What's the plan?
#1
Simple question, what's the plan, where do we go from here and can we afford not to invest?

So first up, what's the plan. Well the plan was to stick within the FFP rules, buy young hungry players and sell on for a profit. Invest in the academy and bring players through the system
Ok so we seem to be the only club that's stuck by FFP so far, every other club has either broken the rules or are in the process of doing so.
Buy young and sell for a profit. Connor Cody being the latest example(although sold too cheap IMO) that's worked a few times for us in the past but finding these hidden gems is getting harder and harder.
So onto the last Academy, Alex Smithies....that's it. The academy is failing, it's not producing. They win nearly every game and have done for the past 3 years, the same with the "Development" squad but we see precious little of these players coming through.
Can we afford to go on like this and not invest in quality players? In my opinion No! If Dean doesn't loosen the purse strings a little then relegation could end up losing him a lot more money than he is now. Gate revenue will drop, TV revenue will drop like a stone and the knock on impact will be less commercial income, less people through the gates equals less taken through things like club shops and Canalside. He needs to give Powell some money to strengthen the 1st team, as a starting XI at the weekend we were only really missing Vaughan and Scannell and we were struggling to replace them(Smith and Miller and a reshuffle of formation) the fact we have  Adam Hammill coming on trying to save the day despite the manager basically saying his days are numbered speaks volumes about our weak squad.

So come on Dean give Powell half a chance to improve this team and give him some cash to work with.

Huddersfield Town live up to the tag of the yorkshire club. Short arms deep pockets. We will stick with the academy just in hope it churns out a top quality player, but it seems that its a one in ten year occasion

Well I think the Academy plan has to come in now. We don't need to buy players. We have a full team waiting to take the stage. What was the point of signing Whitehead, Davidson and Crainie when we could easily have drafted in Billing, Booty and Wilkinson?
What's the point of giving the lads a meagre ten minute go from the bench and then wondering why they haven't performed? League Cup matches and the like should be the platform for these lads to come on as a team.

Trouble is the management of Town don't think the likes of Billing,Booty and Wilkinson are good enough and to back that up how many of these youngsters have gone out on loan to a decent standard and made a good impression?

Dean Hoyle's first problem is he doesn't seem very good at choosing managers. They are all (those I can recall) dour types lacking in enthusiasm and seemingly little ability to actually galvanise the team into a cohesive unit. Even moderately successful Lee Clarke sounded like he needed to talk to the Samaritans after a WIN.

Consider how enthusiastic pundits like Chris Kamara are about their work - now he's motivating. Powell is more like a wet blanket- how is that supposed to inspire confidence in a team to get out there and WIN?

How can Powell not have noticed he's got a crap defence? If the academy players are worth keeping they need to be given a proper chance - can they really do any worse than the existing defenders? - if not, then sell them, loan them out or get them off the books. What is needed from the manager is visible passion, organisation, good team selection, a decent game plan that can be varied if things don't go to well. Dean Hoyle's second problem is that with the team running around like headless chickens, it is hardly going to encourage him to invest in new players when the manager is the one who hasn't done well with what he has got. Powell's new recruits don't seem to help either in building Hoyle's confidence.

Yes, Town DO need goalscorers, but the defence seems to be the weakest link and solid defenders are comparatively cheap compared to proven goalscorers. So he needs to get a couple of young, quick and effective defenders.

Powell appears to be yet another manager without much idea and until he is replaced, I doubt things will improve or the purse strings loosened to any great extent. Sadly, ex-footballers often seem to make pretty lousy managers, many treating it as an opportunity to keep on raking the cash in. There is a constant manager merry-go-round where failures go to a new club and fail again.

I wrote a list of managers that are out of work and its safe to say that there are a lot of managers that are dour and boring.

Billy davies (a bit of a knob), alex mcleish (redesigned his style in belgium?), paul lambert (dull), big sam (quite boring), nigel clough (needs winding up), paulo di canio (needs winding down)

Obviously there would be other names branded around but the list is only to show that most of the names will be uninspiring in their media personality, but some come with having success during their career. I dont think you can read into how they talk to the media at conferences, they will talk differently behind closed doors.

I dont think its fair to say powell is uninspiring to the players as we dont hear how he is with them, we only get the powell that talks to the media.

The plan is to hope and pray we stay up, the plan is for Deano to moan about the fans getting pissed off and threatening to take his bat and ball home, the plan is for Cosy to tell us all the team need to get it going otherwise we will be in a dogfight.

Matacaster is spot on, not one motivating manager set on, I said it about Bobbins and I said it about Cosy Powell (you don't want to know what I said about the Yid) I AM UNINSPIRED DEANO

Powell inspired Scannell into becoming a world beater from a bit part player.
We're two games in and we're over reacting again. We always start poorly. We always struggle to see off lower league opposition in the League Cup.
Nowt to worry about. We'll be the best team in the world again on Saturday.

It does have a similar pattern each season, although we did start well under Grayson in our 1st season back in the Championship. There is something about the club though and negativity has become the 'norm'.

We had plenty of ambition to get into this division and spent a lot of money to make it happen. However, now we are in the Championship, we don't seem to have any further ambition. I get that Deano has put a lot of money into the club but he's also not had a bad return from the player sales either. We all know that owners of football clubs don't get into it to make a shed load of money - they want the glory!

I don't want this to be a post about Dean Hoyle but does he have the same passion and ambition as when he took over? I don't think he has and maybe he is happy with scraping relegation every season or flirting with a mid table finish? This lack of ambition though I think shows in the lack of quality on the pitch and is keeping fans away. We wont get any more fans back through the door without more ambition and investment. This can only come from Dean Hoyle, or he needs to sell up.

Powell is probably doing what he can with what he's got and I'm almost coming around to the fact that this is the best we can hope for. We might put in the odd great performance once in a while, pick up some draws and just about stay in this division. I know we are not the biggest club in the Championship but with the right investment and fans through the doors then there is no reason why we cant be pushing for that top 6. We could easily get 16,000 - 17,000 home fans every home game with a good team. Hell, we had more bloody fans in League 1 and that speaks volumes about 'where we are'!

We are a millions miles away from where we should and could be. I understand that Hoyle's head is in the right place and wants the club to be self sufficient. But, is that at the expense of having a team we can be proud of and playing at the top level of at least the Championship? As is stands, we could easily be self sufficient but we will see ourselves in the lower leagues.
