THE MATCH - SATURDAY 2ND JANUARY 2016 3PM KO
v ![[Image: 150px-Sheffield_Wednesday.svg.png]](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/a/a5/Sheffield_Wednesday.svg/150px-Sheffield_Wednesday.svg.png)
So far the festive period has brought us two wins at home and an away defeat against the league leaders. This fixture gives us a great opportunity to get some points away from S6, something we will need to do if we are to challenge for the playoffs. Fulham have recently fired their manager and installed SG as interim head coach but then last week they appointed the new guy, so I assume SG is out of the picture and the new guy will be in charge for this game. We have been in this position playing a team with a new manager a few times this season, lets hope the bump either doesn't arrive for them in this one. This game is definitely winnable and looking at our relative form and league position it is a game we should be expecting to win.
This will be our 70th meeting with Fulham and our record is pretty even at W29 D15 L25. Our record against them at their smoggy ground is not so good W8 D5 L20, although we have only lost one of the last 4!! Last season saw us put in one of our worst performances of the season, losing 4-0 with hardly a whimper from us, time for us to put that one right if only for the superb travelling fans we will once again have down in the Sarf!!
LINKS BETWEEN THE CLUBS
On their management team they have 2 connections to us, one is obviously SG and the other is Mark Pembridge, who is one of their first team coaches. Both teams have been managed by Vic Buckingham and our ex-player Ian Branfoot also managed them. No players come to mind who played for both teams but if anyone knows of any please post them.
THE LAST MATCH
The time it takes for me to type this sentence is about the time it took Boro to score what turned out to be the winning goal!!!! It was going to be difficult enough, but to start like this made it a very uphill battle to win. We struggled for the first 20-30 mins but gradually got a foot hold in the game and really were the better team in the second half but even with FF playing well we were unable to find a goal!! Disappointing, if not unexpected, and for me that shows how both our expectations and our overall state has improved this season!!
OUR TEAM
There has been some criticism of the squad rotation that CC has used this season, but I am not sure its justified for the Boro game. This was our second game in 2 days, I think that merits some changes, but of course we could argue all day which changes should have been made. Obviously we would like to see our best players play every minute of every game but it just doesn't happen like that now. Having said that barring injuries and suspensions, the players should be sufficiently rested for this one so I expect to see us start with our best 11, question is what is our current best 11?? Not sure who is still injured, is Westwood still out? What about Turner, or Joao? Is anyone else close to a return such as Lopez or Matias?? Also did I read somewhere that Bannan is suspended??
