Sick of hearing what a good coach he is !!! His style of football was negative and dull and the results don't lie. Good riddance. The coach not manager foolish plan looks like continuing though so more of the same failure awaits. JP will appoint another untried coach when he should be looking at the reasons why the past coaches have failed. Downing, Kelly, Kiely and even Burton should be sacked as they have all played a part in this disgrace. RE: Alan Irvine Sacked (please post all reaction in this thread) - Beefy 1965 - 30-12-2014 Dont shoot the messenger but those who frequent westbrom.com will know Baggie96 is usually a trusted iTK May not happen but ............ Skad and 1996 will also probably know most of his comments are ALMOST spot on ![]() Offline baggie96 Youth Baggie *** Re: Alan Irvine sacked by Albion « Reply #6679 on: Yesterday at 11:37:04 PM » Quote Pulis on an 18 month deal is what I'm hearing. RE: Alan Irvine Sacked (please post all reaction in this thread) - Slick_Footwork - 30-12-2014 Chuffed to bits that he's gone. The guy will not have the ability to recognise a good footballer as long as he has a hole in his rear. That was obvious to me with his inept selections throughout his time. It's no surprise that we bring through so many p*ss poor players in this country with people like Irvine working at grass roots level. Constantly favoring journeymen runners over lads who actually have genuine talent. He spoke well and might be a lovely fella, but he will never be a football coach. He's nothing more than a great sales person who has managed to convince someone that he's a coach. Make no mistake, whoever comes in has a tough job. Our top scorer is probably on his way out, there's clearly a strong dressing room 'clique' of players who aren't good enough at this level, a lot of our potential game changers probably aren't fit after being frozen out and many winnable home games have already been fluffed. The good news is, I don't think we can employ anyone as inept as Irvine - so it can't get any worse. As much as I dislike Pulis' style - I think he will organise us well enough to give us a fighting chance and hopefully get us counter attacking with more pace. Sherwood's 'revolutionary' style would've been preferred from the start of the season, but at least he has the b*lls to shake us up. We certainly need it. Anything can happen from here - but I firmly believe we were going down with Irvine in charge. I didn't think we had any wins in us. This decision at least gives us a fighting chance of playing Premier League football next season. RE: Alan Irvine Sacked (please post all reaction in this thread) - aries22 - 30-12-2014 JP - aided by Terry Burton - is to blame for this whole mess. Irvine's sacking comes 5 years to the day since Preston sacked him, and he followed that up by taking Sheffield Wednesday from the Championship to League One. How on earth could Peace and Burton think Irvine was good enough to succeed in the Premier League? I am convinced their decision was based on (1) taking the cheapest option, someone who could manage a group of players good enough to keep us in the Premier League no matter who was head coach, and (2) choosing someone weak who wouldn't rock the boat. If ever the Peter Principle applied, Alan Irvine is a shining example. He truly is someone promoted to the level of his incompetence. We the fans saw this back in the summer. How in God's name Peace and Burton couldn't is beyond me. A totally wasted season and, given the five-game run-in we've got, we've now got 14 games to get the 20-23 points we need just to survive. Some fans on here are calling for the current coaching team to be dismantled, others for the whole staff to be looked at. Apart from looking at himself after saying he wanted to put right the mistakes made last season, JP also ought to be looking at the DofF position and asking what value Terry Burton's actually brought to this club. The paying fans deserve far better. Slick-Footwork 1. Chuffed to bits that he's gone. 2. The good news is, I don't think we can employ anyone as inept as Irvine - so it can't get any worse. 3. I firmly believe we were going down with Irvine in charge. 4. I didn't think we had any wins in us. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I totally agree with all four of these comments, Slick. RE: Alan Irvine Sacked (please post all reaction in this thread) - wba_1996 - 30-12-2014 The Mirror reporting Downing and Kiely will be going too, hope so. West Ham is a free swing now, I would take a draw, dont want us smashing them and Downing getting appointed... RE: Alan Irvine Sacked (please post all reaction in this thread) - silverbaggie - 30-12-2014 Sorry Baggieman but, I'd take Pulis like a shot. What these players of ours need now is a strong Manager who will not take crap from anybody. If the new man bangs a few heads together or upsets some of the 'senior' players, then all to the good. Our players have got to be shaken out of their complacency, taught how to defend without making mistakes and encouraged to develop a winning mentality. If Downing and Kiely also become casualties and if we have to revert to having a Manager instead of a Head Coach.... so be it. JP swallow your pride and appoint a man who will not be afraid to stand up to you if needs be. Another Gary Megson is now needed here but, with more attacking flair. RE: Alan Irvine Sacked (please post all reaction in this thread) - turkeydinner - 30-12-2014 Very happy for you all, isnt a EPL calibre manager and from what a WBA friend told me played totally dour football which isnt as bad if your Champions of Europe but not been the case Cant see why any club would want Pulis, he did great at Palace but ask any Stoke fan they wouldnt have him back for all the tea in China Dare I say that a former WBA Captain is doing very well managing in the SPL year on year, I dont think wll happen this season but eventually possibly RE: Alan Irvine Sacked (please post all reaction in this thread) - Stairs - 30-12-2014 Thank god it's over. I never wanted him in the first place and despite being a nice guy he has caused huge damage to our club. JP is as much to blame for gambling on him when credible, but more expensive, options were available. I would not have wanted Pulus before. But now would take him in a shot, as he organises a team, makes them hard to beat. If that kept us up and took us mid table next season, I'm in! That said, Sherwood would be exciting. He was my first choice before. But ANY coach/manager will be an improvement on what we had. Bring it on! RE: Alan Irvine Sacked (please post all reaction in this thread) - Worldclassalbion - 30-12-2014 I would never have wanted Pulis either but like some of you here I'd take him now. Yes Stoke were long ball, kick ya head in BUT he had Palace playing great attacking football and was using his wingers Bolaise and Zaha. He also won't take any crap off players. If its him so be it. As I always state when we are looking for a new coach (4th time recent years) I would love to see Laudrup. This is a crucial appointment and we need to get it right this time, surely we can't get it wrong again, Can We?? ![]() Eddie Howe Steve Cotterill Tim Sherwood Martin Jol (heart instead of head, loved him as a player and is a good HC/Manager) PS Good Luck AI but stick to coaching, leave it to someone else to pick the team. ![]() |
