Deano could never have played under himself

Is it managers, or just other people? Or me?

Who'd have thought Drew Talbot would be the one player identified to be changed after the Oldham defeat?

Who'd have thought Hird was a better bet at right back?

Who'd have been convinced Hird was even ahead of Herd or O'Neil in the right back race?

Who'd have thought a Rotherham reserve would be in front of Hird and Raglan at centre back?

Who'd have thought Raglan wouldn't have established himself as a regular by now?

Who'd have expected O'Neil so rarely to have even been in contention beyond the sitting areas?

Who'd have thought Harrison would have been assigned to the freezer? The Football League paper interviewed him about his opinion of Jamie Cureton, so he's still alive in there.

Who'd have known Ariyibi turned into a pumpkin if asked to play more than 20 minutes?

Who, having watched Dean Saunders play, would have thought he could be so lacking in imagination managerially? I think he would have been really frustrated to play under himself!

The best way to keep a clean sheet is to keep the ball not put 10 men behind it .That's why Cooks team had so many.
I have to say though the last two defeats have been on treacherous surfaces so ready made excuses for Deano.
The next two games are important for him in my opinion.Depending on results they could make or break our season .
He cut a lonely figure in the Casa last night .

It just seems obvious to me that the way forward for the defence is to go Talbot, Evatt, Raglan and Jones ...... that you are unlikely to stop goals by picking slower players at the back and you are unlikely to find players struggling for pace finding the time to play considered passes out of defence.

It seems equally obvious, though loads of football managers do it, that giving players no obvious route back to the team, or even to the bench, will actually create the useless squad member you thought you might have. It's a self-proving philosophy.

It seems fairly certain our forwards will come up against defenders terrified of pace. Pace and some skill can cause chaos but Saunders doesn't seem to pick games against known slowish defences to select our quickest players.

And yes Pooch, of course you are right. If you've got the ball it's pretty damned difficult for the opposition to attack.

Deano needs to organise his team to get the ball how and where he would have liked to receive it up front. He was a very dangerous forward. If he wouldn't have been happy with the way things are going then that's a good measure of how the team's playing.

Anyone else starting to think I can't be bothered and starting to not care anymore?

It happens Matt.

During Fleetwood's accelerating plunge they played Wood at Centre Back. Now we are heading in the same direction. We did need defensive cover. We didn't need a ponderous centre back. I wonder why even Rotherham don't want him. Surely that's a clue. What is particularly bizarre to me is that he is exactly the type of player Deano would have taken to the cleaners as a player.

Same unimaginative team turned out last night. Got outplayed.

At a wiser club Saturday would be the last chance saloon for Deano ..... and Swindon beat Walsall last night. I don't expect howling success. This IS Chesterfield, but I do hope for some way forward, promise of better, a way of playing developing, some straw to clutch at. And I'm afraid nothing in Deano's record, or his time with us, suggests anything like that. Even his overall success rate as a manager is skewed by time spent taking Wrexham and Doncaster clear at the top of their divisions ..... before plunging them to obscurity .... even Wolves experienced that same death spiral we've also entered from which he seems perennially unable to pull out.

We have time to avoid relegation if we act now. If we wait till Christmas it won't be Santa and Jingle Bells for us, it'll be The Black Angel's Death Song (Velvet Underground).

Listening to DA's interview I don't think Saunders will be sacked if we get relegated.

DS has a 37% win ratio at the moment .Saturday is crucial for our season but the unfortunate thing is I think we will go and win this one

I can't see us beating Swindon.

Why play break up the Evatt/Raglan partnership?

Why play Hird at RB? when he is a CB

Why bring in a player from Rotherham who struggled at Fleetwood? and has anyone noticed there starting to get wins under there belt now.

If DS wants to experiment then he should do it in reserve games or training not in matches where points are at stake. We've let 8 goals in the last 3 games and he says oh it should iron itself out, it's not good enough. At least when we were winning away and picking up points on the road it made up for the results at home, we had 8 shots last night and not one was on xxxx target!!

I don't think Deano thinks he's experimenting Matt. He thinks that is his best eleven. You're right that Fleetwood do seem to be developing a better record without Wood, though some people might put that down to a change in management.

Unfortunately for Pooch's statistics most of Mr Saunders' wins have come in longish successful runs at Wrexham and Donnie ....... which were then followed by both those teams falling apart. If you get losing-run Saunders you're nowhere near a 37% win ratio. BUT if Saunders managed to maintain his win ratio this season THAT would indeed save us - 10 more wins. The real truth is though even at 37% Mr Saunders is only likely to give a team a survival season. If you're only going to get around 17 wins then you need almost 20 draws to reach the play-offs - 9 defeats over the season ...... Deano's perfectly designed to get us either nowhere, or down.

Doncaster fans and Wolves both said that they played poor football.
