QotS are in decent form and this will be an important top-of-the-table clash. I'm looking forward to these challenges nowadays rather than fearing them.

Zelalem keeps his place ahead of Law, Holt and McKay feature with Oduwa on the bench.

Will QotS park the bus, leave the handbrake off or reverse it right up Sleverin' Bilic's hole? (Yeah, been watching MotD. My bad.)

RANGERS: Foderingham, Tavernier, Kiernan, Wilson, Wallace, Halliday, Holt, Zelalem, McKay, Miller, Waghorn.

SUBS: Kelly, Ball, Law, Shiels, Aird, Hardie, Oduwa.

Looks like QotS are using the same tactics against us as last year - sitting in deep to soak up our attacks and getting forward in numbers on the break. They're dangerous but our defence seems a bit more capable of dealing with those breaks this season. We've got the lead but there's not a lot of dangerous intent about us and we've been really sloppy with our passing at times. We also have our first real test of the squad after losing Wallace to injury. Replacing him with a central defender doesn't fill me with confidence but I suppose that's the only option we had from the bench.

Half-time QotS 0-1 Rangers

... on BT Sport they said Lee Wallace is off as a precaution and it is a problem with his knee; they originally thought it was a calf strain.

Ref has lost it. First a stamp on Zelalem that he missed, then red card for Lyle for a headbutt - we were lucky there as if it was a red Kiernan should probably have had one too. Then a token yellow show to Tavernier for our next foul to try to 'even things up' even though it was a clear dive by the Queen's player. Then a penalty and yellow card that should have been a red - if a player going for a tap in to an empty net a couple of yards out isn't a clear scoring opportunity I don't know what is.

Actually I think the stamp was spotted and a yellow given afterwards, so he got something sort of right.

5-1 win in the end. We gave away a really poor goal at 5-0 up against 10 men. All 4 of our defenders switched off, simple ball over the top and Smith did well to hold off Kiernan to slot home. Foderingham could have come off his line to close him down but I think Kiernan was so close to the player that his choice to stay on his line to give the defender a chance to challenge was probably fair enough.

Before the start of the season I'd have said our biggest rivals in this league would be Hibs, St. Mirren and Queen of the South. We've now played - and beaten - all of them within our opening 4 games, which is great news (even if St. Mirren have had a very poor start). If the team hadn't gelled quickly we could have been in a world of trouble at this point, but our success so far is a credit to the hours Warburton puts in and the determination of the players.
