Watford v The Owls SBC Match Thread

THE MATCH

FRIDAY 2ND APRIL 3:00PM

LAST MATCH

Well didn't see that happening, a win and in a Derby! Barnsley started brightly but we held firm and came into the game. Rhodes missed a chance but made up for it several minutes later heading in from Bannan's cross. We defended well for the rest of the half and went in one up. We went 2 up early in the 2nd half when Windass broke clear and squared for Rhodes who slotted in from 6 yards. We continued to defend well and it was only a deflected shot that Barnsley onto the scoreboard. Barnsley put some pressure on but we held out for the win.

THE MATCH

Next up and a trip to Watford. Probably not the best time to play them as they have won there last 5 games and currently lie in 2nd place with a six point gap to 3rd place, although have played a game more. Watford have some quality players, Hughes, Chalobah, Gosling, Deeney & Pedro. They look a good bet to go up, but this is the Championship, where strange things happen every Saturday.

HTAFC Prediction League 2020/21 Matchday 31 - Easter
Posted by: Lord Snooty - 28-03-2021, 14:23 - Forum: Huddersfield Town - Replies (15)

2 points for a correct result
4 points for a correct score
2 points for each correct scorer
Correct joker doubles your score   Laugh
Wrong joker result gives you minus 2
Correct Random Badger gives you 2 points Badger

The random badger Badger is used for any random prediction used once in each matchday sequence. For instance, a scorer at a particular match, the number of red cards in the matches or yellow cards or own goals or owt you want really within reason, I do need to be able to check whether it's correct or not. Please don't put stuff like....."Commentator says...."  Rolleyes
The joker  Laugh is played for one match in each sequence and if correct you get double points. So if you've predicted 1-0 and it finishes 2-0, you get 4 pts, but if you've predicted 2-0, that's 8 pts. But if you get it wrong, it's minus 2.
Jokers and badgers are optional. You don't have to play one if you don't want.

Cup games:
In the event of a draw, it's half the points if you've predicted a draw when it gets to 90 mins and the full points if it's still a draw after extra time. Half the points will be awarded for correctly predicting the winner of the match if it goes to penalties.

Random score generator: I will be using the random score generator again for those who miss predicting, so we shouldn't get some people too far behind that after missing a couple of weeks they lose all interest, because I know it's not easy getting on here every week.
To be fair to everybody, this is going to be like, say if three people in one week miss their predictions, the first one in the table will be given all 0-0, the second one down the line will get 1-0 and the third will get 0-1 and so on, like if there's four missing the 4th will get 1-1, then 5th 2-1, 6th 1-2. and if there are so many missing, might as well pack in. Wink
And if you miss two weeks on the trot, I'll stop until you come back on again. Not doing it for half a season like I did t'other year.  Rolleyes

France 23 Scotland 27 - 1st away win in well over 20 years!
Posted by: 0762 - 27-03-2021, 01:14 - Forum: Rugby Union - Replies (2)

In a great game of RU in Paris Scotland come out on top in dramatic fashion with Van de Merwe scoring a try in the 84th minute - WHAT A MATCH!! France lose out on pipping Wales to win the Six Nations Championship and that draws a close to another fairly exciting tourney in which I think Scotland did very well but actually could've done much better had it not been for some fateful negative moments in their matches v Ireland and Wales. Still there are definite signs of improvement and optimism for the future.

Next stop Tel Aviv - Israel v Scotland
Posted by: 0762 - 26-03-2021, 15:23 - Forum: The World Cup - Replies (6)

I must say this fixture is becoming a difficult one to predict and I reckon the main reason for that is the fact that Scotland don't score many goals in matches v Israel (or most other teams for that matter!) as both coaches and players have become familiar with what they are taking on in a tactical sense. We sadly don't have a true prolific scorer and that is a big miss TBF!! Israel lost 0-2 v a vg team, Denmark, in their opening group match. Scotland need to emulate that result in order to maintain a serious interest in this group. Fingers crossed that the guys "show up" and maintain good form - no slip ups like the last visit to Israel!!

  2021 Men's World Championships
Posted by: ritchiebaby - 26-03-2021, 14:57 - Forum: Winter sports - Replies (26)

This will be the first major Championship played after all sporting restrictions announced because of the pandemic. As would be expected the competitors and support staff will be living in a bubble at the WinArena in Calgary, Canada. They will be following strict Covid-19 protocols and there will be no spectators at the event. A few of the games are to be broadcast on Eurosport.

The competition starts on 2 April through to 11 April and the 14 teams taking part are Canada, China, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Netherlands, Norway, the Russian Curling Federation Team (RCF), Scotland, Sweden, Switzerland, and United States.

Following the 2-year anti-doping ban on Russia taking part in international curling, it has been determined that a Russian Curling Federation team qualify to play. They will not fly the Russian flag, not have the Russian anthem played and there will be no reference to the country during the event. This will also apply to the forthcoming Women's Championship, also to be played at the same venue under the same conditions. Hopefully the organisers will be stricter than they were previously.   Prediction League Results/Tables Week 24

Premier League

Player Pts CS CR GB BB SB
Bomber 20 2 4 10 -3 1
Themaclad 19 1 5 5 6 0
St Charles 16 1 3 5 6 1
Sanjay 15 1 5 5 -3 1
Snooty 15 1 3 5 3 1
A.A.A. 13 1 4 NP 3 0
Amelia 12 0 4 5 3 0
B.B.B. 10 1 3 5 -3 0
Derby 10 0 5 5 -3 0
Twerton 7 1 2 -3 3 1

Best week of scoring for a while in the PL, very much courtesy of a Gamball that amassed 42 points and a Man City win that saw 32 points in total!! Leading this week is our reigning Champion Bomber with 20 points and the only CS Gamball, amazingly he was late with his predictions and actually missed the first two games so his total could have been quite a bit more if he wasn't so bloody lazy!! Themaclad was a single point behind in 2nd spot with a CS Bonus boosting his score. Third place is filled by St Charles, he too had a CS Bonus and gained 16 points.

The next 6 players were separated by only 5 points with all of those that played the Gamball picking up points. Sanjay and Snooty maintain their good form with 15 points each. AAA finally put in a decent score with 13 and Amelia keeps adding decent weeks now with 12 this week. BBBs poor form in relation to the rest continues but at least both he and Derby managed to get into double figures with 10 points.

Twerton has the look of a defeated man at the moment, like Bomber he was late predicting so missed out on one game and he was also the only person to use the Gamball and predict a Villa win so lost a lot of points there!! While 7 points can sometimes see you mid-table , this week it sees him bottom of the pile.

BBB - 264
Sanjay - 237
St Charles - 224
Bomber - 211
Lord Snooty - 203
AAA - 198
Derby - 187
Amelia - 178
Themaclad - 162
Twerton - 134

No positional changes in the table this week but a few races are still tight. Sanjay and SCO inch closer to BBB but there is still a big gap. Bomber and Lord Snooty go past the 200 point barrier but Bomber stretches his lead over LS and is now only 13 points behind 3rd spot. AAA, Derby and Amelia are separated by only 20 points so all to play for with that Relegation PO spot . Themaclad will need a run of top 3 finishes if he is to close the gap but it is still doable. Twerton looks doomed!!

Cheers
SCO

Silver 18pts 3CS 4CR 10GB -3BB 1SB
Minizin 17pts 2CS 4CR 5GB 3BB 1SB

BaggieOne 13pts 1CS 4CR 10GB -3BB 0SB
DD 11pts 0CS 5CR 5GB -3BB 1SB
Zinman 10pts 0CS 4CR 0GB 3BB 1SB
Joker 0 No submission
Somerset 0 No submission

A pretty good week with everyone - at least everyone who got their predictions in - achieving double figures. The gamball helped, with everyone but Zinman scoring on it including 3 correct scores, though Stairs will regret choosing not to play it! 2 no shows and 1 late entry - only a few weeks to go now so stick with it to the bitter end guys!

Silver is turning out to be the league's yoyo - this was the 7th time he's topped the weekly table with 6 finishes at the bottom. Not exactly consistent! He only got 4 correct results but 3 of them were correct scores including the gamball to give him a 1 point advantage over our league leader Minizin. In contrast to Silver, Mini has only once finished top of the pile but has never been bottom. Mini is a rare player of the gamball but for the second week he played it and got the result correct as part of a full set of balls. Stairs secures 3rd spot from a week's best 6 correct results - if only he'd played the gamball for an extra 6 points!

Not much between the rest. Lady Jane had one of her better weeks after arriving late to the party, helped by a full set of balls. Baggie One scored a maximum from his gamball but lost out on his bonus while DD scored on 6 games but failed toget a score right. Zinman scrambled into double figures, grateful for his cowardice on the gamball (he never trusts that lot from Witton to do anything right).

Minizin 254
BaggieOne 220
Silver 219
Zinman 212
Stairs 208
DD 199
Joker 192
Somerset 192
Lady Jane 165

Not much change this week. As we approach the final weeks of the season, Minizin looks nailed on for promotion with a lead of 34 points. It gets a lot closer from then on with BaggieOne's hold on 2nd place down to just a single point following Silver's strong week. Zinman drops a place though remains in contention with Stairs not far behind.

DD, Joker and Somerset aren't yet out of it, but Lady Jane probably is!

A much needed week off for everyone. So rest up, stay safe and come back refreshed and ready for the final charge/stumble to the finish line.
