I remember Sammy very well, but don't know anything about him. He looked like a young (although he was older than most of us) Father Jack!
Steve used to do the zigger-zagger zigger-zagger and we'd all chant AL-BI-ON
He just had a very loud commanding voice.

Sammy's full name is Sammy Greenaway; at the time he lived down Richard Street, and worked at the Dart Spring. I tried to track him down, but the closest sources I found to him said they hadn't seen him in a few years, and he'd been in poor health.

I believe the Steve who did the zigger zagger chant was Steve Morris who came from the Denbiegh Estate in Tipton. I believe he lives in Hill Top now and is still in good health

I'm pretty sure the guy I remember doing the conducting had short, light brown curly hair, and he didn't wear glasses.

If you've ever read "Fever Pitch" and liked it, you'll LOVE this. It's not about the Arsenal, or even the Villa, or Dingles - it's about THE ALBION! - and it's in proper Black Country dialect.
I had it for Christmas, started it on Wednesday, and couldn't put it down. I've laughed out loud (and cried out loud) this last few days. Can't recommend it enough! You won't be disappointed. Imperative reading for all Albion fans, and once you've read it tell your friends, and neighbours at The Hawthorns.

Just finished the book and thought it a cracking read. It was very well crafted with characters you could relate to and cared about. Thought the relationship between Matthew and Aasha was particularly poignant.
The football content was enjoyable and I relived some great memories.
Having read Ska’ds excellent match threads I always suspected he was a gifted wordsmith.
