Who would be your Chesterfield XI? You can pick any players from any decade in your XI.
Mine would be:
Tommy Lee
Jamie Lowry
Reuben Hazell
Ian Evatt
Gregor Robertson
Gary Roberts
Derek Niven
Paul Hall
Lloyd Kerry
Jack Lester
Ernie Moss
I never saw Moss play as I'm too young but had to put him in the team as he is a Chesterfield legend.
I was thinking about putting Wayne Allison upfront but I think Jack was better than Allison.

I think me and Pooch will come up with teams that would beat you easily ..... because we're a lot older. Tommy's a good keeper, but we've had two England internationals then we've got Stevenson, Ogrizovic and John Osborne and maybe even John Roberts without even thinking. And for midfield I hope today everyone will give Danny Wilson the ovation he deserves - a big money transfer who worked his socks off for us. Hmmm best ever team .....

Edit Reason: Addition
)
A quick team for you here after our win today ......
Banks
Holmes
Bellamy
Hunter
Sears
Birch
Bonnyman
Wilson
Fern
Ward
Davies
You could pick better and you certainly could challenge Jamie Ward's inclusion - Ernie, Kev Randall, Ivan Hollett, Charlie Rackstraw etc. Fenoughty and Archer in midfield too. And if you go further back Sam Hardy would be regarded as a genuine challenger to Banks and then there's Willis Edwards, who with his international caps ought to replace Danny Wilson. If you then added loanees O'Hara and Martin O'Neill would compete ..... but Hitzlesperger would probably have to play.

Actually Dev that team wouldnt be far off the same team as me
Its difficult to compare current players with ones from 30 years ago as the players are fitter and the game is quicker .
Of the players I can vaguely remember from the 70s I seem to think Malcolm Darling was a favourite of mine and obviously Ernie purely for his record .
The Cox team from the early eighties was a really good team with an excellent midfield .
Having never seen Banks play I cant include him so I'll go with John Turner or Mike Pollitt.
My team would be;(Not including loans)
Pollitt
Holmes
Dyche
Green
Jones
Birch
Bonnyman
Wilson
Fern
Davies
Ward
Subs
Lester
Moss
Morsy
Cooper
Blathers
Darling
Ebdon
Roberts

This is another team
Lee
Picken
Blathers
Kovacs
Griffiths (Now at Luton, shame Sheridan couldn't get him on a permenent deal)
Niven - (Will never forget the goal against City or against Bournemouth)
Goodall
Morsy
Smalley
Fletcher - (Built more like a Rugby player than a footballer)
Davies
Subs:
Roche (Thought he was an alright keeper, used to annoy me that he would be on the floor before the ball was in the net)
Bailey
Downes
Lester
Ward
Hurst
Allison
Larkin
O'Hare

John Turner was a good keeper too, had forgotten him. I don't know if I saw Banks play for us. His season was when I was starting and I've no idea of the team that played - first keepers I'm fully conscious of were fat Ron Powell and John Osborne I think, though remembering what order people played in is difficult.
I don't know if anyone else would come up with Bellamy at centre back but he was pure class to me, that's why I put a contrasting player with him in Les Hunter - tough and brave.
Glad you liked Rodney Fern - on his off days he'd have struggled in Staveley MW Reserves - but when he was on his game he was enough to occupy a defence on his own ......
Now Blathers deserves a mention. I'd have selected him except he seemed to give himself every Christmas off for disciplinary reasons. And my challenger at left back was Nathan Smith. Of the current crop, Gary Roberts would be a sub, as would Drew Talbot .....
What would be your worst ever Chesterfield team. First two selections for me would be Neil Warnock and Tony Moore.

Oh not Mark Randall surely. Candidate for a good kick up the jacksie for sure ..... but he was a good player potentially and Morgan too - you obviously like them to work hard Matt.
The man who Pooch and I clearly loved - Phil Bonnyman - might have driven you up the wall. A top-notcher a lot of the time, but he could do a Randall.

Morgan got on my nerves because he would always try and do fancy tricks with the ball and lose it and his attitude would get on my nerves because he thought he was better than he was and now he plays for Woking.
Randall was the same he would give away the ball too cheaply, he had a few good games and scored the odd goal. He then went to Italy when he left us and struggled and now he's at MK.

You do have to remember Matt there's a reason players are down at our level. Arsenal thought Randall was going to be a future full international, but he didn't mature physically or mentally in the way they hoped. But he still might pass us to death in the FA Cup.
As for Morgan, he has the skill to play higher and knows it ..... but he lacks a real turn of pace, combativeness and physique. Even assessing his best position is difficult, but he shouldn't be in the Conference. He ought to either go up to Scotland or play abroad ......
You have been spoiled though Matt. The team I remember as a boy, with Tony McShane as manager I think, used to have a huge influx of free transfers each season and an equally massive exit. There'd be about 4 stalwarts and the rest would be strangers and rejects ........ and we saw some pretty bad players.
