Hibs v Hertz: Tues 3 March, KO 7.45pm
#1
So we have an Embro Derby match following success for both clubs in their Scottish Cup quarter-finals and being drawn together in the forthcoming semi-final in April. However, for Hibs it is a case of "put that aside for the time being" and focus on a match v a team that is bottom of the Scot Prem and severely weakened as a team as well as playing "dodgy" hi press tactics with the wrong players! Also note Hibs have only lost one match since the turn of the year. So the emphasis from Jack Ross must be to continue with this positive momentum v a bottom league team that disnae win league matches and is under severe pressure to play because they are embroiled in a relegation battle while Hibs must be looking up towards the achievable 3rd or 4th spots that they have got close to due to the positive results under JR's stewardship. C'mon Hibs! We wanna win this match and possibly even win it well as we now have the striking capability to "do damage"!

Well that was one to forget.

Not a classic for sure, but hertz wanted it way more and they were certainly the better side 2nd half. Stendels game plan was far more effective than ross's on the night, basically the German style high press and they worked very hard to make sure it clicked. They scored a great goal and were still flying into tackles and trying to get forward til the end.

For us it was a tale of a team that didn't turn up at all, the midfield was non existent and Hanlon and Stevo were hopeless...our defending is nowhere near good enough. There is still a softness and lack of leadership on the park from us.

Oh and McNulty should have saw red for the stamp, I had a great view of it and he 100% knew what he was doing. He will get done for it. Play like that in the semi and we can forget about it.

We can't afford to be this sloppy in the Semi Final or Hearts will do us again. Not enough players had the hunger to win a game that would have seen us knocking on the door of 4th place AND seen our biggest rivals fighting it out over the rest of the season to avoid relegation
Not good enough the team let the fans down - again.

My 1st question is, "Were Hertz really that good"???????? Even though Hibs didn't "show up" last night, one must assess all the goals and every one of the goals Hibs lost v a crap, one-dimensional Hertz team, were absolutely avoidable! They were crap - mispasses, long overhit passes etc etc but WE WERE CRAPPER and on par with Rangers recent rank rotten performance at the PBH!!!!! Note Hertz away record since Nov 2018 - WON 5 AWAY GAMES AND THREE OF THEM WERE V HIBS AT ER STADIUM - A SHOCKER!!! The crucial 1st goal was a f##### irresponsible act by Scott Allan. Listening to Cris Sutton later on, on BT Sport, and he scathingly commented, "What is Allan thinking about putting his hand up like that? Absolutely daft and needless"!! SPOT ON CRIS!! The crucial 1st goal negligently given away by an unthinking f###### idiot who shouldn't have been in that position!!! The 2nd goal lacked any leadership or control by our so called captain to say "COOL IT" to Jackson before he took that stupid free kick to give the ball away so cheaply in mid traffic. You place the ball down and usher all forwards up to the edge of their pen box before taking the FK as well as simultaneously slowing down the pace of the game - HE DIDN'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!! The 3rd goal was Hanlon's misjudgement but I still think the lad was offside based on my view from the West Stand. WHAT A F### UP and he needlessly gave the lad a free run on Rocky's goal!!! All the pressure was on them and the majority of our guys bizarrely didn't show up. Why??? It was the same even after HT!!! What happened to Ross's team talk??? This match was one of the worst capitulations by a Hibs team that I've seen in decades and I do regard it as a tad suspicious!!! Hibs definitely have "form" in this regard and they have done it again. Do remember during "relegation year" there was a similar scenario at the PBH when Hibs could relegate them and the players "bottled it", shamelessly walked over to the Hibs fans at the end of the match and deservedly were given "laldy" for a similar capitulation and some Hibs scarves thrown at them in utter disgust - DIDNAE HAVE THE STOMACH TO RELEGATE THEM EH AND PARTICK THISTLE DID IT TO THEM IN THEIR NEXT GAME!!! But we have a different group of players now. So I ultimately question WHY??? As for McNulty, he was useless last night, "off the pace" of a derby match (not the only player!!) and he will be suspended for that stamp. That gives Jamie Gullan a chance to show what he can do alongside Doidge but McNulty will lose "game time" as he is still not fully match fit. Btw Halkett should've been red-carded (2nd yellow) as well when the score was 0-1 and another SFA ref, Clancy, failed to issue it. The COWARD shouts from the West Stand were so telling - a f###### joke but I notice Hertz have been given highly questionable ref decisions since the Hamilton match at the PBH, a game that the Accies should've won but were "done" by a ref red card decision where, later on, the card was rescinded!!! Thumb down It is AFC next at Pittodrie and Hibs need to regroup very quickly - it is still a potential 6 pointer!! They have lost McKenna and that is a big blow to their defence but my next question is, "Will Hibs show up and display some kinda anger and pride re such a pitiful loss last night"???? We can only wait n see but I'm sure changes are inevitable and Scott Allan is number one on my "hit list" but there are other Hibs players whose "coats are on shoogly pegs" after this disgraceful capitulation v a fairly average Hertz team!!! Ultimately we need to improve that defence asap - been debating this issue for far too long and need to redress it!!

Not as good as we like to think we are, bar one big game at Tynie how many have we actually turned up for? I thought JR was disappointing in the after match interview, this isn't St Mirren vs Morton this is a massive deal in the capital city, get it sorted. Why didnt we sign Efe Ambrose, whose bright idea was it not to bring him back?

I think ross was right to downplay it a bit, stay calm.... all eyes are now on the semi final and we better sort it out pronto.

We were asking the same about Ambrose afterwards - in what world would he not improve that back 4? In our game v Livi he looked very well indeed. He obviously takes care of himself and could have done a job.

I'm still not totally convinced with ross yet. The slow starts, the junior club standard defending, the hit and miss tactical changes. The boy band mentality that Lennon raged about seems to be still there too.

Remember Ron Gordon's AGM speech re the "positive future" and the "new revolution" and yet his highly praised coaching and scouting team couldn't suss out that Efe was a free agent and could be a really good signing to suit our needs!! I highlighted that fact weeks before the signing deadline and also weeks after it!! It made common sense to sign him!!! Can I get a part-time job as one of the Hibs transfer advisors eh???? F###### useless but may I also add there are other free agents out there who are still available! Remember that "pivotal signing" by Stubbsy in 2016 when we desperately needed a solid, reliable goalie for our Scot Cup campaign!!!! Enter the "roly poly goalie", Conrad Logan, who was another free agent and the rest is history. Here's another item to note during that campaign: I can recall in the semi-final at Hampden v Dundee United, the roly poly goalie had a legendary match v the Tangerines but that was mainly due to a nightmare performance by a certain Paul Hanlon who has never played many decent games at Hampden TBH!!!! Just saying this as a fact and looking towards another semi-final at Hampden where player accountability is absolutely paramount!!!

McNulty definitely deserved to be sent off in a dismal performance and will surely be punished retrospectively. Against that, most of the results tonight surely eased the pain slightly. Kilmarnock, Aberdeen, Livingston and St Johnstone only got 1 point, Hamilton won at Ibrox to go ahead of Hearts at the bottom and, of course, Rangers Nil!

Mind you, I'm not sure Hibs should be looking to qualify for Europe, as we'll surely be shown up again, the same as most Scottish clubs.

McNulty deservedly given a two match ban by the SFA - a f####### erse!! I appreciate that he is a good Hibs fan but one needs to "keep the heid" in games like this one where it is paramount not to concede PKs or lose a player to a red card!! Discipline is absolutely demanded!!! However, it gives an up n coming youth dev player, Jamie Gullan, an opportunity to "stake a strong claim" for a 1st team position. GOOD LUCK TO HIM - GIVE US LOTSA GOALS JAMIE!!
