Who was the manager when he was let go?

Always tough to see where the talent will blossom as much as to know who will fit when they are recruited from abroad... our current plight

Plus playing for Oxford United is very different to being capable of playing in the Premier League - partly evident by the fact that it is Newcastle and Hull looking at him rather than Everton or similar positioned club.

I hear what you are saying... Thumb up but I am 100% convinced that this kid will make the big time. We have a good academy and our 'professionals' that work there should be able to identify potential like Roofe.
He should only be on loan at Oxford.

This is like chucking away £m's...... Angry

But he scored two today against premier opposition in Swansea today.
First goal cut in off the left , beat two defenders, curled it in with his right foot,
Second outpaced last defender scored a one on one,
How we could have done to score two against Swansea the other Week !!!  Doh

Yeh, I think that all our academy staff have a hidden agenda and actually give all of the better prospects away, and keep all the dross. It's in everybody's best interest to do that  Huh

OF COURSE there will be those who are let go that come good, but most probably won't ; let's not start a witch hunt because one,  two or even three of these kids are doing well after their release?!  Whistle

Before we all go nuts about Roofe he was hotly tipped to be a star about 4 years ago but went out on loan several times and failed to live up to the hype.
Having a great time at the moment and good luck to the lad but long way before should be critical. When he is banging the goals in at Championship or higher THEN might be the time to think he is one that got away eh ?

Fair enough.
We'll come back to this when Oxford sell him to a Prem club.

You think you made a mistake, we let Jamie Vardy go from our academy because he was too small!!! Even worse than that was when we got Eric Cantona on trial but it was during the winter and the team were unable to train outdoors or on grass and our then manager Trevor Francis decided to let him go as he "hadn't seen him play on grass" so couldn't decide whether to take him or not!!! He left us, went to L**ds, then to MU and the rest is history!!!!!

There must be 100s of stories like this from down the years!!

Sherjill Macdonald anyone ?
Scored loads of goals for Hereford then disappeared like a stone.
15 goals in league 2 isn't bad but come on !
As I say good luck to the lad and I hope he carries on but didn't we go down this route with Chris Wood when he was banging them in for Leicester ?

St Charles Owl,
Ouch that one hurts ! Pretty sure we rejected Ruud Gullit because he wasn't tall enough as a youth ! And don't even mention a certain Steve Bull...
Doh
