Hibs v Dundee United, Sat 19 December, KO 3.00pm
Posted by: 0762 - 17-12-2020, 19:01 - Forum: Hibernian - Replies (13)

This is a decent fixture for Hibs to follow on to after the exertions of Tuesday night in reaching the Betfred Cup semi-final - time to forget about that future Hampden confrontation v Saint Johnstone and fully focus on taking on the Tangerines and beating them. Lets keep this winning run "ticking over" and make it a good habit with another 3 pts "in the bag". I'm hoping Kevin Nisbet will be back up front alongside Doidgy but it may be too soon. Hibs defence needs no interference at the mo but should Gogic be given an "anchor role" in front of our CBs?? Hard to call but I'd opt to leave him out and stick with the positive mid formation that is attaining good results up front. C'mon Hibs!

So, first things first: the rotund figure emerging from the chimney at the Hawthorns has arrived a week earlier than expected, and naturally, not everyone's pleased to see him.  I think we can all join together in thanking Slaven Bilic for delivering a better-than-expected season last year, which probably fell victim in the end to its own early success, making promotion the unmissable target that we nearly *did* miss, and leaving us adrift in the Prem with a squad that's not really good enough and a first team who've floundered for months.  And so Sam Allardyce finally takes the seat he saw so much of as Brian Talbot's right-hand man, tasked with Keeping The Dream Alive some thirty years after he and Talbot were turfed out by Tim Buzaglo.

But although Sam-ta Claus Is Coming To Town, there's no guarantee of a Wonderful Christmastime for Albion.  (Incidentally, if you're already groaning at this point then you might want to spare yourself the next few paragraphs, because the puns really aren't going to get any better from here.)  On Sunday evening we'll have to Stop The Ca-Villa-ry (see, I told you) as Dean Smith brings his claret shower to the Hawthorns for the first time since their glorious 2019 shoot-out triumph over Albion's makeshift line-up of three centre-halves, a Subbuteo man and a dachshund that wandered onto the pitch by mistake.  They may have Decked The Holte With Boughs Of Ollie (Watkins), but if our star defender can manage a second goal in two games then he might just give some much-needed Ajayi To The World.  (No, the first one wasn't a City own goal, because... shut up.)

Then it's up to Anfield the day after Boxing Day for some Mistletoe & Wijnaldum.  (Look, stop complaining; I'm down to using Cliff Richard songs, none of us is exactly having a whale of a time here.)  After a rough start, Liverpool are now practically Walking In The Air, but if we can deliver the same kind of discipline we showed against City then there's a chance we might instead hear some Squawking From The Herr.  (Because Jurgen Klopp is German. So "Herr Klopp".  Keep up, FFS.)

Much as we might wish to Stay Another Day on Merseyside, we'll be Driving Home For Christmas two days later, as we're paid a visit at the Hawthorns by Bielsabub himself.  Leeds have been pretty solid this season, and will be dreaming of a White Christmas, but mix the Bing Crosby with a touch of Elvis and Christmas might just be Blue and White.

And finally, they may have the angel Gabriel in defence, but Arsenal have not been good boys this year.  In this Bleak Midwinter they've got good reason to cry O Come O Come Emmanuel Petit, or even As With Gladness Men Of Steve Bould; but a saviour to them has not yet been born.  And so they'll be travelling up to the Black Country the evening after New Year's Day for our first fixture of 2021, and with any luck, we'll take a cup of kindness then for Auld Aubameyang Syne.

So rather than continue with the leftover cracker jokes that were so bad even I rejected them (for the record, I'm typing this with a Villa squadlist beside me and "Mings Mongs Merrily On High" firmly crossed out), I'll take this opportunity to wish everyone a merry Christmas and a happy New Year, and let's hope that both treat us well.

Another investigation into Rangers business dealings???

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-s...s-55329475

A simple question to ask: "Is this just an innocent mistake or are they 'at it' again esp when one considers that RFC is still a Scot footie club with substantial debt attached to it"?

A good enough draw for me and I wonder if the match venue will be changed to Tynecastle Stadium just like the last semi-final v them that Hibs won 2-1 in front of a jam-packed Hibs support that day!!? I was there although chogged up with a rotten cold!! Unfortunately no Hibs fans can attend this time but BRING IT ON!!

Betfred Cup QF: St Mirren 3 Rangers 2 - another cup slips away from RFC!
Posted by: 0762 - 17-12-2020, 00:12 - Forum: St Mirren - Replies (3)

So the Buddies become the first Scot footie club to end the Govan club's unbeaten run and simultaneously deny them another chance to win a domestic trophy - still no significant domestic cups won yet since their return to the "top flight"!!
Also Jim Goodwin, who clearly stifled Tavernier's attacking contribution in a tactical sense, sent off for over-celebrating(????) Why does this happen in games v this particular footie club??????

  Supporter Engagement an Communications Strategy
Posted by: Devongone - 16-12-2020, 18:16 - Forum: Chesterfield - Replies (2)

If you haven't read it on our website then do. It is worth it.

Naturally I have criticisms. I believe in always adopting a critical standpoint. If stuff doesn't stand up to scrutiny it isn't worth much.

They could for instance have found a worse title had they trawled uninspiring Ph.D thesis titles throughout world history, but they'd have had their work cut out.

They might have produced a worse illustration of how it might work than the their blue triangle with supporters at the bottom beside a two headed arrow, but it would have taken several badly-blurred focus groups.

They might have engaged supporters more before producing the document to set the agenda themselves.

BUT these initiatives, which are rare as hen's teeth in professional sport in this country, have to come from somewhere. They are unlikely to emerge via a revolutionary tranche of working-class supporters developing their own manifesto. So the simple fact of the document's existence and the desire behind it to take that first step has to be applauded.

The great thing about it is that it has the power to become. It could become a sop for supporter dissatisfaction, a pretence at involvement in which supporters raise their voices and the club ploughs an entirely different furrow. We've consulted can be indistinguishable from copping a deaf ear. But here we are at the start of something. It isn't fully formed. It is words nicely joined together, nothing more. It does, however, have the potential, if those involved are really people of good faith to make Chesterfield Football Club very different from all its rivals.

So, yes I applaud it, but it is that phrase I've never understood, an envelope ....... that needs pushing. After long years in which every door to change has been closed and every decision, good or bad, has simply been foisted upon us, we see things opening up. Whether the authors realise the potential of their words doesn't really matter. Supporters simply need to keep following the logic of the idea. After all what follows engagement but marriage?

So our next game, oops sorry defeat, is Coventry at Hillsborough. Coventry are 18th in the table, a whopping 12points above our sorry selves. Definitely no recognizeable players in the Coventry squad, though they are managed by Mark Robins who played 15 times for us back around 2003-04. Not played these for a decade, but the last time w di we actually won 2-0, back in 2009. The Sky Blues will just be looking to stay up this season and then try and build next season, unlike us who will probably be on our way to league 2 Doh  Doh .
