THE MATCH - SATURDAY 27TH AUGUST 2016 at 3PM BST
V
Finally we get to play a 3pm Saturday afternoon kick off!!! After a couple of disappointing results this is a game where we absolutely need to get back on track!! At this stage I am sure we would take a win no matter how it comes about but a win is what we should be pushing for.
Brentford are one of those London teams that have ambitions to tap into the lucrative football market in the capital but seem to have stalled in that quest. They were fan owned for a while but eventually sold to lifelong fan Matthew Benham, who made his fortune from city trading and online betting sites. He is also majority owner of the 2014-15 Danish champions, FC Midtjylland. Benham has sunk 90m quid into Brentford and for a while it looked to be paying off as they won fromotion from the pub league and in their first season back in the Championship in 2014-15 they managed to finish 5th before losing to Boro in the playoffs. Bizarrely though at the end of that season they parted company with Mark Warburton, the manager who had guided them to much of their success. This seemed to be due to a difference of opinion as to how players were assessed and bought, with Benham favoring the "Moneyball" statistical type recruitment over Warburtons traditional views. Benham has fully embraced the statistical analysis method but you wonder if their success was more to do with Warburton than anything else!!! Since he left, the club have struggled to reach the heights of that 5th place, going through 3 managers in the process.
We have played Brentford 34 previous times with a record of W13 D12 L9, and our record at their gaff is an even W6 D6 L5, but our last 5 visits have seen is win 4 and draw 1, so its been a good ground for us recently. Last season saw us win 2-1 there with Nuhiu and Joao getting the goals, with Joao's coming in injury time when we had been reduced to 10 men forllowing the sending off of Imre's favorite player Helan!! Here is the video of that win:
THE LAST MATCH
Awful. No other way to describe that result in the end. We created a few chances in the first half and if Forestieri could have taken one of his I am sure we would have gone on from there to win the game, but we didn't and as the game wore on we crested less and less. Its is what it is now, lets forget about it and lets move forward starting with this game!!
WHO'S IN AND WHO'S OUT
There has been a lot of talk about where we need to make changes. Does Hutch need to move back to CM with Sasso coming in? Who should play LB, Hunt has not been good but is Palmer any better? Who should be our midfield 3 in front of Hutch/Jones? Who should play up front? I expect CC to make a few changes although we do need to get a settled side as well if we are going to challenge. Thankfully we have had a full week off to work on fitness and formations and I hope CC has made very good use of this time. Here is my team:
Westwood
Palmer Lees Hutchinson Pudil
Jones
Bannan Abdi Lee
Forestieri
Fletcher
Will he start with two strikers up front or will he essentially pack the midfield?? Will it be Fletcher, Hooper, Joao or Nuhiu up top in the lone role? Will Buckley come in after a decent outing in the League Cup?? What do you think we will look like when the team is announced??
