Championship-bound Norwich City have signed midfielder Isaac Hayden from Newcastle United on loan for the 2022-23 season.
The Canaries will then have an obligation to make the deal permanent depending on "performance-related criteria" during the next campaign.
Hayden said he had signed to "help the team get back to the Premier League" following their relegation this term.
The 27-year-old has played 161 times for Newcastle since joining in 2016.
He played 14 times in the Premier League last season, scoring in the 1-1 draw at Brighton in November.
Hayden was also part of the Magpies squad that won the Championship title in 2016-17.
"I am absolutely delighted. This is a fantastic club. Everything is well run, it has got a good infrastructure and the stadium and the fan base is great," Hayden, who becomes head coach Dean Smith's first recruit of the summer, said.
"The head coach was a big factor for me. He called me straight away and saw that I was out of the picture at Newcastle. I had spoken to him a few times before and he always struck me as somebody who was trying to do the right things and doing things very well at football clubs."

Ben Garner has left Swindon Town to take over as the new Charlton Athletic manager.
The 42-year-old has signed a three-year contract at The Valley.
Garner's Robins lost to Port Vale in the League Two play-off semi-finals this season and were the league's top scorers.
The Addicks have been without a manager since Johnnie Jackson left the club on 3 May.
"It feels fantastic to be here. I'm really pleased and can't wait to get going," Garner told Charlton's website.
"Charlton is a massive football club, both in terms of history and tradition and just as importantly in terms of potential and scope looking forwards."
Charlton began the season with Nigel Adkins at the helm but won only two of their first 13 games before the former Southampton boss was sacked in October.
Former Addicks player Jackson was placed in temporary charge before being handed the permanent job in December after 10 games at the helm.
However, Jackson left the club after a 13th-place finish in League One.
Charlton say Garner "will focus on getting the Addicks playing attacking football".
"Attacking football is what I believe in, that is how I think football should be played and I will be looking to implement that from day one, both home and away," Garner said.
"We want to have the ball as much as possible, creating chances, scoring goals and being on the front foot, playing with lots of energy without the ball.
"I want the team to be positive and confident. I want the fans to enjoy coming to watch us play."
Charlton owner Thomas Sandgaard said: "We are obviously striving for a much better season.
"We will have the best chance of success by creating more chances and scoring more goals than we did last season. Ben's track record for playing attacking football matches that."
Garner is due to link up with his players for pre-season training next Thursday.

He never had money, total wide boy, word is Rooney paid the wages last month
Chris Kirchner's attempt to buy financially stricken club Derby County is in danger of collapsing, despite the American insisting the takeover will happen.
The businessman was named as preferred bidder to take the club out of administration on 6 April.
BBC Sport has been told Kirchner expects the deal to be done today.
BBC Radio Derby reports that funds promised by the 34-year-old to pay the Rams' wages for May have not arrived.
Those wages are understood to have been paid by someone else close to the club.
The English Football League conditionally approved the takeover when contracts for the sale of the club had been exchanged on 17 May.
At the time, the EFL said "the terms of a Membership Agreement" had been agreed with the American's 9CK Sports Holdings Limited company to allow the sale of the club.
Derby's administrators Quantuma had said the takeover was conditional on the sale of Derby's Pride Park home ground, which is still owned by former majority shareholder Mel Morris.
Meetings between Kirchner, his representatives, Morris and Derby City Council, who have said they were exploring options to buy the ground, have failed to resolve the issue.
Derby, the EFL and Quantuma are yet to comment on the latest developments.
Report
If the deal does fall through, it will be the second time an attempt by Kirchner to buy the club has failed.
An initial bid was withdrawn in December before the American revived his interest in April after an attempt to buy Derby's then-Championship rivals Preston North End collapsed just days earlier.
It is understood that former Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley, whose company Sports Direct is based in Derbyshire, has remained interested in buying the Rams throughout.
Delays in selling Derby plunges the club's immediate future into serious doubt, with the Rams facing their first season in England's third division since 1986 after Wayne Rooney's side were relegated from the Championship at the end of the 2021-22 campaign.
Restrictions placed on the club while in administration has left manager Rooney unable to sign new players, nor able to offer fresh deals to those he already has.
Just five first-team players - Krystian Bielik, Max Bird, Jason Knight, Louie Sibley and Jack Stretton - have contracts for next season.
Rooney, England and Manchester United's all-time leading goalscorer, has previously said that his own future at the club was dependent on the prompt sale of the club at the end of the season.
How did Derby get into this situation?
2 April 2019: Derby report a pre-tax profit of £14.6m - the club's first in 10 years - but only after selling their Pride Park stadium to owner Mel Morris for £80m.
27 May 2019: Derby are beaten 2-1 by Aston Villa in the Championship play-off final, a game described by sports finance expert Dr Rob Wilson as "last roll of the dice sort of stuff" for both sides.
16 January 2020: Derby charged by EFL for a breach of spending rules, relating to losses in the three years up to June 2018. The charges are dismissed in August.
7 September 2020: EFL appeals against the decision to clear Derby of breaching spending rules, particularly with regard to how the Rams measured the value of players.
17 March 2021: Morris calls off proposed sale of Derby to Derventio Holdings, owned by the Bin Zayed Group, four-and-a-half months after talks had begun.
8 May 2021: Derby avoid relegation from the Championship on the final day of the season, with a draw against Sheffield Wednesday. Wycombe go down by a point.
14 May 2021: Proposed takeover by Spaniard Erik Alonso is called off.
24 June 2021: Derby are fined £100,000 over some of their accounting polices, with the EFL developing an interchangeable fixture list in the Championship for the Rams and Wycombe pending any appeal about the punishment.
22 September 2021: Derby are placed into administration, triggering a 12-point deduction by the EFL.
16 November 2021: Derby are docked a further nine points for breaches of EFL accounting rules.
24 December 2021: US businessman Chris Kirchner withdraws his interest in taking over Derby, having first declared his interest in October.
27 January 2022: A deadline to show how Derby will be funded is extended by a month by the EFL, a week after the league had demanded that administrators Quantuma provide proof.
30 January 2022: Fans hold a protest march to try to help force the sale of the club.
11 February: Derby and Middlesbrough reach a "resolution" over a compensation claim brought against the Rams which had complicated takeover attempts.
3 March 2022: Administrators provide forecasts showing "sufficient cash" is available to finish the season.
10 March 2022: The US-based Binnie family end takeover discussions after submitting an offer for the club in January.
1 April 2022: Rooney admits his future as Rams boss in uncertain as administrators are further delayed in efforts to name a preferred bidder.
6 April 2022: Kirchner is confirmed as preferred bidder after reviving interest in the club just days earlier.
18 April 2022: Derby are consigned to play in England third tier for the first time since 1986 next season after defeat by QPR seals their Championship relegation.
5 May 2022: The EFL single out issues with buying Pride Park from Derby's former owner Mel Morris as a "hurdle" in Kirchner's attempted takeover.
9 May 2022: Kirchner's period of exclusivity as preferred bidder to buy the Rams is extended to allow extra time to complete the deal.
17 May 2022: Derby's administrators exchange contracts for the sale of the club with Kirchner. The sale is targeted for 31 May or before.

League Two champions Forest Green Rovers have signed full-back Corey O'Keeffe from Rochdale.
The 24-year-old initially joined the Dale on loan from Mansfield at the start of last season, before making the move permanent in January.
He made 43 league appearances last term as Rochdale finished 18th.
O'Keeffe becomes Forest Green's first signing of the summer as the club prepares for its maiden season in League One.
"We played against Rochdale twice with Notts County in the FA Cup and Corey was the stand-out player in both games," said Forest Green head coach Ian Burchnall.
Forest Green Rovers have signed Torquay United midfielder Armani Little on a two-year-contract.
The 25-year-old scored 15 goals in 38 appearances for the Gulls as they finished 11th in the National League.
"This place has a real buzz about it off the back of last season and I can't wait to get involved," he told the club's website.
Forest Green usurped Exeter City to win League Two on a dramatic final day of the season.
A 2-2 draw coupled with Exeter's loss to Port Vale ensured Rovers were promoted to League One as champions.
Little began his career at Oxford United and spent two loan spells at Woking before moving to Torquay in 2019.

AFC Wimbledon have signed defender Alex Pearce on a free transfer.
The 33-year-old was a free agent after being released by Championship side Millwall, where his contract expires this summer.
Pearce began his career at Reading and went on to make 239 first-team appearances for the Royals before moving to Derby County and then, in 2019, to Millwall.
This season the centre-back featured nine times for the Lions.
Pearce said: "It's a family club and I think that's going to be vital - that we all pull in the same direction.
"We need to all come together as a unit - as fans, players and staff, everyone together."

So RFC being accused of price fixing and effectively "ripping off" their own fans with higher than normal kit prices. Noticeable that their officials are not denying the conclusion of this investigation and looks like the club will be hit by a massive fine. I've previously commented there are criminal elements working within this toxic footie club and that view has not changed one jot. This story just confirms one instance of this kinda dodgy dealing.

Crawley Town have appointed Arsenal Under-23s boss Kevin Betsy as their new manager on an initial two-year deal.
The 44-year-old replaces John Yems, who left the League Two club last month following racism and discriminatory conduct allegations.
Betsy began his coaching career with Fulham and then took charge of England age-group sides up to under-18s.
He joined Arsenal last summer and guided their academy side to a third-placed finish in Premier League 2.
Dan Micciche, who previously had a spell of less than three months as MK Dons manager, will also move to the People's Pension Stadium as Betsy's assistant - leaving his position as under-18s head coach with the Gunners.
Crawley were taken over by US cryptocurrency investors WAGMI United LLC two months ago, led by co-founders Preston Johnson and Eben Smith.
They soon became involved in the Yems case following what the club described as"serious and credible" accusations by players, leading to an ongoing Football Association investigation. Yems has declined to comment on the matter.
Following his appointment, Betsy said: "I am joining a club that has a great history that we should no doubt embrace, and we are also looking at an exciting new beginning on many levels both on and off the pitch.
"I was very impressed with Eben and Preston's vision for the club. Following discussions, l knew I would be working for bright and genuine people that share the positivity and energy to take this club forward."
Betsy began and ended his playing career at Woking, and in between had spells at clubs including Fulham, Barnsley, Bristol City, Southend and Wycombe Wanderers.
Crawley have confirmed that Lewis Young, who was assistant to Yems and had been in interim charge since his departure, will stay as part of Betsy's coaching staff.
Arsenal academy manager Per Mertersacker said: "We're grateful for the work Kevin and Dan have done to manage and develop our Under-23s and Under-18s.
"Both have shown outstanding coaching ability so it's no surprise they're heading into first-team management in the EFL. This is a great opportunity for them."

Woking midfielder Jermaine Anderson has signed a new one-year contract at the National League club.
The 26-year-old has made 16 appearances since joining the Cards in December last year.
Woking finished the season 15th in the league on 53 points.
Anderson played in the Football League for Peterborough United and Bradford City before moving to Aldershot Town in December 2020.
"Jermaine is a really interesting one to me because I saw him play at such a young age at such a high level and he has been extremely unfortunate over the years with injury," manager Darren Sarll told the club's website.
"I still feel and don't believe we should be giving up on the potential that Jermaine has always had. He is a player of immense physicality, a super athlete, and a good technician.
"I think if he can carry on working to his strengths, which I believe are his power and his pace, then we still have a Football League player within our squad."
