Hibs v Alloa Athletic - 13/12/14

Come Saturday, it'll be exactly 3 months since we last won at Easter Road - 4 Championship draws and a League Cup defeat after extra time have followed that result. And therein lies the main reason why Hibs are not challenging near the top of the table - not enough goals being scored in tight matches when we have been in the ascendancy for most of the game.

Our defence seems to be strong enough for most games, but the occasional lapse can do a lot of damage, especially when our attack is not firing on all cylinders. One spark plug that is definitely needing replaced is Paul Heffernan. Jason Cummings needs seeing to with a wire brush and only Dominique Malonga is running fairly smoothly. I'd like to see Lewis Allan get a start along with Malonga, to see if he could make a difference to the team. We've been plodding along with the same tried and tested players and it's not working, so change it. If the change doesn't work, then try something else, but don't stick with the same formula.

My team would be

Oxley,
Gray, Fontaine, Hanlon, Stevenson,
Stanton, Craig, Robertson, Scott Allan,
Lewis Allan, Malonga.

with Sinclair, Handling and Kennedy in reserve.

At last, 3 points in the bag at Easter Road! A result that's well overdue, but still not an inspiring performance. We won by 17 corners to 4, so plenty of pressure from Hibs, but corners and possession don't win matches. We scored 2 goals - neither will merit inclusion in the Goal of the Month competition - and just as important, we kept a clean sheet. The next 3 games will have a big bearing on the outcome of our season, so there's still plenty to play for and consequently room for more improvement.

Whoohoo. Was quite giddy when I saw the result. Marginally made up for the humiliation we suffered at Norwich today. Smile Sad

Well done Hibs. Three points closer to the Gers and the Tarts.
Can you catch Queen of the South though?

Of course we can, but we don't need to. Staying ahead of everyone else will be good enough for me. Then we take our chance in the play-offs. Cool
