MACS MYSTIC FORM GUIDE 25 MAX

BARNSLEY 10 PNE 5

A trip to the people's republic of South Yorkshire at night, the joy, for the hastily re arranged game at Oakwell due to the home sides cup committments next Saturday, we have that day off again.
Although lurking in and around the danger zone the home side have picked up since the appointment of AS Wolfsburger manager Gerhard Struber

Seems a really decent bloke to boot and has turned them into a very attractive side to watch, still think they are a bit iffy at the back but have the capability of bagging a few, they have been without main scorer Woodrow for a few match but Chaplin and appearent North End target Alex Mowett have been regular scorers in recent weeks. Still lack experience in the side but this will be a far tougher game than the 5-1 hammering the Tykes got earlier on in the season which led to the sacking of their previous manager.

Following our first win for a few weeks our confidence should be higher, whether Pearson or Gallagher will make the side could be touch and go, looking forward to the promising link up play between Johnson and Sinclair. We've sold about 800 tickets so decent size following for a Tuesday night.

Match Officials: Barnsley Away

Taking charge of Tuesday’s trip to Barnsley will be a match official who last refereed a North End game relatively recently.
Jeremy Simpson was the man in the middle for PNE’s trip to Cardiff City just before Christmas, in a clash that ended goalless.

He was also in charge at Deepdale for the 3-0 victory over Wigan back in August, the only other occasion when he has officiated a Lilywhites match this season.

Prior to that, the Carnforth referee took charge of three North End matches during the 2018/19 season, which all ended in draws.
The most action-packed of these was a 3-3 draw against Sheffield Wednesday in the final home game of the campaign, where Dominica Iorfa was sent off for the Owls.
He also oversaw fixtures against Bristol City and Rotherham United at Deepdale, both of which finished 1-1.
Back in January 2018, the select group two match official took the game in a draw away at Millwall, having also been in charge for a 1-0 win over Queens Park Rangers at Deepdale the month before.

He last refereed a match involving Barnsley in November, when they were beaten 4-2 at home by Stoke City.

Last season, he had the whistle for the Tykes’ home league fixture against Bradford City, a match which they won 3-0.

This will be his 18th match of the season, having so far issued a total of 59 cautions and 6 red cards. He will be assisted by Shaun Hudson and Richard Wild, while the fourth official will be Chris Sarginson.

PNE line-up: Rudd, Fisher, Rafferty, Pearson, Bauer, Davies, Barkhuizen (Nugent, 74), Johnson (Potts, 67), Sinclair (Maguire, 67), Browne ©, Harrop. Subs not used: Ripley, Clarke, Ledson, Stockley.

Attendance: 12,207 (679 PNE fans)

Referee: Mr J Simpson

Mr Neil proved last night has does have a Plan B as North End played a diamond system in midfield, after an initial 20 minutes of struggle, North End powered through the last twenty five minute of the first half with three goals which firmly put the game to bed by half time. We were also helped by the fact the home side lacked something important commonly known as a defence. As a Deepdale in the reverse fixture they played some good football going forward noted one pass by Mowatt which was of top quality reversing the play and putting us on the back foot, in fact Mowatt caused us an early alarm by putting in a shot which was well saved by Rudd who tipped it round the post for a corner.
After a bright opening period there was a passage of play were the ball went towards then heavens, head tennis ensued and every Barnsley throw in looked a foul through.
Step forward Fisher, down teh wing to the by line, ball across to Barky 1 up, Barky provided the ssist for the second, again down the right hand side, Harrop shot blocked rebounded to DJ who despite losing his balance scored with that least used foot his right. On the stroke of half time Barky took advantage of some abysmal defending advanced on goal, keeper half stopped it but the ball bounced up and towards the unguarded net and that was three.
Sinclair had chance to score just before half time went for power and blasted over the top. Game over.

The second half was a non event Barnsley had plenty of the ball rarely threatened and every cross that was put into the box was won by Bauer or Davies they didn't miss a thing all night. Could have had a fourth late on Harrop and Nugent combined well with Harrop side footing his effort the wrong side of the post did not matter though the points had been won ages earlier.

Barnsley boss Gerhard Struber told BBC Sheffield:

"I think in the first half, many situations on and off the ball were not like a professional team. There were mistakes like an amateur player and this is not our standard.

"You must stand up and never give up and today, the body language in the first half when we gave away the goals, was not like a professional.

"This was a raven-black day. It's not enough to pick up points and also for the fan, when he pays a lot of money for the tickets, this is not enough.

"The only thing we can do now is say a big sorry to our fans. This is not the performance we can give normally at home."

Preston manager Alex Neil said:

"It was a ballsy way that we set up but we felt it was the best way to win the game. Our first real bit of quality play led to the first goal and we upped the tempo from there.

"That's seven points out of nine now. We took the goals well and we've got a clean sheet, so it's really pleasing.

"This is the best position we've been in during the three years I've been here and arguably the best position the club's been in for a decade, so what we should do is embrace it.

"If I had to single one player out tonight it would be Alan Browne - he was excellent, but it would be difficult to pick anybody out who didn't play well tonight. They were great."

You can feel the misery increase as this goes on
