we never looked like scoring a goal. But we occasionally kept a clean sheet at least.

Under Bruce, we're equally bad going forward. There is no pattern of play, no energy. We don't commit any men forward. Yet, we look like we're going to concede every time the opposition come at us.

None of the midfield get up there with the forwards, yet none have any defensive awareness either. How do players who excel in absolutely nothing become professional? And how have we managed to accumulate so many no hopers? We gave away academy grads like Field bring in the likes of Mulumby and Reach. Why? they couldn't lace Field's boots.

We're in a bad state and Steve Bruce isn't the answer. His idea of trying to build a side around Adam Reach tells us enough.

The season is now over, so get someone in who will install some pride at least. Bruce isn't inspiring anyone except the fans of the opposition. Honestly can't see where our next win is coming from.

Spot on!

RE: WBA vs Swansea - Match Thread - Zinman - 04-03-2022

Bruce inherited a team that were relatively strong defensively but poor in midfield and attack. Since his arrival he’s constantly changed the defence but left the midfield and strikers unchanged. We’re conceding more and creating nothing.
I thought Allardyce was a bad appointment but fear Bruce may be worse.

RE: WBA vs Swansea - Match Thread - BaggieSteve - 04-03-2022

This appointment reminds me so much of Pardew’s after the sacking of Pulis. At that time, there was a strong feeling that we should have stayed within the club on a temporary basis with the existing coaching staff but we hadn’t reckoned upon Dowling contacting his mate Pardew. No surprise when that went completely t*ts up and, quelle surprise (as Delboy might say) we appoint Big Dave who does an outstanding job to the end of the season.

Fast forward to January 2022 and we’re in a similar situation with the manager so we sack him - not unjustifiably- and appoint Pardew Mark 2. Do we never learn, do we never listen? Bruce, even in his managerial heyday ( whenever that was) was average at best; now he’s a past it, recently sacked has been…so we offer him the job! It’s apparent from his recent utterings that he hasn’t a clue how to move this team forward. Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s working with a largely talentless squad that is also low on confidence. But he’s the manager, his job is to lead, to provide direction, clarity, confidence….he’s incapable of doing that.

Will he last longer than Pardew? His record is as bad although he hasn’t taken the squad to Spain yet for a taxi ride so he’s got a few credits left. And I know his appointment is symptomatic of an incompetently run club but there is little we can do about that as long as Lai is the owner.

Please, Mr Lai/Gourlay, get rid of Bruce, write off this season, give the reins to Morrison and Brunt until season end, let them bring some pride back into this team…and then do a proper fu**ing job in appointing the next manager.

I won’t be holding my breath however

Well said, Steve. We're assuming Morrison & Brunt are capable coaches........but there's no evidence that they ARE!

You're right, TalkSAFT, we don't know and we'd be taking a punt on that. But they've got to be better than what we have. I honestly think this season is written off as far as promotion goes, so I don't think we lose anything by temporarily appointing them and we may see some decent football. It would give them the chance to shine - or not, as the case may be.

OK, Steve. But, much as I liked and admired them both, our Team don't appear to be striving too hard under their supervision. That area is part of Coaching, and it hasn't worked under Ismail or Bruce. I hear stories of players ignoring Management on the Training Ground and Changeing Room, so why can't the "Foremen" kick 'em up the arse, or cuddle them?

To be honest, TalkSAFT, I have no idea how much influence or involvement they have. Bruce has brought in his own back room staff, including his son, and when I see photos of the coaching team, I don't see either Jimmy or Brunty, although I may have missed them. You're right that the players need some 'hands-on' treatment but whatever is happening clearly isn't working
