Is any body else remotely intrigued, bemused, even slightly miffed that Darren Fletcher has left us? Not only has he left us but he's gone to Stoke? Why? It's hardly a step up is it? I for one am really a bit taken aback. He was our captain, apparently a very inspirational motivator and a decent footballer. I can only assume he wanted to hook up with another ex Man U man in Sparky but this one has got me scratching my head. Thoughts on this anyone seeing as absolutely sod all else is happening transfer wise as usual. The ghost of albion past strikes again or are we waiting till this world cup Q is out the way?

He knew we were going to be improving our squad with better younger players to push on for the top six so his game time would be limited. Go to a smaller club fighting relegation guaranteed game time, keep them up, instant adulation.
Yeah right .........

Fletcher became a liability, he got slower and slower, probably because of his immense run of games BUT he gave the ball away for fun and is very lightweight. Yes Stoke pay more than us and offered a 2 yr contract with an option of a third.
Stoke have some big earners but they still finished below us.
Fletcher is no loss

I heard that the Stoke offer was matched by West Brom. I can only assume we would not give him the two years and maybe no guarantee on being picked ahead of others.
If wasn't purely money - strangely enough!

In his interview, he said he went for a fresh challenge. Although it's usually money related, I guess this could be true as he helped keep us up and then consolidate us.
Although far more likely to be £££££ or maybe moving closer to home, if he's still living Manchester way.
Stoke have always been willing to splash the cash, you don't sign like the likes of Shaquiri and Bojan playing chump change.

Albion offered a 1 yr deal with an option of another year in the clubs favour, but stoke offered 2 years plus an extra year if he wants to continue (pretty sure that's what I read) Its definitely about the money but as I say, he's no great loss.
