Laurie Cunningham opens the scoring against Liverpool with Emlyn Hughes and Ray Clemence powerless to stop him, 23rd September 1978

An early start on Saturday feels slightly more palatable after last Sunday's triumph at Old Trafford, and as survival remains Mission Impossible, there's again no real pressure on Albion as we welcome Liverpool to the Hawthorns. Davius Maximus has got the team performing for the first time in over a year, and the big question - the question bigger than Dave himself - is whether he can keep it going for the next few matches. To do so would be to give the club a much-needed lift going into a crucial summer, and would be a decent argument for including him on the shortlist for the full-time job.

It won't be easy by any means, but having gone to Anfield twice this season and first frustrated, then triumphed over Klopp's lauded team, it would be the icing on the cake to see them off again.

To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go

To right the unrightable wrong
To love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star

This is my quest, to follow that star
No matter how hopeless, no matter how far
To fight for the right
Without question or pause
To be willing to march
Into hell for a heavenly cause

And I know if I'll only be true
To this glorious quest
That my heart will lay peaceful and calm
When I'm laid to my rest

And the world will be better for this
That one man scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To fight the unbeatable foe
To reach the unreachable star

Roll your sleeves up, Ahmed - Salah operates on your side. So show the World what you can do!

I expect Big Dave will pick the same team as last week. 4-4-2/4-2-3-1 blend in possession and 4-4-1-1 out of possession.

Foster
Nyom - Dawson - Hegazi - Gibbs
Philips - Livermore - Brunt - McLean
Rodriguez
Rondon

Whilst Hegazi and Gibbs are going to have a hard time against Salah, I’m more concerned by Mane against Nyom who has been poor defensively since Tony Pulis left. Dawson is going to have to cover ground that Nyom will inevitably give up as well as watch Firmino. It’s going to be a tough match for our defence.

Not wishing to tempt fate but ....... Liverpool have an also ran league semi final to play against Roma in the week ..... I can see klippity playing a much weakened side ........

This could be a killer for us ....... we win? Stoke, palace and Swansea lose, we close the gap on safety and just like with England our hopes rise way above reality ...... it's the hope and all that.

Realistically, Eva, we must aim for not-bottom, for pride. Each League placing is worth a cool £2m, so if we aim for 18th, that's £4m in the Bank to fund next season's campaign - not to be sniffed at.

Thumb up just what the South African cricket captain was singing (to his troops) a few weeks ago, Ade. Wink Wink

Oh dear!!! 0-1

Good performance from all players individually and collectively. 1-1 would be a true reflection.
