Italian side Fiorentina confirmed this morning that their club captain Davide Astori died in his sleep overnight. Fiorentina stayed overnight in Udine in preparation for today's match against Udinese. Astori was found in his hotel room this morning after he never showed for breakfast.

He was one of my favourite Italian defenders currently playing and I am extremely saddened by the news.

RIP Davide Astori. You'll be missed.

An autopsy was completed the other day and he died because his heart slowed whilst he was asleep until it finally stopped.

Yesterday afternoon Fiorentina said a final goodbye to Davide Astori in their home match against Benevento. The match finished 1-0 to Fiorentina.

I don't know whether you guys believe in fate but i believe it played a part in yesterday's match. Astori's unfortunate replacement in the centre of defence was Vitor Hugo. His number is 31 which is the same age as Astori and the reversal of Astori's number 13. Vitor Hugo scored the only goal of the game in the 25th minute. The goal went in at 13:00 Italian time. He celebrated by holding up a t-shirt with Astori on it and then saluted it.
