Former Burnley chairman Mike Garlick has completed his takeover of Cheltenham Town.
The 61-year-old entered a period of exclusivity with the League Two side in June and has now "completed his acquisition of a controlling interest in the club combined with a commitment for future investment".
Garlick told the club's website, external: "I met some of the board members back in May and visited the stadium and training ground. From that moment on I knew this was the club I wanted to be part of.
"I believe firmly in evolution rather than revolution and step-by-step we will seek to drive the club forward both on and off the pitch, whilst remaining firmly rooted in our local community and loyal fan base."
Garlick spent 17 years on the board at Turf Moor before he left in 2023, including eight as club chairman during which the Clarets twice won promotion to the Premier League.
He also owns Gibraltar top-flight club St Joseph's and third tier Spanish side FC Antequera.
Garlick and his wife Alison will now join the Cheltenham board.
Meanwhile, John Murphy has retired from the board but will become the club's honorary president for a five-year term.
Chairman David Bloxham explained that the club have been operating with "financial and practical restraints" and that it "has been a source of frustration that we have been unable to undertake significant improvements to facilities and infrastructure or retain our best staff".
Bloxham added: "Mike Garlick brings with him a great deal of football knowledge and experience which I am confident will bring significant benefits and growth to our club."
Cheltenham confirmed last October that they were looking for "substantial" new investment with three of their four biggest shareholders willing to sell their stakes in the club.
The Robins had been owned by an array of shareholders, with the supporter-led Robins Trust having the third largest stake at 16% as of March 2024.
The Trust retain their share as the second-largest shareholders.
The rest of the ownership remains split between a large number of minor investors. However unlike other clubs, the board of directors - appointed by the shareholders - run the club rather than the owners.
Cheltenham finished 15th in League Two in 2024-25, with 15th in League One achieved in 2021-22 - their highest-ever finish in the English Football League.
Michael Flynn's side are currently bottom of League Two, without a point from their opening four games, going into Saturday's visit of Barnet.

Seconds out, round 2
The 2nd round of the Caribooboo sees us take on Regis Le Bris' Sunderland mob.
No doubt, having achieved promotion to the League of the Entitled, they'll think they're the Black Cats who got the cream. It's up to us to bring them down a peg or two.
As I write this on Saturday, they're 7th in the aforementioned Big Knobs League and we're 2nd in Lil Ol' League One. This, of course, is their entry into the competition. We came through Round 1 relatively unscathed, despite the penalty shoot out against the Foxes. Don't mess with the Terriers in a penalty shoot out.
Will Lee Connell (or Lee Nicholls as you like to call him) start in goal again?
Did I hear you ask "who is Regis Le Bris?"
Well, he's a former defender, born in Pont-L'Abbe (just a wild guess but I'd say there's a bridge and an abbey), France. He played in Rennes, Laval, and Ronse in France. He then managed Lorient (not Leyton Orient as I first read it ) in France. Then he was appointed by Sunderland in 2024. Who'd take on an unknown entity from a foreign land?
Here he is auditioning for a role in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream or All's Well That Ends Well. Hopefully, it won't be a dream and it won't end well.
As far as the League Cup goes, they were runners-up in 1985 and 2014.
However, it deserves a mention that they have won the FA Cup twice; the 2nd time in 1973. This being good because they beat our friends, Leeds Urinals. Have I told you before that the headmaster at my school got us to make Huddersfield Town rosettes for the final?
Head to Head
As you see, we're 4-1 up in League Cup ties.
The first meeting in 1991/92, we beat them 6-1 on aggregate over 2 legs.
in 1992/92, we drew 3-3 on aggregate but went through on the away goals rule.
By the last meeting in 2003, it was played over 1 leg at the Stadium of Light and we won 4-2.
So... we have knocked them out 3 times and each time they were in a higher division.
A club connection
Although American by birth, Lynden Gooch having played with the Santa Cruz County Breakers Academy, he was spotted by Sunderland. From 10 years old, he was travelling to train with them in the summer holidays. At 16, he got a scholarship with them and by 2015 he had a contract. He did have loan spells in 2015 and 2016 but remained with Sunderland until 2023, joining Stoke and then us two years later. This would explain his comment to Connell (Nicholls) after the Leicester tie that he can go home now. He would look at it as home having been there for 11 years plus some before that. He helped them gain promotion to the Championship.
AWAY THE TERRIERS!

A fortnight in, the table is an interesting and unexpectedly welcome sight as Albion join Middlesbrough and Stoke as the only three teams with six points on the board. Of course, there's still plenty of time and scope for things to go Albionically wrong, as they did after a similar start this time last year, but for now we can enjoy the ride, and hope it gets better still with the visit of Portsmouth to the Hawthorns tomorrow.
Pompey, of course, continue to be winless in West Bromwich since 1998, though they're unbeaten in their last three awaydays and emerged victorious from two of them. The fecund goalscoring form of Isaac Price will be crucial to the Baggies in this encounter, while Portsmouth are without captain Marlon Pack, Callum Lang and Harvey Blair. On paper, we have to look to make it nine points out of nine this weekend, and though reality always tends to delight in micturating on our best-laid plans from an exceptionally lofty altitude, there's no doubt after the first fortnight that Mason and the boys are capable of getting the job done.

The boys from Suffolk return to Deepdale after a one year absence, the last two times we played them we lost 4-2 at Portman Road and won an epic clash at Deepdale 3-2, just about hanging on after being 3 up at half time.
Didn't have the best of season in the money league, however possibly have a good chance of going back there again next season.

MANAGER
Kieran McKenna (born 14 May 1986) is a professional football manager and former player who is the manager of EFL Championship club Ipswich Town.
Born in England, McKenna was raised in Northern Ireland and played youth football for Enniskillen Town United and Ballinamallard United before joining Tottenham Hotspur in 2002, and had represented Northern Ireland at youth level before a hip injury curtailed his playing career.
After studying sports science at Loughborough University, McKenna coached Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United at under-18 level, and also worked as a first-team coach and assistant manager at Manchester United before being appointed as manager of Ipswich Town in 2021.

Team News
Daniel Jebbison and Mads Frøkjær are being given a chance to return for this fixture, however manager Paul Heckingbottom said they will not be risked if they’re “touch and go”.
PNE are still without a number of first team players, including Brad Potts, Jordan Thompson and Robbie Brady, who are all yet to feature this season.
After such a positive performance last time out against Leicester, it’ll be interesting to see what changes, if any, the gaffer chooses to make on Saturday.
The Visitors
Ipswich Town have made a steady return to life in the second tier following their relegation from the Premier League, having drawn their opening two fixtures against fellow promotion contenders Birmingham City and Southampton.
The Tractor Boys have gone from strength to strength under Kieran McKenna, achieving successive promotions in 2022/23 and 2023/24, although fell short in the top flight.
While they’ve lost a couple of their key men from the previous campaign – the likes of Liam Delap and Omari Hutchinson – their squad still looks well capable of another promotion push, and they’ll be hoping to add to their ranks before the end of the window, too.
Match Officials
Referee: Matthew Donohue
Assistant Referees: Andrew Fox and Jacob Graham
Fourth Official: Dale Baines
Matthew Donohue, who took charge of five PNE fixtures last season, will be the man in the middle on Saturday.
The referee last officiated North End in the final home match of the 2024/25 campaign, against Plymouth Argyle.
Matt likes a red card usually against us
THE BOSS
This Wednesday marked a year in charge for Paul Heckingbottom and he feels the side are in a better place than when he first took over, although the manager feels there’s still areas they can improve.
It seems a long time ago that Hecky and Stuart McCall took charge of their first game – a 1-0 victory over Luton Town – and a year later, they’re getting ready for the visit of Ipswich Town.
Hecky said: “It has gone quick, definitely. It does fly when you're working. The seasons roll into one, if you like.
“Are we in a better place? Yeah, I think so. We are in lots of ways, but there's lots of ways where we still want to improve and make sure we do better.
“So, for example, I've been really pleased with what we've done in the transfer market so far, but in my eyes, we've still got a lot more to do. You see that. Last year we had more bodies than we've got now. I think we need more numbers because we're behind on what we were last year.
“But you don't want to do that at the expense of quality. I think for me, the last few players we bring in need to be at a level where we can feel the improvement, we can feel the value. Do you know what I mean? Not just collect them because we need an extra body. I’m pleased with the way things have gone so far this window but there's still more to do.”
Those numbers which the manager talks about haven’t been helped by an injury list longer than he’d have liked.
Some what you’d call key players have been missing at the start of the campaign, and the manager is hoping to see one or two return this weekend.
Hecky said: “I would like a couple of them back. Obviously, say if you get to the Portsmouth game [next Saturday] and they’re touch and go then you're taking a big risk when they've been out for so long.
“I think it's always better to err on the side of caution then give them that extra couple of weeks and train, when they've been muscle injuries in particular.
“But I'm hoping it doesn’t come to that. Jebbo (Daniel Jebbison) is not far away now, potentially this weekend, again without risking him. Mads (Frøkjær) is probably similar. They’re back and fit and ready when they are, you know, there's nothing we can do about that.”
There’s plenty of positivity in the North End camp following last weekend’s 2-1 victory over Leicester City, and Saturday sees another relegated side come to Deepdale.
Ipswich Town have made a steady start to life back in the second tier with two draws so far and they’re very much expected to be right up there come the end of the campaign.
Hecky said: “It's difficult because I never want to say too much because if I'm really honest here now, people say I’m disrespectful towards certain teams and others, but Ipswich have got different strengths in my eyes.
“Things that we got away with against Leicester at the weekend, I don't think we'll get away with them against Ipswich and likewise things that we really had to focus on to stop against Leicester are less important against Ipswich in my eyes.
“I think we just have to focus on taking that tactical element into account. I think we just have to focus on ourselves and delivering the same intensity of performance, the same mentality and approach to the game. If we do that, I'm always happy with us anyway.”
MACS VIEW
Good start, excellent last week, another tough game on Saturday, with a front three of Billie Jean(Take your time), Hirst and Clarke with Sammy playing in the hole, that is a cracking attacking line up. If they have a 16 year old wonder kid to bring on, we could struggle.
Personal view only one change Offiah for Pol, suspect Clarke may have a field day aginst our Spaniard

Huddersfield Town v Stevenage
The Sky Bet Championship
Saturday August 23rd - 15:00 ko
at Kirklees Stadium
![[Image: on4cS0a.jpeg]](https://i.imgur.com/on4cS0a.jpeg)
Huddersfield Town welcome Stevenage to the Kevin Nagle Arena on Saturday afternoon for an exciting, enthralling, exhilarating hour and a half of League One football.
We have never been beaten by Stevenage in the many, many meetings we've had over time, but they come to the Accu Stadium this time, as league leaders, with a 100% winning record. Not only that, they have League One's leading scorer as well. That's Jamie Reid with five goals in four matches. He's a Torquay born Northern Ireland international, who as the man in form, ought to be picked ahead of the non scoring, Preston born Northern Ireland international, Dion Charles. That's up to Michael O'Neil, not me, but as always, I'm giving him pelters in the hope that he'll finally get his name on the score sheet.
Manager Lee Grant has said that there are no new injuries after the win over Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday, so that's a good sign going into this one and something recent previous managers never had the luxury of.
Come on Town.....
A brief history of Stevenage FC: formed in 1976 as Stevenage Borough, they joined the United Counties League and just kept on climbing the non league pyramid, reaching the Conference (now National League) by 1994. They would've gone up into the Fotball League in 1996, but after winning the Conference, they were denied because their ground didn't pass FL standards.
The Boro started playing their home games at King George V playing fields in the town, but this was only after plans tomove into Broadhall Way were scuppered. The club had been formed after Broadhall Way's previous occupants had gone bust and so instead of supporting a new football club, the local council sold the land to a local businessman, who dug a massive trench across the pitch to stop any games taking place.
They did eventually move in in 1980, but as just stated, it wasn't up to scratch. But by 2010, it was. And so by winning the Conference again that season, they were promoted to League Two. This was under the management of Graham Westley and following a rebranding, where they dropped the Borough to become known as just Stevenage FC, they went up again, via the Play Offs.
They'd finished 6th in League One and after beating Accrington Stanley 3-0 on aggregate, they then beat Torquay United 1-0 at Wembley with John Mousinho writing his name in Stevenage legend.
They almost went up in the next season, making it to the Play Offs again. They played Sheffiled Utd in the 2011 semis, unluckily losing 1-0 on aggregate, to a very late goal at Brammal Lane.
Stevenage didn't kick on from there though and suffered a relegation, sending them back down the snakes n ladders board all the way back to League Two. They did make the Play Offs again in League Two, but got beaten in the semis by Southend Utd.
They had a brief spell in the media headlights when they took on a celebrity manager, Teddy Sheringham, but that didn't last long, with Westley coming and going in between others and was by 2020, in his 4th spell as boss.
It was Steve Evans though who eventually got them back into League One, finishing as runners up to Leyton Orient at the end of the 2022/23 season. That season saw them have their most famous victory as well, winning at Villa Park against the might of the Premier League's Aston Villa. After being a goal down for most of the match, they equalised in the 88th minute through a Jamie Reid penalty, then won it in the 90th with Dean Campbell grabbing the winner.

Head to Head
![[Image: LsFdjT2.jpeg]](https://i.imgur.com/LsFdjT2.jpeg)
Town lead the head to head with 3 win to Stevenage's 0, with 1 draw.
Only four games to report on then.
Danny Ward played in three of them. He was a young man back then in the 2011/12 season. The first of them was played at our place in October and we won it 2-1. Gary Roberts scored just before half time, before Scott Laird equalised in the 67th minute. Not to worry though, nine minutes later, super Lee Novak scored the winner to give Lee Clark and his players the three points.
That's not the end of it though. Stevenage were awarded and missed a penalty in added on time and the two bosses, Clark and Graham Westley, who had been sniping at each other throughout the game, confronted each other at the final whistle. Mind the handbags, gentlemen.
There was a crowd of 12,890 in the Galpharm Stadium on a Saturday afternoon for this one, which was game number 37 in our famous unbeaten run.
A smaller crowd of 3,059 were at the Lamex Stadium on a Tuesday night for the return match, which was the second game for our new Head Coach, Simon Grayson. There was a new name in the home dugout as well. Gary Smith had taken over a month earlier. This game was played midweek because the Boro had an FA Cup game on the original date. They played Tottenham Hotspur at home in the fifth round and drew 0-0, before losing the replay 3-1, a week after they played us.
Our game was goal less at half time, but then ten minutes after the break we were two up through Wardy and Novak. However, Michael Bostwick and Robin Shroot scored goals late on to give us yet another draw. The unbeaten run had gone by this stage though.
Both clubs went on to reach the Play Offs that season. Stevenage finished 6th and we finished 4th. We played MK Dons and beat them 3-2 on aggregate. They played Sheffield United and lost out 1-0 on aggregate to a late goal in the 2nd leg at Bramall Lane.
So thirteen seasons later, we met up again. Wardy played in the first game last season, which was match number two and our first home game in League One since 2012. He'd scored in the League Cup win over Morecambe a few nights before, but didn't get on the score sheet in this one. We did win it though, with goals from Josh Koroma and Ben Wiles, before Stevenage got a very late consolation from the penalty spot from Harvey White.
We went down there and did the double over them in March. We were looking certainties for the Play Offs at that stage of the season and this win just strengthened that expectation. However, it turned out to be the last away win of the season and was followed by a run of six consecutive away defeats. This one though was another 2-1 win and our goals came from Callum Marshall and Nigel Lonwijk with a Brandon Hanlan goal in between them. All goals came in the first half.
So we are still unbeaten against this team.
So what's going on down Broadhall Way? Managed nowadays by Alex Revell, a much travelled striker in his playing days, now in his second spell as Boro boss.
His first spell started after Graham Westley (yes him again) resigned with the club 7 points adrift at the foot of League Two in February 2020. He lost his first two games, but then the season was ended prematurely due to the Covid outbreak. They were initially relegated, but got lucky at the demise of Macclesfield Town, whose points deductions meant the Boro received a reprieve.
They were still bottom of the table after 18 games of the next season, but Revell rallied them and they finished comfortably in 14th. The Board thanked him for this by sacking him early in the next season.
He wasn't unemployed for long though. Paul Tisdale got the job and brought him back to coach the youth team. When Steve Evans replaced Tisdale, he became his number two. He'd played under Evans earlier in his career at Rotherham.
Evans returned to Rotherham two matches before the end of last season and Revell took over once more, drawing 1-1 at Oxford and winning 2-1 at home to Cheltenham in those two last games.
At the end of the 23/24 season, he was appointed in the full time role.

Stevenage in popular culture: The most exciting thing ever to happen to Stevenage was in the Swinging Sixties when the cult comedy film Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush, starring Barry Evans and Judy Geeson, was filmed there. Here's a clip from that film.....

LAST MATCH
Our first home game of the season saw us fall to a 0-3 defeat as Stoke took all three points. We got off to a terrible start when Fusire lost the ball and Manhoef beat Charles at his near post, this coming in the first minute. Stoke nearly doubled there lead but Charles saved and the rebound hit the bar. Onto the 2nd half and just like the first half we were 2 down as Charles rushed off his line but the forward got there first and crossed for Mubama to head into a empty net. It was 3 when Stoke broke away and Manhoef bundled in his second. We had a few chances but the Stoke keeper made some saves and saw the game out.

THE MATCH
Next up and we travel to Wales to take on Hollywood FC or Wrexham as we call them. Its been a tough start for Wrexham, losing both there first 2 games, although they did play Southampton and WBA who are both probably going to be up there come the end of the season. They are managed by Phil Parkinson, who has been in charge since 2021 but has led them to back to back to back promotions, with the backing of there Hollywood owners of course. I think they will be ok this season, but will probably finish in the bottom half of the table. They have some decent players, Coady, Broadhead, Moore and some bloke called Windass.

Group A
Twerton 13
Stairs 11
BaggieVic 9
Minizin 7
A.A.A. 6
B.B.B. 2
BaggieOne 0
Zinman 0
Well I predicted that lasts weeks excellent scoring by Group A would probably not continue and the group as a whole proved me right!! Only 2 players in double figures and while we didn't end up with a negative player score yet we did get 2 big fat zeroes!! The overall score was just over a third of last weeks with three games ending with negative totals!!
Twerton leads the way this week with 13 points. He got 2 CSs, half of the total for the group as a whole and a CR on the Bonus but he also scored the first Scoreball negative point of the season on the Villa v Newcastle scoreless draw!! Stairs is 2nd again with 11 points, he was the only player to score positive points on the Gamball as well as a CR on the Bonus. Third place is BaggieVicar with 9 points, he did not play the Gamball, a wise decision in the end which saved him a point!!
Minizin is 4th with 7 points, AAA is 5th with 6 points and BBB dropped massively to just 2 points!! All three of them missed on the Gamball and the Bonus and we all know that decimates your score.
That leaves the 2 big fat zeroes which belong to BaggieOne and Zinman. They both missed on all their balls and only managed to get 2 CRs to keep them out of negative points.
36 Stairs
32 Twerton
28 B.B.B.
22 BaggieOne
20 A.A.A.
19 BaggieVicar
18 Minizin
6 Zinman
So Stairs takes over top spot from BBB, who is also overtaken by Twerton and drops to third. I seem to remember that Stairs started last season in the same fine form before dropping away, is he going to continue this form this year?
Just 4 points separates BaggieOne, AAA BaggieVicar and Minizin in 4th to 7th spots.
Then there is a rather large drop of 12 points down to Zinman who sits rock bottom with just 6 points from the first two weeks!! Obviously early days but he needs to stop trying to emulate my beloved Owls!!!!
Cheers
SCO
Group B
Themaclad 13
Lady Jane 10
4eva 9
Snooty 8
Salop 6
SCO 6
Derby 4
A harder set of predictions with 2 games, Villa/Newcastle and Swansea/Sheff U generating negative scores. I suspect that there weren't too many of us bothered by Wrexham's last minute goal but I suspect Salop was gnashing his teeth at the loss of 4 points on his gamball!
2 weeks in and 2 weeks on top of the table for Themaclad. He followed last week's 22 points with a slightly more subdued performance, 13 points from 6 correct predictions though he missed out on any correct scores. Lady Jane was one of three players brave enough to predict an Albion away win and one of only 2 to predict a correct score - enough to get her to double figures and 2nd place. 4eva is just a point back, 5 correct predictions including the gamball but again no correct scores.
Snooty decided to turn up this week and had a decent start - he was the 2nd player with a correct score and also claimed a positive bonus ball. Salop and SCO are together on 6 points, both scoring on 3 games with Salop getting the gamball and a scoreball point, SCO with a correct bonus. Derby holds up the table with just 4 points - he scored on more games than the 3 above him but missed out on all the balls.
35 Themaclad
25 4eva
22 Lady Jane
20 SCO
13 Derby
8 Salop
8 Snooty
Themaclad is charging ahead already having built up a 10 point gap to 2nd place - can he make it 3 in a row this week?
