I watched all the Lionesses games of the Euros and in some ways I enjoy watching the England Women's team more than the Men's because of how they play. What people need to stop doing though is comparing the Women's game to the Men's game, it's the same game played at different levels. You can't compare non-league to Champions League so why do it with the Women's and the Men's game.

The younger generation of Girls and Women will follow Women's football at club level and support a team maybe the same team as the Men's or maybe where they live or because of their favourite player but the problem is how do you get Women who watch the Euros or World Cup every 2 years supporting the Lionesses who don't follow club football interested in club football and through the turnstiles? It's a bit like people who watch Wimbledon once a year because it's on TV but don't necessarily follow all the other grand slams.

Last night I watched Exeter playing at Shrewsbury, the only EFL game happening in England. One of the Assistant Refs was a woman. She unfortunately made her presence obvious by missing a fairly glaring offside on Exeter's second goal and this set me wondering .........

Why was she on the line when every other Assistant in England would have been available? Why, to be judged any good, and probably to satisfy herself of her own capabilities, must be she measured in the male game?

Whilst all football is desperate for competent officials why, when there aren't anywhere near enough women within the women's game in management, coaching, and officiating roles is the standard for women that they are as good as men. And are men that good anyway?

I suppose I will be accused of being very Joey Barton if I suggest women should be populating and dominating their game and proving their worth in that sphere before being, or even wanting to be, judged against men. I imagine there are Shrewsbury fans muttering about women running the line, when in fact errors of judgement are common to all those thrust into that unenviable position. If human judgement were immaculate, would we spending our time watching VAR and ruling idiot lines on digital pitches?

Of course a woman can officiate in a men's game, but why should she need to prove it? What we've got at the moment is just another form of tokenism. I hope women don't fall for it. All it can do is hand women a second-class status as soon as they make a mistake. And "you're not fit to referee" is already one of the chants most commonly heard ........

I know we put the women's game back over half a century by banning them, but we can't make reparation by urging them to become us. The most we can do is assist them in any way they wish to develop their game. Even a gay man like me has noticed women are different. Celebrate it! Women are wonderful.

I must say I'm not totally surprised by this revelation and the nature of the meeting between all team members and coaching staff to assess how on earth a Scotland team could lose such a World Cup tie v Argentina when three goals ahead and with about 15 mins remaining. Of course the proceedings could become heated!!! The team was given additional financial support to prepare properly in France for a decent period and in recognition of their achievement to qualify for a World Cup tourney! What a screw up! What a "dampener" to end the tournament in such a way and certain Scotland players were deserving of the criticism albeit in private. I also find this media/press report of Kerr's preceding evening meal "with a few drinks" as the usual mischief that is typical of press behaviour these days!! Trying to "stir it up" when, in fact, a few harsh words would likely be uttered following an unacceptable "screw up" by a Scotland team that should've been in total control of their own destiny when leading by three goals to nil and on course to attain a wee bit of success after a difficult and relatively unlucky World Cup campaign in France. Was Shelley Kerr disappointed? I'll bet she was! Could she have done more during the course of that Argentina match? I think she could have "changed it" esp towards the end of that match, which was far too "open" from her point of view. But that is down to coaching/tactical "nous" and having suitable players on the subs' bench to influence the course of a footie match. IMO she never had a plan B mentality about her and just looked powerless/"frozen" on the touch line as this match unfolded and became one of the most remembered World Cup Scotland matches but for all the wrong reasons!!

I was wondering will we ever see a female manager in the Premier League or even the Football League? Shelley Kerr who manages Stirling University in the Lowland League became the 1st ever female manager in 2014 to manage a Men's team in Britain. Surely there must be more Women managers out there who could make the step up who are capable of managing in the Premier League or Football League. We see the same managers in the Premier League or Football League doing the rounds even though they might have failed at the last 3-4 clubs they've been at and there still getting hired while younger managers and female managers aren't being given a chance.

Are clubs worried about the backlash by there own fans? or would the media make a big song and dance about it? Surely it has to happen sooner or later and a club will have to put there head above the parapet.
