RE: Ska'dforLife's Book: Brummie Road - Amelia Chaffinch - 08-01-2015 talkSAFT, living betwixt those 2 places is a double whammy! Although Crapford did beat Villa which was quite funny. The author relates the early days of the Brummie Road choir and refers to a Sammie (and Steve) leading the choir. I do recall looking up the Brummie Rd and seeing this Sammie conducting proceedings atop a crash barrier. Does anyone know who he was? I remember Sammy very well, but don't know anything about him. He looked like a young (although he was older than most of us) Father Jack! Steve used to do the zigger-zagger zigger-zagger and we'd all chant AL-BI-ON He just had a very loud commanding voice. RE: Ska'dforLife's Book: Brummie Road - aries22 - 09-01-2015 I remember the zigger-zagger chant very well and the guy conducting it atop said crash barrier. RE: Ska'dforLife's Book: Brummie Road - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 09-01-2015 Sammy's full name is Sammy Greenaway; at the time he lived down Richard Street, and worked at the Dart Spring. I tried to track him down, but the closest sources I found to him said they hadn't seen him in a few years, and he'd been in poor health. Thanks for that. I believe the Steve who did the zigger zagger chant was Steve Morris who came from the Denbiegh Estate in Tipton. I believe he lives in Hill Top now and is still in good health RE: Ska'dforLife's Book: Brummie Road - talkSAFT - 10-01-2015 (09-01-2015, 20:18)brokenmanrepaired Wrote:(09-01-2015, 18:29)aries22 Wrote: I remember the zigger-zagger chant very well and the guy conducting it atop said crash barrier. Longish dark hair and glasses back then, probably about 67 now? RE: Ska'dforLife's Book: Brummie Road - aries22 - 10-01-2015 I'm pretty sure the guy I remember doing the conducting had short, light brown curly hair, and he didn't wear glasses. That describes Sammy. They both did their bit! RE: Ska'dforLife's Book: Brummie Road - brokenmanrepaired - 12-01-2015 (06-01-2015, 17:45)talkSAFT Wrote: Has anyone read our own Ska'd's novel yet? Well..........DO! Just finished the book and thought it a cracking read. It was very well crafted with characters you could relate to and cared about. Thought the relationship between Matthew and Aasha was particularly poignant. The football content was enjoyable and I relived some great memories. Having read Ska’ds excellent match threads I always suspected he was a gifted wordsmith. |
