Davie Weir is just another wander down the ex-player-messiah route.
I'd rather bring in Warburton (or similar) and A N Other unconnected with club.

From what I have seen they are selling themselves as a combo though. As long as Weir is only the assistant then I would think it would be worth it to get Warburton. Warburton brings a whole different approach to managing a team, using stats a lot to make decisions on who gets brought in and how the team is used. Its worked with Brentford, who are small by comparison to you, but I think he is one for the future even iif he is actually gettting on a bit and late to the management game.

I remember Robinson coming out a couple of weeks ago saying right club wrong time re the Rangers job.
Definitely want to see fresh faces at the club, as has been said before no association with the club. Warburton would do for me.

Warburton would be a risky proposition (though who wouldn't be?). He's in his fifties but he's only been a manager for the last couple of years. He's been relatively successful for a Brentford manager but that's about it. His interest in developing youth, experience as a sporting director and willingness to work with one are all plus points, and we could land him as a) he seems to have earned enough from his previous career that he works in football because he wants to, not because he has to, so salary might not be a problem, and; b) we might be the biggest club willing to take a shot on him at this point. 3 or 4 good years with us could earn him a move to a Premier League club so it would be a good bridging point.
Is he the right man for the job? Who knows. I still think McCall has the best chance of getting it for now.

We need someone with a bit of vision and the ability to identify players that fit that vision.
I think we all accept that Ally's methodology of buy players proven at a certain level but just throwing them on the park (or so it seemed on many occasions) is not the way forward.
The English Championship is a level way above its Scottish equivalent, and well above the vast majority of the Scottish Premiership. To have a led a club with relatively limited resources to the play offs there is a decent, but not mind blowing, achievement.

The only other candidate for me is Mcleish. Going backwards i know but he has worked on a limited budget before very succesfully i may add. But is he the right man to employ a decent youth policy?
