Oldham Athletic have signed Barnsley striker James Norwood for an undisclosed fee on a two-year deal.
The 32-year-old scored 11 goals in 42 League One appearances for the Tykes last season.
He has now dropped two divisions to a level he won promotion from before during his time with Tranmere.
Norwood is the Latics' second signing of the day after they added former Carlisle midfielder Brennan Dickenson on a one-year deal

With Dara and Jake leaving, we are in need of a new captain.
CC has advised he will announce it on Saturday.
Who do you want it to be?
I think the possibles are, Bartley, Furlong, Townsend, okay, swift or Wallace.
My vote would be okay, he has all the attributes you want. Leads by example, in the right place on the pitch to give out orders, can see all that’s going on, someone to look up to.
But what do you all think?

It is a question that not only besets William Shatner, it is also permanently hovering on the lips of every Spireite.
I spent a large part of last season warning anyone who would listen that our cardboard keeper would crumple under pressure and let us down big time when it mattered. As I'm usually wrong that should have been enough to prevent it coming true, but naturally life being what it is I turned out to be 100% correct for once!
Now we have signed a very promising young keeper on loan, who seems to meet the criteria I would lay down for a successful season AND now we have added Ryan Boot, who has for several seasons been one of the best keepers at our level and is still only 28.
So now as if to exorcise the ghost of last season, who froze as the penalties flew past him, we have salved the hurt with a double dose of cream. Unfortunately not even Arnica could do much about last season's extensive bruising. Could it be that, after several seasons of not appreciating the importance of a keeper, we have finally got the message that for a club like Chesterfield should in any case have been part of our DNA? After all we did produce the two greatest keepers who ever lived.
What's the betting we concede due to a goalkeeping error against Dorking?

The long-awaited redevelopment of the Halfords Lane continues apace
Popular myth once had it that if everyone in China jumped off a chair at once, the planet would be shifted from its solar orbit. That may not be the case, but right now it's beginning to seem as if everyone in China who collects five crisp packets can gain a stake in West Bromwich Albion. With Guochuan Lai a mere figurehead representing the interests of individuals running into the thousands - some of whom may, in turn, be acting on behalf of the Chinese state, those tireless architects of some of Xinjiang's finest concentration camps - it's hard not to feel like the Hawthorns has become the setting for some grimy and unusually banal John Le Carré thriller. The Constant Craig Gardner, perhaps? The Bob Taylor of Panama? Even (with due apologies to Philip K. Dick) The Man In The High Astle? So, while some torch-wielding Bond or Smiley gets tasked with rifling through the club's files in the dead of night and puzzling over what my four-decade-old letters asking for Gary Robson's autograph could possibly be fiendish Chinese code for, we're off to Ewood Park on Saturday, where the natives had the temerity to moan about being owned by Indian chicken farmers.
We do so without summer departures Jake Livermore, Dara O'Shea and Karlan Grant, but with recent reinforcements Jeremy Sarmiento and Josh Maja making up the alarmingly slender numbers. The 2-1 defeat we suffered at Blackburn this time last year was the beginning of a slow and undignified end for Steve Bruce, but it was also the only victory Rovers have had over us in the last six encounters (all of which have tended, by the by, towards three or four goal scorelines with both teams finding the net). The difference this time round will be Carlos Corberan, and we can only hope he didn't use up his allowance of miracles last winter...

Hibs 6 Inter Club d'Escaldes 1 - Hibs atonement after the 1st leg shambles! |

Just back from ER and Hibs clearly a different team compared with what happened in the UECL 1st leg in Andorra. Our talismanic striker, Boyly, resoundingly welcomed back by Hibs supporters before the match started and he repaid the praise by scoring the first two goals to calm things down and Hibs gelling together as a team and probing the weaknesses in Inter's defence; Doidgy having a fine performance and scoring a decent third goal. The sixth goal by Youann was certainly my "pick of the bunch" and it was a good all round performance by Hibs tonight. Also good to see Fish slotted in beside Paul Hanlon to solidify our defence. And Max Boruc surely never expected to be "between the sticks" after Marshall's pre-match injury and then Wollacott's demise in the 1st half! He played well! So Hibs qualify on a 7-3 aggregate score.
However, the fun begins as Hibs prepare to face Swiss footie league opponents, Luzern, who will be no pushover in the 3rd and final quali round 1st leg next Thursday night. One has to ponder what kinda Hibs line-up Johnson will choose for Sunday's PL match v St Mirren? Compromise prevailing with a view to resting key players for a huge challenge next Thursday night and the following Thursday in Switzerland?

I'm not going to lie, I've missed this football lark so pleased to say it's back on Saturday. Neil Warnock starts this campaign by setting sail with his armada to newly promoted Plymouth Argyle. They've been out of the Championship since relegation in 2010. Unfortunately, this was followed by another relegation to League Two. They played bouncy bouncy for a while but last came back to League One in 2020. They were promoted as champions having had a massive 31 wins and 101 points. They're no mugs, obviously.
***
This is the sort of match we knew we'd start with and, I'm not going to lie, I'm worried that we'll lose it. I like Plymouth but not that much.
They've been around since 1886 and played at Home Park since 1901. They have remained faithful to the green and white since the beginning except for going rogue with changes mainly in the 1970s. I'm not going to lie, though, who didn't make the occasional fashion faux pas in the 70s?
***
They're managed by Steven Schumacher who's been there since 2019, originally as assistant to Ryan Lowe (now at PNE) and took over as manager in 2021. I'm not going to lie, he probably won't be given as long as that in the Championship.

The Current Squad according to wikipedia is
Kaine Kesler-Hayden is no stranger to us, of course.

Top 10 Scorers last season:
Of these, Niall Ennis has signed for Blackburn (one to watch there?), Finn Azaz has returned to Aston Villa, and Sam Cosgrove has returned to Birmingham City.

Head to head is not bad...
... but, I'm not going to lie, our last encounter was a loss. That was an FA Cup 3rd round draw at home on 9/1/21. We lost 3-2, having been 1-0 up, then 2-1 up.
***
I'm not going to lie, I couldn't find many who played for both. There was Chris Billy who Neil Warnock took with him when he left us for Plymouth, Damien Johnson who was on loan with us from Plymouth, and Graham Carey who was on loan with us from Celtic and signed later in his his career for Plymouth. According to wiki, Carey is still playing for St Johnstone. Like I said, Neil Warnock has managed both but, I'm not going to lie, there's not many he hasn't managed.

Are you going?
You'll be in the Barn Park End.
There doesn't appear to be any specific away pubs so better have a look at one of the away fans' guides. Here's one:
***
Famous Plymothian Sportspeople
Sharron Davies, swimming
Tom Daley, diving
Trevor Francis, football
Sir Francis Drake*, bowling
*listed as a famous person from Plymouth but wiki page shows Tavistock. However, this is so close, I'm wondering if it was once a part of Plymouth.

A couple or three bits of random nonsense:

As Plymouth is a naval port...
Because everyone needs a native American and a cowboy on a warship.

There's a recurring catchphrase in this thread. Which Plymouth supporting comedian uses it a lot?
