I'm sure Charlie and Craig Reid won't lose any sleep at all re such a crass decision coming from lickspittle officials of the House of Windsor. The boys had no time for them anyway and explained precisely why they felt that way and also why Scotland has to be an independent country well away from the whole concept of Brit govt interference, being bullied by govts Scots don't vote for, and the Brit establishment/govt impudently "ripping off" Scotland for generations!!

Out of curiosity why on earth would The Proclaimers even be on the coronation playlist in the first place?  Its like say Gary Glitter is off it as well, when the reality is they were never remotely near it in the first instance!!  Surely this is just a shit stirring story by someone!!

Besides, Charles ain't ever walking 500 miles anywhere, he has trains, planes and automobiles at his disposal to do that for him!! Whistle

It's the brainchild of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport; entirely a government thing to make some hapless bugger(s) temporarily useful. They did similar playlists for the 2018 World Cup featuring a song from every participating country, and for last year's Jubilee. There's no rhyme or reason to a lot of the selections, as stuff like The Beatles' Come Together (the first song on the list!) is hardly going to be packing the dancefloor; they're just hit songs by a range of British & Commonwealth artists who are internationally recognised, have cross-generational appeal, and vaguely sound from the title like they're appropriate for the occasion.

But of course, like any such initiative, it's entirely at the mercy of people going "I'm offended by this choice!" In this instance, it seems like a few royalist busybodies have objected to the Proclaimers for their views on the monarchy (rather than the eminently more justifiable reason of what their warbling actually sounds like). Funnily enough, I notice that last year's Jubilee playlist featured Delilah by Tom Jones, which recently got booted from the pre-match playlist at Welsh rugby matches because it's a murder ballad. Had that controversy landed twelve months earlier, the DCMS would probably have been deluged by complaints and quietly shuffled that off their list too. We live in daft times.

The playlist is here, though I wouldn't recommend listening to it until you've first checked that the skip function is in good working order: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1lCJ7Y...wz79h8bXer

Gary Glitter would make perfect sense to be on that playlist to be fair.

I doubt the Reids give a solitary xxxx.

It looks like it came from a BBC Radio Scotland news report. Note the Proclaimers not invited, but their music (like eg 500 miles) originally on the playlist with lots of other well known musical numbers until some Royal censor was brought on board to cull it. Call it BBC shit-stirring then!! Petty all the same.

A fitting riposte by Charlie and Craig would be to turn up at one of the big anti-monarchy rallies in Edinburgh or Glasgow on 6 May. Imagine it - the bonus of a Proclaimers concert slotted in to the event and guaranteeing thousands more protesters joining the party and having a great time! Smile
As an aside, on a similar theme I find it so ironic listening to the latest Times revelation tonight re a Brit govt blacklist of individuals (incl academics, lawyers, teachers, lecturers...) orchestrated by the highly strung and irrational Rees-Mogg vetoing those who eg opine against Brexit and its failure etc or criticise certain govt policies. This is the kinda stuff one reads in the likes of George Orwell's book, 1984 - dystopian government gone truly mental and not respecting the whole concept of free speech!! Thumb down No surprise TBH and it ties in nicely with the extreme political behavioural issues that became more n more self-evident after the Brexit vote in 2016. The years that followed just confirmed a massive negative shift in proper governance, fraud, unlawful practises, a lack of respect and values that are "fit for the gutter". And it continues through to the present day!!
