Former Chelsea and England midfielder Ray Wilkins is "critically ill" in hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest, his wife Jackie has confirmed.

The 61-year-old carried out media duties on talkSPORT and Sky Sports shortly before the cardiac arrest.

Think we have all woken up to hear this shocking news and I`m sure all football fans on here are sending there very best

Ray was a hero of mine growing up, he really could do it all as a player, he even had a column in Shoot which I got on order especially

they used to call him "The Crab" because he passed sideways, nowadays we`d understand this as a silky passing midfielder who could dictate the pace of the game and he`d be worth loads

Remember him going to Italy where his game was perhaps more appreciated at the time, a precursor to Demetrio Albertini as the metronome of the Milan side

all the best Ray

He must be in a bad way. The way they were talking about him before the Palace/Liverpool game on Sky, I would've thought he'd died, talking of him in the past tense.

Younger than me, banged his head during the attack, hope he makes a full recovery
Why should a man go to work, if he has the health and strength to stay in bed?
