Solihull Moors have named former Halifax Town boss Chris Millington as their new manager.

The 50-year-old replaces Matt Taylor, who was sacked four weeks ago after a winless start to the National League season.

Solihull have since won three of their six league games under caretaker boss James Quinn, who will stay on as part of Millington's coaching team, which includes his former Halifax assistant Andy Cooper.

"Both Andy and I are looking forward to working with Quinny," Millington told the club website., external

"I have always admired the way the club is run and the way it has competed in recent years. We are fully committed to driving the team forward."

It was at the end of last season, after Halifax's play-off exit, that Millington stepped down as boss of the Shaymen.

That was the second time since taking the job in 2022 he had led the club to a top-seven finish.

He also guided Halifax to FA Trophy glory in 2023.

"They [Millington and Cooper] did an outstanding job at Halifax and both have a wealth of experience at this level and across the game more generally," said Moors chairman Darryl Eales.

"From our first meeting, I was impressed with Chris's vision and ambition and his excellent fit with Moors as a club and our culture."

Solihull Moors have appointed Wealdstone boss Matt Taylor as the club's new head coach.

The 43-year-old, who has previously managed Walsall, Shrewsbury Town and Tottenham's Under-18 side, succeeds Andy Whing, who left the club earlier this week to take over at Barrow.

Taylor made more than 600 appearances as a midfielder, featuring in the Premier League for Portsmouth, Bolton Wanderers, West Ham and Burnley, before spells in the EFL with Luton Town, Northampton Town and Swindon Town.

He leaves the Stones - who he joined in May - in the National League's final relegation place after five wins and 10 losses in 25 league matches. Solihull are seventh in the fifth tier, occupying the final play-off spot.

Wealdstone assistant manager Paul Hughes will take charge of the first team on an interim basis while the club appoints Taylor's successor.

"It's a great club with big plans and ambitions, on and off the pitch, and I am really looking forward to playing my part in that," Taylor told the Solihull website, external.

"I have been made to feel at home straight away and I am absolutely determined to repay the trust that has been placed in me by building a successful team playing good football to entertain the fans."

The club is keeping its backroom team with Richard Stearman stepping up to serve as Taylor's assistant.

"I'm absolutely delighted that we have been able to attract Matt to the club," chairman Darryl Eales added.

"We had many highly respected applicants, but Matt was the outstanding candidate for many reasons.

"He's intelligent, articulate, principled, knows the league and already has a good understanding of Moors, our ethos and our ambition allied to a real hunger and humility to continue to build on our strong foundations."

Solihull Moors have appointed former Coventry and Brighton defender Andy Whing as their head coach.

Whing resigned as Banbury United boss in May, having led them to promotion to National League North in 2021-22 and a 17th-placed finish last season.

He succeeds Neal Ardley, who left Moors by mutual consent on Sunday, having been in charge for two seasons.

"I am absolutely delighted to make the step up into full-time management," Whing told the club website.

"My time at Banbury has given me a great grounding and the experience that I gained there will prove invaluable.

"Having seen the training facilities and the set up here at Moors, I am incredibly impressed by what I have seen and feel we have everything in place to have a successful season."

Whing will work alongside newly appointed director of football Stephen Ward and first-team coach James Quinn, but details of his contract have not been disclosed.

Solihull finished 15th in the National League last term after reaching the play-off final 12 months earlier - where they lost 2-1 to Grimsby Town after extra time at the London Stadium.

"I've known Whingy since my Oxford days and his professionalism, his commitment to the highest standards and his drive and work ethic have always impressed me," said chairman Darryl Eales.

"He understands the club and its community route and deserves this opportunity after his excellent spell at Banbury, and having learnt his stripes from working with experienced coaches like Michael Appleton and John Eustace."

The ex-Wolves and Burnley defender, 37, arrived a day after manager Neal Ardley left the National League club.

Ward worked in the sixth tier as assistant coach at Brackley Town last season, but was let go when manager Roger Johnson left in April.

Solihull chairman Darryl Eales said a new head coach will be appointed "in the near future".
He cotninued: "Stephen's appointment is part of our programme of continuous improvement and he will oversee all our football activities."

The Moors finished in mid-table last season after failing to win any of their final eight games, a year after making the play-off final.

Chairman Darryl Eales said Ardley's departure was "amicable".

The 2021-22 campaign saw them achieve the second-highest finish in the club's history, ending up third before losing to Grimsby Town in the play-off final.

A statement on the Moors website said the club were "disappointed" to announce former AFC Wimbledon and Notts County boss Ardley's departure, and Eales said: "It has been a pleasure to work with Neal over the past two seasons.

"He has overseen our continued push as a club to punch above our weight and operate to the highest professional standards.

"He led the club to our best ever season in 2021-22 where we reached the National League promotion final and generally introduced a fast-paced style of play which is attractive on the eye and has been at the forefront of our player development philosophy.

"This is an amicable and respectful parting of the ways, wholly consistent with Neal's values and character, and I wish him every success in the future."
