Tuesday sees town first home league game of 2016 and their first proper midweek game of 2016, ahead of what is a rather busy schedule thanks to nakhi wells' injury time leveller against reading on saturday. although it is probably fair to say that we deserved to win it on the face of things, although it did seem that in the last 10/15 minutes our players had taken a plunge mentally thanks to mr referee and the fitness seemed to eek out. it went from gegenpressing to gegengone, but we have another chance to get into the fourth round for sure when we play them, is it next week?
anyways onto tuesdays game. town welcome charlton (appears to the usual for January), a club that since dominating league one where both clubs got promoted, seems to be on a downward spiral. since they have got promoted they have sacked chris powell, much to the dismay of some of their fans and have gone through a plethora of foreign managers whilst signing a bunch of foreign players that have largely flattered to deceive, although the same could really be said of town in terms of managers that have been in and out of the door since our promotion.
Their fans seem to be really upset with how their own Roland Duchatelet is running the club and have already organised protests against the owner, but recently a former addicks director approached the owner on the behalf of third party but to no avail.
in terms of the team on the pitch, their form has been what could only be described as woeful. they have not won a game since back in november and amongst those results include a 4-0 thrashing by Burnley, 3-0 loss at home to Ipswich, a 3-2 loss to Brighton, a game that they were leading for a long while and of course most recently a 2-1 defeat to lowly Colchester United in the FA Cup. Their form sees them lingering second bottom in the league with only disaster club Bolton 3 points below them, it is worth mentioning that they are only 2 points away from safety, so a decent turn of form should see them to safety but there is still a long way to go in the season, so anything could happen.
In terms of the Charlton team, they have a highly rated attacker in the form of Ademola Lookman, he has been watched by the likes of Arsenal and is probably one of their only bright spots so far this season. Most of their goals have come from Reza, i refuse to put his surname here, it's too long. he is their leading goalscorer with 4 in all competitions. whilst Lookman, Johnnie Jackson and Simon Makienok lead the way in league goals on 3 each, compare that to town and in just league games Nahki has 8, Huws 5, bunn and Lolley on 3, and in all fairness the guys should have way more with the chances we create.
The Charlton side of past has usually had some decent youngsters amongst their ranks so town will have to alert to that, the off field situation has probably been a catalyst to their poor form and charlton are rumoured to be re-naming Jose Riga as their manager ahead of tuesdays game, so new manager syndrome may also kick in.
Team news.
Town saw tommy smith limp off the field on saturday, so one would presume that he will be doubtful for tuesdays game. Martin Cranie is an obvious replacement, but Wagner put Kyle Dempsey on instead and he did well with the attacking side of the game and with us being at home, he may well start in the full back position. it is worth noting that he started there for the development side last monday, so it may be one of those theories that wagner gets, it wouldnt be the first as he turned striker Erik Durum into a fullback at Dortmund and the german was part of the world cup squad in Brazil in that position, so I would be inclined to roll with it for now. Emyr Huws may be back in contention after he missed Saturdays game through illness. other than that the only notable absentee is Dean Whitehead who will probably be back training back end of this month. Jed Steer will also come back into contention after missing the cup tie due to his loan restrictions
As for Charlton, they will possibly be without Jordan Cousins after he limped off against Colchester, but they should be able to welcome back Johnnie Jackson, they will also likely make numerous changes to the side that lost at the weekend, so it is hard to work out what they will line up like, it also appears that Lookman will also be out injured along with Alou Diarra and Patrick Bauer (quick check, dont think he is related to Jack)

with a bench of; Murphy, Cranie, Husband, Lolley, Miller, Billing, Holmes
i can see Lolley getting rotated out, as seems to be the done thing for midweek games so far under Wagner, Lolley's fitness is still a little behind the others and it can be seen when he sometimes or often doesnt track back to help his fullback, unlike Scannell, but he too was once the same. I dont think there will be much different unless we sign someone between now and kick off and they are registered in time.
going to predict a 2-0 home win, because we dont appear clinical enough to take enough of our chances
Played for both.
going to put a few quick ones in here so that we all have a chance to name some
Pawel Abbott- was a decent striker for town apart from that pass... its a shame he fell out with Jacko like he did because there after we became laboured with an old striker, a legend and a couple of wingers who tried to play up top for us. he is now playing in poland with varying degrees of success on the goals front. scored 15 in 31 the other year then nothing of note.
Simon Church- played on loan for both clubs, but lets leave it at that shall we?
Chris Powell- yes he didnt play for us, but he managed both sides and had more success at Charlton than here, and is still highly thought of down at the Valley.
now over to you lot hiding out there amongst the 1's and 0's of everyday life!
