European Championships Prediction League 2021 Matchday 1
Posted by: Lord Snooty - 08-06-2021, 12:22 - Forum: The European Championship "The Euros" - Replies (35)

Who wants to take part in this then?

2 points for a correct result
4 points for a correct score
2 points for each correct scorer
Correct joker doubles your score   Laugh
Wrong joker result gives you minus 2
Only one joker per round of games

The format will be that everybody takes part for the first round games and the round of 16. I will compile the results into a table and then the top 8 will play off against each other for the quarter finals, semis and then the final. That will be 1st in the table v 8th placed etc.

So the first round of games will be.....

Friday 11th June:
Turkey v Italy (20:00)

Saturday 12th June:
Wales v Switzerland (14:00)
Wales scorers:

Denmark v Finland (17:00)
Belgium v Russia (20:00)

Sunday 13th June:
Austria v North Macedonia (17:00)
Netherlands v Ukraine (20:00)

England v Croatia (14:00)
England scorers:

Monday 14th June:
Scotland v Czech Republic (14:00)
Scotland scorers:

Poland v Slovakia (17:00)
Spain v Sweden (20:00)

Tuesday 15th June:
Hungary v Portugal (17:00)
France v Germany (20:00)

  Gone from Rodney Parade
Posted by: themaclad - 07-06-2021, 16:16 - Forum: Newport County - No Replies

Wales squad goalkeeper Tom King and Wales international midfielder Josh Sheehan will leave Newport County.

Sheehan and King played their last game for the Exiles in their 1-0 defeat in the League Two play-off final against Morecambe at Wembley.

Former Wales midfielder Joe Ledley is also leaving along with striker Ryan Taylor, but Scot Bennett is retained.

The Exiles have made their first summer signing after agreeing a two-year deal with Walsall defender Cameron Norman.

The 25-year-old centre-back was released by the Saddlers after two years in the West Midlands.

Mike Flynn's side hope to retain Joss Labadie, Lewis Collins, Liam Shephard, Mickey Demetriou and Ryan Haynes, who have all been offered new deals.

The Exiles say they "remain in dialogue," with out-of-contract players Aaron Lewis, Kevin Ellison, Robbie Willmott and Tristan Abrahams.

Ashley Baker, Corey Whitely, Daniel Leadbitter, David Longe-King, Jack Evans, Kyle Howkins, Ledley, Sheehan, Taylor and King have all been released.

Newport would have loved to have kept Sheehan, who made his Wales debut this season, but say he is leaving "to pursue an opportunity elsewhere."

Sheehan, 26, is being heavily linked with a move to League One side Bolton Wanderers.

Goalkeeper King this season set a new world record for the longest goal scored in competitive football.

The 26-year-old scored from 96 metres as the Exiles drew 1-1 at Cheltenham Town in January.

However, he departs with the club having already agreed a new deal with goalkeeper Nick Townsend.

Dom Telford, Matt Dolan, Padraig Amond and Priestley Farquharson all remain in contract for another year, as does defender Bennett after Newport took their option to extend his deal.

Scholars Joe Woodiwiss, Lewys Twamley and Ryan Hillier have been offered professional deals by Newport, while loanees Anthony Hartigan, Jake Scrimshaw, Luke Gambin and Nicky Maynard depart.

  Robinson
Posted by: themaclad - 07-06-2021, 16:09 - Forum: Morecambe - No Replies

Morecambe FC is delighted to announce the appointment of Stephen Robinson as first team manager.

The 46-year-old joins the club on a three year deal after spending a successful three and a half years at Motherwell, leading the Steelmen to two Cup finals in one season and a top three finish which also brought Europa League football to the club.

Robinson made 448 appearances during his playing career and had spells with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, AFC Bournemouth, Preston North End and Luton Town before hanging up his boots in 2008. He also played seven times for the Northern Ireland national team.

He first joined Motherwell as their assistant manager six years ago under Ian Baraclough and also held the same role with the Northern Ireland national team alongside that.

After a spell as manager at Oldham Athletic he returned to Motherwell before taking over as boss.

Stephen said: "I am delighted to have agreed to become the manager of Morecambe FC and I am really looking forward to the challenge ahead.

"I have been very impressed with the club and everyone involved in the process. We are looking to build on last season's successful promotion campaign and look to firmly establish the club in league One.

"There is a lot of work in terms of recruitment in the coming weeks and getting us prepared for the club's first season in League One.''

Morecambe joint chairman, Rod Taylor said: "We are delighted that Stephen has agreed to join us for our first season in League One.

"We had a number of quality applicants but we were especially impressed by Stephen's dynamism, his plans for the club and his contacts and we believe he will take the club forward.

"He has an excellent reputation and we are looking forward to working with him as we plan for an historic season.''

Fellow Joint Chairman, Graham Howse, added: "We went on record that we wanted to move quickly on this appointment and we have every confidence in Stephen putting a strong squad together for life in League One.''

John McMahon will remain as the club's assistant manager with former Shrimps striker Diarmuid O'Carroll returning to the club as first team coach after working with Robinson successfully at Motherwell.

Luxembourg 0 Scotland 1 - a decent workout but too many scorned goal opps!
Posted by: 0762 - 06-06-2021, 20:41 - Forum: The European Championship "The Euros" - Replies (12)

As expected, Scotland dominating this match for long periods and Che Adams scoring a decent goal in the 1st half to give us a deserved lead. Then an added bonus on 34 mins - Siminovic sent off and Luxembourg down to ten players for the rest of the game. The "floodgates" should've opened up with lotsa goals for Scotland had Che Adams and Dykes decided to "follow the scoring script". They didn't!! Adams should've bagged a "hat trick" on the hour mark and Dykes should've scored with two easy headers. Also McTominay just cannae score for Scotland - another "peach of a cross ball" to his napper and couldn't score from about 6 yards!!Thumb down I hope this kinda poor scoring prowess doesn't continue into the matches that matter v Czechoslovakia, England and Croatia. Chelsea's Billy Gilmour on for the second half and didn't disappoint with a splendid display of midfield skill until a Luxembourg player came off the subs' bench and absolutely "nailed him" in a disgraceful challenge for all to see - a red card, indeed a double red card to easily mete out by the match referee but amazingly he didn't do his job of protecting players from this type of footie thuggery. Gilmour immediately replaced but thankfully more of a precaution from the team doctor. But a lucky laddie not to be badly injured. That's two Scotland matches where the assigned match refs have been rank rotten with their decision-making - a mystifying free kick to The Netherlands, in the previous friendly international match, thereby giving the Dutch side a chance to equalise in the dying mins and duly taken by Depay. I hope this isn't a "flavour of things to come" in the important upcoming Euro matches.

Posted by: themaclad - 04-06-2021, 14:39 - Forum: Bradford City - Replies (1)

Bradford City have appointed former Morecambe boss Derek Adams as their new manager on a three-year contract.

The 45-year-old led the Shrimps to promotion to League One, but left the Lancashire side on Thursday.

The Scot replaces Conor Sellars and Mark Trueman, who were relieved of their first-team duties in May.

"This a fantastic football club to come to and we have a big opportunity to try and earn promotion," Adams told the club website.

"We want to be a team that plays on the front foot and excites people when they come here. Hopefully, next season, we can get the supporters back to Valley Parade and have the place bouncing.

"Throughout my managerial career, it has always important to win, gain promotions and find yourselves in a higher position than you were the previous season.

"We all know Bradford City finished in the bottom half of the table last year. Now, we will aim to be in the promotion picture. That is what I am here to do."

Adams has previously managed Ross County and Plymouth, winning promotion with both.

He led Morecambe to fourth in League Two last season before guiding them up to the third tier for the first time in their history with victory over Newport in Monday's play-off final.

Bradford finished 15th in the fourth tier in 2020-21 after winning just one of their final nine matches.

  No starring roles next season
Posted by: themaclad - 02-06-2021, 20:08 - Forum: Wrexham - No Replies

Midfielder Mark Carrington is one of eight players released by Wrexham.

The 34-year-old was the National League club's longest-serving player, having arrived at the Racecourse Ground in September 2013.

Bobby Grant, Jay Harris, James Horsfield, Fiacre Kelleher, Paul Rutherford, Chris Sang and Theo Vassell are the other players to depart.

They follow manager Dean Keates out the door after his contract was not renewed.

A club statement said: "Wrexham AFC would like to place on record its thanks to the players who are leaving us for their efforts and commitment during the previous season and throughout their time at the Racecourse, and wish them well for their future careers."

Wrexham failed to make the play-offs this season after a final-day draw at Dagenham & Redbridge saw the Dragons drop out of the top seven.

The club has responded by appointing the vastly experienced Les Reed to the board.

Wrexham have offered new contracts to Christian Dibble, Cameron Green, Reece Hall-Johnson, Rob Lainton, Shaun Pearson, Jamie Reckord, Devonte Redmond and Luke Young.

The remainder of the squad is either still under contract, or have had a contract extension option exercised.

Keanu Marsh-Brown, Gold Omotayo and Dawid Szczepaniak have been invited to return for pre-season training, while Kwame Thomas will be offered the opportunity to earn a permanent contract having ruptured his Achilles tendon in April.
