Women's World Cup - drewks - 29-06-2019 Wowza!! Just a couple of years ago I saw a bit of a top league women's game, and it was 'pub team' standard, with apologies to many pub teams. I haven't watched any since, until this tournament's knock out phase started, as I was thinking it could only be marginally better, if it all. WRONG! The game is now played at a good pace by skilful, fit players who try to keep possession AND go forward (most professional men footballers take note). IMHO it's a far better game to watch than the PL, and maybe even the Championship. Also, most of the players are more honest and don't try and cheat and fall about like.....girls ![]() If you've not watched any because (like me maybe) of some outdated idea of the women's game, give it a try! RE: Women's World Cup - Salopbaggie - 29-06-2019 Have to support you there drewks. I have watched all the England games and a few others it really is good, different but good. If you want to see a decent 22 yard screamer have a look at Bronze's goal in England's last game against Norway (3rd goal) or a couple of class headers from the USA today. Sadly we play the USA in the semi's next Tuesday and I fear that may be the end of the road for the 'Lionesses', but its a knockout cup game so who knows. As for popularity 7.6 million watched England's game with Norway. The semi-finals and the final were sold out weeks ago and they are in 50,000 plus stadiums and it is being estimated that TV viewers for the final will reach 1 billion people watching. RE: Women's World Cup - Lord Snooty - 29-06-2019 There have been a couple of diving incidents, but on the whole it's lovely not seeing blatant, cynical cheating and trying to get your opponent sent off. As said, the skill levels super, the games themselves are most watchable. Half the games in the men's world cup certainly weren't watchable. ![]() RE: Women's World Cup - Dingle-Dingle - 29-06-2019 A breath of fresh air, but I miss the shirt swapping at the end. DD ![]() ![]() RE: Women's World Cup - Arcane Astral Aeons - 29-06-2019 watched most of the WWC breath of fresh air better than the mens version very competitive games no play acting no diving would love to see the England Ladies Win It but please no VAR ruined certain games RE: Women's World Cup - WBA-Josh - 29-06-2019 I’ve watched as much I can of it and I’ve been impressed by the quality especially with the England side. There’s been major improvements in the women’s game since I last properly watched it years ago and it’s only going to get better. Good on them. Tuesday night is going to be a very entertaining match. RE: Women's World Cup - wba13 - 30-06-2019 Great to watch will be watching Tuesday it’s coming home . RE: Women's World Cup - Amelia Chaffinch - 30-06-2019 http://www.sportsbabble.co.uk/thread-8572.html http://www.sportsbabble.co.uk/thread-8596.html RE: Women's World Cup - silverbaggie - 30-06-2019 Agreed there have been some good matches and am impressed with the Lionesses so far. I even got very agitated with the tactics employed by the Cameroon women in the quarter final match How come there wasn't even one red card in that game. There was an early elbow in the face for Parris our right wing, the spitting incident, the arguing with decisions and last but not least the murderous tackle on England's captain right at the end of the game. I believe that they are going to be investigated but, I fully expect a complete whitewash as they are an African team.( No pun intended) ![]() RE: Women's World Cup - wba13 - 02-07-2019 Playing ok just wish they could head a ball. Bardsley should have played in goal . 45 left to get back on track. Women play ok but they ought to learn how to take penalties, they seem to telegraph where there putting them . |
