LAST MATCH

We fell defeat to Blackburn as we lost by the only goal, just 2 wins in the last 10 at Hillsborough, that needs to be rectified. There weren't too many chances in the first half but both sides did manage to hit the bar, Travis striking the bar from the edge of the area then Valery heading onto the bar as we went in level at the break. Onto the 2nd half and Blackburn got the only goal of the game as Gueye headed in from close range. We pressed for an equaliser, Smith had a chance saved then Bannan fired just wide from a free kick, but we couldn't find the leveller.

THE MATCH

Next up and we journey south to take on Oxford, who we have losing record against. Oxford did make a decent start to the season but have tailed off somewhat and now lie in 20th position and haven't won in 5 games. You would imagine they will be in the relegation dogfight come the end of the season, there home form might be the deciding factor if they stay up. They are managed by Des Buckingham who took charge in December 2023 and led them to promotion in the playoffs. There leading scorers are Dane Scarlett & Mark Harris with 4 goals each.

Leeds United
Deepdale 14/12/2024 12.30pm

Can see a Jurgen Klopp rant if it had been Liverpool, Leeds play Tuesday night, we have an away game in Wales which due to the joys of the Motorway system suggest team would not have got home before 4 am. Hey television money though.

HTAFC Prediction League 2024/25 Matchday 19
Posted by: Lord Snooty - 09-12-2024, 16:30 - Forum: Huddersfield Town - Replies (17)

2 points for correct result
4 points for correct score
2 points for each correct scorer
Correct joker doubles your score   Laugh (correct score on a joker would give you 8 points)
Wrong joker result gives you minus 2
Correct Badger gives you 2 points Badger

The prize for winning the league is one rep point.

Cup games: In the event of a draw, it's half the points if you've predicted a draw when it gets to 90 mins and the full points if it's still a draw after extra time. Half the points will be awarded for correctly predicting the winner of the match if it goes to penalties. However, if you do predict a draw and it's a match that won't be going to a replay, you can get a possible extra point by stating which of the two teams you think will eventually win.

Random score generator: I will be using the random score generator again for those who miss predicting, so we shouldn't get some people too far behind that after missing a couple of weeks they lose all interest, because I know it's not easy getting on here every week.
To be fair to everybody, this is going to be like, say if three people in one week miss their predictions, the first one in the table will be given all 0-0, the second one down the line will get 1-0 and the third will get 0-1 and so on, like if there's four missing the 4th will get 1-1, then 5th 2-1, 6th 1-2. and if there are so many missing, might as well pack in. Wink
And if you miss two weeks on the trot, I'll stop until you come back on again. Not doing it for half a season like I did t'other year.  Rolleyes

At the end of the season, the winner of group 2 and the bottom of group 1 will swap places in what is commonly known as "promotion" and "relegation". It's something that most football fans will be familiar with, unless you're a fan of Liverpool or Arsenal or one of those other fashionable clubs.

The second placed player in group 2 will then have a play off with the player who finishes second from the bottom in group 1 to decide whether they will be going up, down or staying where they are.

We're going to have two seasons in one though, just to try and make it a bit more interesting and not so long drawn out. The first season will end on the Boxing Day fixtures, with the play offs being on the dates of the Twixtmas fixtures and the NYD fixtures.

The second season will start the following week, which is usually the FA Cup 3rd round, finishing on the last game of the League One season. Then another period of relegation/promotion play off games, taking in such fixtures as the EFL play offs, FA Cup Final, UEFA finals and such like.

Each group will have it's own set of fixtures. Both groups will have the Town games, with scorers to predict as before. Then it will be a split of League One fixtures and bonus matches, hopefully around ten, eleven or twelve games per Matchday.

The random badger is restricted to three goal scorers in any of the fixtures in your group.

Here's how that will appear at the end of the fixture list. All you have to do is fill in the blanks.......

Badger *** scores for ***
Badger *** scores for ***
Badger *** scores for ***

Any of those will score two points if correct. No minus points for getting it wrong.

Postponed matches will only count if the match is re-played before the next Matchday is under way. Abandoned matches will be awarded half the points for the score at the time of abandonment, so 1 point if you have the correct result, 2 points if you have the correct score.

Substitute Badger or scorer in one of the Town games:- These will be only be allowed if you change them before the match involved has kicked off.

Bolton Wanderers v Huddersfield Town
Bristol Street Motors Vertu Trophy - round 2 (North)
Tuesday December 10th - 19:45 ko
at the Toughsheet Community Stadium

Huddersfield Town travel to Horwich to the Reebok Stadium on Tuesday evening to play Bolton Wanderers in the 2nd round of this season's EFL Trophy.

It's now a straight knockout, with drawn games going to a penalty shoot out instead of extra time.

Tickets:

£10 Adults and £5 Concessions (Over 65s and Under 18s).

Head to Head

Bolton lead the head to head with 46 wins to Town's 37, with 20 draws.

Those statistics are from Soccerbase, which sadly hasn't included the game in the FL Trophy. We have only met once in this competition and that was on the 2nd of February 1993 at Leeds Road, four days before they would come back here for a league game.

Town won the Trophy game 3-0. There was a crowd of 2,996 there for what was an Area Quarter Final game. Our goals came from Iwan Roberts and Mark Stuart, with future Hibs, Rotherham and St Mirren manager, Alan Stubbs gifting us an own goal. They came back on Saturday and came away with a point in a 1-1 draw, which left us bottom of the 3rd Division. The Trophy results probably keeping manager Ian Ross in his job.

We lost the Area Semi Final 5-2 away at Wigan Athletic's Springfield Park.

A brief history of Bolton's recent record in this competition:

2023/24: Lost on pens in q/f at Blackpool.
2022/23: Won it, beating Plymouth 4-0 at Wembley.
2021/22: Lost in rd 3 at Hartlepool.
2020/21: Out in group stage.
2019/20: Lost in rd 2 at Accrington.

Trotters profiles:

Joel Coleman, our reserve keeper in the David Wagner promotion season, is there now. He hasn't played this season but was the one who played in all of the Trophy games last season.

Kyle Dempsey, who played 24 times for us in 2015/16, is now in his 4th season at Burnden Park. He's been a naughty boy and has to wear an electronic tag when he's not playing football, following his conviction for assault last year. He was given a 12 month suspended sentence.

The third ex Town player in their squad is Scott Arfield. Released in 2013 after three seasons at the Galpharm, he went on to have a great career despite that setback. He went to play for Burnley, winning promotion twice to the Premier League. Then on to Rangers for five seasons, winning the title in 20/21 and the Scottish Cup the year after.

He was a Scotland u21 player when he joined us, but later switched to Canada because his dad was born in Toronto, earning himself 19 caps.

Bolton's scores in Group D:

Sep 3: Barrow 2-3 Bolton
McAtee, Collins, Dempsey

Oct 8: Bolton 1-1 Aston Villa u21s (Villa won penalty shoot out 4-1)
Adeboyejo

Nov 12: Bolton 2-1 Fleetwood
Collins (2)

LAST MATCH

We managed to salvage a point after a disappointing performance. Preston were at it from the start and after a few missed chances deservedly took the lead when Riis tapped in from a few yards. Preston had further chances with Beadle keeping us in the match. Onto the 2nd half and Preston should have doubled there lead but Potts missed with only Beadle to beat. We were then awarded a penalty only for Windass to have the pen saved. We did then equalise, Musaba getting down the left and actually decided to cross it for Smith to fire home. We hade one or two scares near the end but managed to get a point.

Next up and a second Lancashire team make the journey over the Pennines. Despite losing their top scorer from last season, Szmodjics, Rovers have made a good start to the season, currently lying in 6th place in the table after winning there last 4 games. If they can keep it up they could sneak a playoff spot. They are managed by John Eustace who took over in February this year. There joint leading scorers are Weimann & Ohashi who have four goals each.

New thread starting with a quote from Wakey off the old thread

(08-12-2024, 18:26)WakeyTerrier Wrote: Still in for Taylor from Luton who is desperate to move here but once again we are waiting for Luton to get a replacement in first.

Also in for at least one more striker but as of yet no clue as to who or from where.

Left wing back is a priority signing in January and was before Miller got injured. It's safe to assume Duff doesn't rate Headley much.

Someone he does like though is Balker, can't wait for him to be fit again
