Huddersfield Transfers

Apparently they spent 11.5 million on Isaac Mbenza from Montpellier otherwise mostly free transfers and loans with only one outlay of 270,000 for Bockhorn from Dortmund reserve tea.
Keeper Grabara is on loan from Liverpool also on loan is Trevor two tone hair Chalobah last seen with Ipswich.

Difficult start for Town which resulted in the potting of Siewart who has been replaced by the Cowley brothers from Lincoln. [Image: download-8.jpg] After a couple of early set backs they are now unbeaten in 7 games however will be without Hogg who is suspended on Saturday.
The brothers appontment as manager is decent they have a history of getting sides promoted and also tend to get the Community well involved with the club, suspect more of a ositive feeling about the Terriers these days, hard game for us given the midfield dynamo Pearson also suspended and dreads Johnson is out injured.
No news on Harrop but interesting to note Bayiss was on the bench last Sunday maybe this is the time the record signing makes his full debut Ledson could also possibly come in should be fun look forward to a George Mutch moment in the 90th minute.

Match Officials: Huddersfield Town Home

The match official for Saturday’s game at Deepdale is making his first trip to PR1 this season, but this is his second Lilywhites match of the campaign.
Experienced referee Geoff Eltringham will be in charge as of the clash with Huddersfield Town, having also officiated our 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest at the end of August.

The last time we saw the north east official here in Preston, was for the superb home win over Norwich City back in February, before which he also refereed our final game of 2018, when we took a point from a fine performance against Aston Villa.

Prior to that he was referee when the Lilywhites travelled to Ashton Gate and defeated Lee Johnson’s Bristol City in October 2018 and also North End’s trip to Elland Road back in September – making it four games in the 2018/19 campaign, having also officiated five games for Alex Neil’s side in the 2017/18 season!

In that season, having taken charge our early season game at Derby County, Geoff also took charge of the Boxing Day trip to Barnsley, our January win at Nottingham Forest and March’s victory over Bristol City at Deepdale and finally our goalless draw with Norwich City in mid-April.
He also refereed one North End game in 2016/17, the home clash with our Barnsley, having also done one the previous season, the 1-0 home win over Reading.
The year prior to that he took charge of three PNE games, including the 2-0 home win over Peterborough United in March. Back in the 2013/14 campaign he also took charge of North End twice, both of those at Deepdale - the 1-1 draw with Tranmere Rovers back in November 2013 and then the goalless draw with Sheffield United in March.

The County Durham official is an experienced referee who had taken charge of North End a number of other times in the past including the very first game after the departure of Graham Westley, when John Dreyer took the team against an in-form Bournemouth side and ran out 2-0 winners.

He also looked after a thriller back in 2010, when North End overcame Crystal Palace 4-3 at Deepdale.

For the game, the referee will be assisted by Jonathan Hunt and Shaun Hudson, whilst Matthew Donohue will act as the fourth official.

Geoff has so far taken charge of ten games this season, with 31 cautions and two red cards issued. He was the referee for the Terriers’ opening game of the season, when they lost 2-1 at home to Phillip Cocu’s Derby County.

Parking is a bit crap street mainly though there are paid car parks if you go passed the ground towards Blackpool go through the traffic lights near the ground head towards Blackpool and there is a school 200 yards on the left cost £3

Preston North End 3 Huddersfield Town

PNE: Rudd, Fisher, Bauer, Davies, Rafferty, Ledson, Gallagher (Potts 72), Barkhuizen, Browne, Maguire, Stockley (Nugent 75). Subs (not used): Bayliss, Storey, Ginnelly, Bodin, Ripley.

Huddersfield: Grabara, Simpson (Pritchard 65), Elphick (Stankovic 21), Schindler, Kongolo, Chalobah, Bacuna, O'Brien, Kachunga, Grant, Diakhaby (Mounie 58). Subs (not used): Koroma, Hadergjonaj, Harratt, Schofield.

Referee: Geoff Eltringham (County Durham)

Attendance: 16,038 (3,213 away)

The last time Huddersfield won at Deepdale was in 1969 a 3-1 victory in the 50 years since then they have got sod all and today that trend continued.
In truth expected more from a side who were on a decent unbeaten run and it was only in the last 20 minutes that they actually looked like they could play by then however they were 3-1 down.
Things may have been different if Ledson had been sent off after about 20 minutes for a straight leg tackle on Elphick but Uncle Geoff gave him a yellow. the Cowley's were less impressed with the decision
Uncle Geoff was on a mission to annoy everyone he succeeded. [Image: download-13.jpg] We took an early lead Gallagher free kick of the inside of the post rebound headed home by Stockley. Dominated the first period had countless corners and a second goal more than justified our performance, Ledson out to Barkhuizen cross into the box, clear foul on Stockley but Browne ignored that and fired home to double the lead.
Half time well in control and not one effort of note on goal by the away side.
Town's half time team talk which seemed to be delay the kick off until the opposition have frozen to death waiting for them to appear didn't work our weekly penalty arrived in the first couple of minutes Gally buried it. Had chances to increase the lead and finally on the hour Town had a shot by Grant their best player on the day. Then out of nowhere Bacuna picked up the ball miles out and just kept on going and ended up toe poking the ball past Rudd.
Albeit a bit late Town actually started to play looked a decent outfit, might have been interesting if they had got a second they didn't and their chances finally disappeared when they went down to 10 due to Bacuna being a soft wuss and being unable to continue due to tiredness.

Second as wel go to the break behind Albion do nicely.

Fair play to Cowley

Preston manager Alex Neil:

"I cannot have much to complain about now, we are getting results and performing well.

"It was important to go in at half-time in front and I think, based on the chances we created, we deserved that.

"We knew we would have to change something in our approach, as we were missing two important players, but the team reacted well and showed they can adapt in these situations.

"The important thing now for us in the coming weeks is to keep momentum going. The players can be very proud of the run that we are on right now."

Huddersfield boss Danny Cowley:

"Of course a result like this is difficult to take, but I simply do not think we started well enough today, and that hampered us.

"We do have to praise Preston - they worked hard right from the start and played with a real intensity and we struggled to cope with them in the first half.

"We do not look for excuses in these situations. We have to look at ourselves now and look ahead to the next few games we have coming up.

"The travelling fans were fantastic today, but we let ourselves down with the performance. We came up short and we need to look at that together."

We missed Hogg, Brown and Campbell. Hogg, kn particular.

You obviously deserve your place in the top 2. Your performance was a championship one. Ours wasn't for the most of it.

I still think we're going the right way to survive.

Good luck with your season. You absolutely should be in contention for promotion.

The points just keep coming.

Loved that disguised pass from Browne to Gallagher leading up to the second goal.

Another piledriver penalty from Gally - eek - but the keeper dived.

Their consolation goal was a bit of an accident giving possession away but 4 NE players couldn't catch the scorer. The only one fast enough was LB (Rafferty?) but he ran to cover the other HUFC player. Maybe not the right choice.

Take the score though Smile)
