Hibs v Rangers, 20 Sept, KO 12 noon
Posted by: 0762 - 17-09-2020, 23:53 - Forum: Hibernian - Replies (17)

Well this is a Scot Prem fixture in which I would love to see Hibs "showing up" and really giving this Rangers team a serious game of footie because no Scot Prem side has actually done that yet TBF!!! I wanna see a strong defensive shape in JR's line up but lets have the "two up top" and test out their defence with the forwards that we have at our disposal. Again I wanna see Hibs focusing on Tavernier's defensive position which IMO is the "gateway" through their defence. Also give me an element of physicality on Tavernier and his defensive buddy, Barisic, on their left flank as well - they don't like it when it gets more serious in that respect. That should be part of a strategy to deal with their supply lines to their forwards - we need to restrict those "crosses" as much as poss! They have had to travel to Gibraltar and back as part of their Europa League commitments - C'mon Hibs, test them out and beat them!!

Everton vs WBA - Match Thread

A perfect start for Albion last week, only in the sense that such an abysmal defeat against a Leicester side who never broke sweat made it clear even to a blind man in China that we can't muddle through this season with last year's personnel. Now armed with extra options in the form of Branislav Ivanovic and Conor Gallagher, we travel to Goodison Park for Saturday's early match at 12.30 in the hope of getting off the mark.

In recent years, the Toffees have been slow starters who flirt with the relegation zone for a few months before cobbling their standard mid-table run of form together, but a win at New White Hart Lane last weekend offered a bit of hope that Ancelotti may have more about him than Martinez, Koeman, Allardyce and Silva. Certainly, he's bolstered a forward line that already boasted frequent scorers Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin with old Ham-Eggs Rodriguez from Real Madrid, apparently on a free transfer. Add to that the existing threat of Walcott and Sigurdsson, and Albion may be forgiven for traipsing up to Merseyside with eyes firmly set on the historically-familiar Goodison goalless draw. Nothing wrong with that in my mind, as all we really need for now is to put last Sunday firmly behind us.

Famous fans: In the unlikely event of a win, the roll call of those who'll be crying into their toffee includes both Rocky Balboa and Ivan Drago - Stallone and Lundgren respectively - Dame Judi Dench, Helena Bonham-Carter, Shane MacGowan, the Singaporean Minister for Industry Chan Chun Sing, former Tesco CEO Sir Terence Leahy, John Parrott, John McEnroe, Tony Bellew, Derek Hatton, and some bloke who wrote a song about living on a lemon-coloured U-boat. A true rogue's gallery if ever there was one.

Remember this one well if Robinson's shot had gone in and not hit the post would have won this, as it was two lte goals saw me lose at Carrow Road for the first time. Quite like this place although getting home at 5.30 am from a night game is not a joy but itr had to be done.
Last meeting was a cup meeting earlier this year lost 4-2 after only starting at half time when 3 down. Idah scored a hat trick, he scored last week at Huddersfield.

PLAYERS IN FOR NORWICH
Hugill, Placheta, Dowell, Mumba, Sinani, Soto, Dennis, Skipp Gibson, Sorenson, Quintilla

They have recruited well although lost some players they have more than enough depth in squad to go close this season

MACS MEMORY

Won 2-1 I know I was there

First ever meeting was in November 1961 and they have beaten us 21 times and lost 17
In the space of 6 years in the 1980's we met them 8 times in the League Cup, City didn't lose once.

Very difficult game hopefully Alex will actually play people in the right positions, good news this is a test event for crowds so 1000 lucky sods will get the chance to see us.

WILLIAM CAPON ARTIST

Capon, whose father was also an artist, was born at Norwich on 6 December 1757,[1] and in early life practised as a portrait painter.[2]

Capon went to London, where he became an assistant to the architect and scene-painter Michael Novosielski,[1] and was employed on the decorations of Ranelagh Gardens and the Italian Opera-house. He was afterwards employed by John Kemble as scene painter for Drury Lane Theatre, which was rebuilt in 1794. In later years he became celebrated as an architectural draughtsman.[2] In the company of the antiquarian John Carter he recorded ancient buildings in Westminster, including some buildings which were scheduled to be demolished.[1] He was appointed Architectural Draughtsman to the Duke of York in June 1804.[1] He occasionally exhibited at the Royal Academy.[2]

He died at his home in North Street Westminster in 1827.

  Danny Whitaker

Now I know we are struggling just to survive, but Macclesfield have been liquidated. Sorry as we feel about that, we can't help them. We could, however, consider finding a post at Chesterfield for Danny Whitaker. He gave Macc years of loyal service, but he also showed us great loyalty too. He was an extremely popular and very important player for us. The most obvious thing about him was that he was a very clever player and I think there's a lot to learn from a former player like him.

I don't want to profit from Macclesfield's downfall. It simply would be a nice statement of intent from a club with a new attitude, to show its decency and in this instance both Danny and Chesterfield would benefit. I'm sure he isn't the type to rock Pembo's boat, and I'm pretty sure he'd like to help get us back to the EFL.

Wrong Place and Now No More
Posted by: Devongone - 17-09-2020, 12:53 - Forum: Macclesfield FC - No Replies

As the new season has started it hardly helps the site's credibility that the membership of various divisions has not been properly updated when the season is already going. Macclesfield shouldn't have been here, but now they are nowhere.

Sadly, not only were Macclesfield relegated as a disciplinary measure against the club, but also now as members of the National League they have been liquidated by the Courts. Like the Norwegian Blue and Bury, they are deceased and the blame is being heaped on owner Amar Alkadhi.

It is the worst end imaginable for a club with a long history. They have been signing staff and new players. Now all are jobless.

The National League will again be back to 23 teams, so there will obviously only be three relegation spots as it is too late to rejig lower divisions.

Macclesfield Town deserve a football club and a team. They don't have to be brilliant. They just have to find a way to take the name into the future.

  The Derbyshire Flag
Posted by: Devongone - 17-09-2020, 12:35 - Forum: Chesterfield - Replies (2)

Every new season we come up with a second strip, which whether it is attractive or not, is always meaningless. It doesn't say anything about us. So when fans buy a shirt they've a badge too distant to decipher and probably the name of a sponsor.

Now I'm thinking if we want to fly the flag for Derbyshire, why not design a second strip for the future that does exactly that. In my mind's eye I envisaged the dark green at the top half of the shirt and sleeves merging into the pale blue lower down. The shorts would also be pale blue. Trim on the shirt would be gold to pick up the rose at the centre of the flag, as would the socks which would topped in the dark green and pale blue. Nobody has anything quite like that. As a matchday shirt it would look great, even vaguely continental. Sellable. And it would mean something, if you really wanted to be posh you could have a small gold Derbyshire rose printed on the shorts (taking sensible note of the male anatomy!)

We are the blues, and should remain so, but maybe if we were a bit more commercial in our design, our second strip could be more adventurous. What do you think?

Saint Mirren 1 Celtic 2 - the Hoops move to 2nd place!

So Celtic register another victory in what turned out to be a tight match but wouldn't have been the case had Edouard not missed a pk in the 2nd half. Duffy scoring again as predicted in another thread that he'll thrive in this league plus 2 x Christie "assists". Another 3 pts gained and getting closer to Rangers top position in the Scot Prem.

LAST MATCH

We followed up our opening day win at Cardiff with another away win as we saw off Rochdale by he same 0-2 scoreline. Eleven changes were made with several of the young lads starting Brennan, Shaw & Hunt and Kachunga starting up front. We had most of the ball and both teams had a few chances but couldn't find the breakthrough. Onto the 2nd half and we took the lead from Palmer's cross and Kachunga headed his first goal for the club. We were creating alot of chances but couldn't find that second goal, until sub Windass finished from close range with a few minutes to go. Onto round 3 and Fulham or Ipswich await

THE MATCH

Our first home game of the season and Watford make the journey north. This lot were in the Premier League last season and will be hoping to bounce back at the first attempt, not an easy thing to do in the Championship. They are managed by Vladimir Ivic, from Serbis, who last managed Maccabi Tel Aviv. They still have some decent players, Troy Deeney, Chalobah to name two. They have won both games so far this season, Middlesbrough in the league and Oxford in the cup. We have had a few Watford players over the past few seasons, Pudil, FF and Abdi, with various productivity.

Bahrain and UAE now "friends" with Israel! Peace in the Middle East imminent?
Posted by: 0762 - 15-09-2020, 23:31 - Forum: Abstract Chat - No Replies

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2020/09/b...03968.html

So convenient for Trump (and the unpopular, corrupt Netanyahu for that matter!) in the run up to his possible re-election if enough American citizens are daft enough to be duped by this lunatic for a second time!! Peace in the Middle East then? I personally don't think so. Also both these nations have in fact been trading with Israel on good terms for years! And what about the poor old Palestinians who have more or less been "shat on" since the 1917 Balfour Declaration was formally brokered by western governments in the 1930s-40s - the rest is
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balfour_Declaration
history. Are they just "collateral damage" to the west in the greater scheme of things while Israel, "armed to the teeth" with Brit and American ordnance to kill Palestinians and anyone else who opposes them, rides roughshod even more in the occupied territories and settlements? Watch this space but don't be surprised at the status quo remaining untouched and nobody of any political standing doing any damn thing to change it for the better - all opposition suppressed, JOB DONE!!! However, that makes four Arab states that are in tow with Israel now. There are still many other Arab countries that do not agree with this stance.
