Lay off Brunty
#1
I always thought Ray Wilkins was a bit of a tosser, now I know he is. Just another example of the old boys club. Who the hell is he to criticise Chris brunt for having a go at pardew in the dressing room!!! Someone needed to say something and good on Brunty for doing it.
If you get chance to see his comments on Ssn then I'd be interested to see any others out there agree with him that brunt was out of order in questioning pardew's tactics.

Torn here.
I don't like Wilkins either, but I can see his point that it undermines the authority of the manager. AP may deserve that but I presume that in most workplaces, having a go at the boss in front of his staff wouldn't be acceptable.

I'm not criticising Brunty at all as he was was wearing heart on sleeve and must've been full of adreneline.
And it shows he bloody well cares!  Thumb up

I suppose it all depends the context in which Brunty made his comments to Pardew. If it was an open discussion in the dressing room then for me thats fine, if it was just an outburst then he is probably stepping over the line with the manager. You are right these things need to be aired in a dressing room that must be so low on confidence anyway, not sure it needed to be made public though.

I think Brunt completely in the right here, regardless of whether Wilkins or Pardew like it or not.

Playing the two in central midfield on several occasions against teams fielding a extra man in there is downright stupid. Southampton made us look daft when we used a 4-4-2 two games on the trot and Pardew STILL picked that system against Huddersfield. Not to mention 4-4-2 is such an antiquated formation in football now, yet no surprise it's being employed by Pardew. Doesn't have a plan b in his locker.

The reporter from the Express and Star is the guy who broke the news so it would be interesting to find out who leaked the info to the press. No doubt under different circumstances this kind of a bust up would be kept under wraps, but fair play to the reporter for sticking his neck out and publishing the story despite obviously taking a big risk career wise to do so. Likely his source will be keeping schtum from now on!

Can't fault Brunt at all though. I think there would be a fair few in the ground who'd have given the same bollocking to the team given the chance after the game .The bloke would probably bleed blue and white stripes if you cut him, clearly one of a dying breed of player who is playing FOR the club and not just themselves and out for cash.

All this even after the coining incident at Reading and coming in for stick from quite a few fans at times in his career.

Top bloke in my book and a top player as well. His assist record doesn't lie. One of the modern greats of our club imo  Thumb up

If somebody cares so much about the club and the direction it's going in. He cares so much that he bollocks the manager in front of his team mates. You have to make something positive out of it.
Pardew should make him the captain.

Whether it's an outburst or not what Brunty did was 100% needed.

The manager clearly wasn't saying what needed to be said, and the "captain" obviously isn't stepping up either.

As one of the longest serving players at the club he stood up and dealt a few home truths which everyone needed to hear - will it help? Probably not, but it was needed nonetheless.

I'm 70% with Brunt on this one because Alan Pardew deserved a rollicking for his inept, naive tactics which he seemingly won't change from.

However, the other 30% that I'm not is because of the way he seemingly did it. It's ok doing it during a heated discussion/debate but to confront Alan Pardew, his manager, in front of the other players and members of the coaching staff in the way that he seemingly did is undermining Alan Pardew's authority and that isn't good whichever way you spin it. Whatever you think of Alan Pardew and his recent massive blunders, he is Brunt's boss and there is a proper way of going about getting your point across. Confrontation in front of other people is not it.

Josh I have to disagree there, in order to undermine AP's authority suggests that AP actually had some authority in the first place ..... casein point .... remember Barcelona ...... what authority there
