Saido Berahino wasting his career, says Albion legend Brown
#1
This is Bomber as quoted in an interview on BBC WM.

Very dissapointing saga with Berahino and you really do wonder what our season would look like now if either...

A) We took the deal Spurs offered and brought in another striker

or

B) Saido was more mature and didn't let Spurs unsettle him.

We're still in limbo despite the situation being handled pretty well in my opinion.

Thoughts?

It's difficult. I mean after everything we've done for him by looking after him and his family in the country etc... It hurts when someone repays you like how he has done with us. I really wished he would have become a legend at the club after being here for so many years and what a success story that would have been, coming through the academy and so on. But I think his times up now, too much has gone on and I think we were right not to let him go for the stupid deal Spurs wanted (bigger clubs thinking they rule the roost) but he needs to be on his way in January. Take the money and run.

'Greedo' Berahino hasn't got a brain of his own and is being very badly advised.

Personally, my bet is that he will become a permanent bench warmer somewhere who will eventually drift to the lower divisions of football and quickly forgotten.

Shame really but we've seen it happen to many players over the years who get too big for their boots, consider themselves too big for the club, move on but their career nosedives. Bryan Robson was an exception but think back to Odemwhinger, Koumas, Curtis Davies etc etc.

Stones of Everton handled it the right way using his brain and is performing well for the Toffees and if he does move, the move will be with honour that Berahino so lacks. His father must be turning over in his grave.

Now the dust has settled on this subject. Could this have been a major gamble by JP that has blown up in his face?

We all expected Berahino to carry on playing and scoring. This hasn't happened.

Also, Garlick still stating that Saido is NOT in Albion's plans for selling.

January could be interesting as Garlick also said that TP needs to sell before he can buy.

I've taken the press releases we've given recently about selling before buying as an obvious nudge to clubs that we're now willing to move Bez on, take our money and run. But stating Saido is not for sale at the same time is just trying to keep his transfer value inflated imo.

Agreed.

My point was, though, that JP dug his heels in and didn't want to sell as he saw Saido (rightly) as a top player and will score goals for us up to at least Jan.

This just hasn't happened. We would be in the exact same position as we are now, i.e. one main striker with Lambert as back-up (I'm not gonna count Vic as it's pointless).
We can't risk this for the second half of  the season so I think, based on what we've seen of Saido this year, we need to move him on and get one of our many targets (?) in.

6 points above the drop with over half a season to go is not a very safe place to be, especially as 2 teams below us have hit some good form.

I for one was very very pleased - proud even - when JP stood firm on this in the summer ; IMO it was the principle of the thing that was so important.
It would've been nice for SB (Sulky Boy Dodgy) to have kept scoring for us till Jan - obviously goals mean points, and would've also kept his price tag high - but no matter. Time to move  on,  even maybe at a slightly  lower price.

Just a shame that SB will now be thought of with negativity at WBA when he could've been an all time great, with the talent that he obviously has

Maybe the magic of Christmas will do its thing again, the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future will visit SB, he will learn the meaning of loyality, his love of Albion will be reignited, he will sign a new contract help Albion lift the FA cup and England the world cup whilst wearing his lucky Albion pants ..........

nurse nurse ..... nurse ...... where's my medication I am having delusions again.

My concern here is the fact that clearly JP does not want to sell Sulko to the Spurs and, in view of what happened can anyone really blame him.

However, who else might be interested given:-

1) His lack of game time.
2) His obvious lack of loyalty.

I have a horrible feeling that we might now be stuck with him and that cannot be good for the dressing room morale.

Is he presently our highest paid player?
Some days I'm top dog, most days I'm just the lamp post.

I'm not 100% about players salaries but I wouldn't be surprised if he was the highest paid at the club.

I still reckon someone will take a punt on him in January.
